1. യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാര് അവന്റെ എതിരെ വന്നു.

1. Jacob also left that place. While he was traveling, he saw God's angels.

2. യാക്കോബ് അവരെ കണ്ടപ്പോള്ഇതു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സേന എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു മഹനയീം എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു.

2. When he saw them, he said, 'This is God's camp!' So Jacob named that place Mahanaim.

3. അനന്തരം യാക്കോബ് എദോംനാടായ സേയീര്ദേശത്തു തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് തനിക്കു മുമ്പായി ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു.

3. Jacob's brother Esau was living in the area called Seir in the hill country of Edom. Jacob sent messengers to Esau.

4. അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്എന്റെ യജമാനനായ ഏശാവിനോടു ഇങ്ങനെ പറവിന് നിന്റെ അടിയാന് യാക്കോബ് ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നുഞാന് ലാബാന്റെ അടുക്കല് പരദേശിയായി പാര്ത്തു ഇന്നുവരെ അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.

4. He told them, 'Tell this to my master Esau: 'Your servant Jacob says, I have lived with Laban all these years.

5. എനിക്കു കാളയും കഴുതയും ആടും ദാസീദാസന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; നിനക്കു എന്നൊടു കൃപ തോന്നേണ്ടതിന്നാകുന്നു യജമാനനെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ആളയക്കുന്നതു.

5. I have many cattle, donkeys, flocks, and servants. Sir, I am sending you this message to ask you to accept us.''

6. ദൂതന്മാര് യാക്കോബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങി വന്നുഞങ്ങള് നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി വന്നു; അവന് നാനൂറു ആളുമായി നിന്നെ എതിരേല്പാന് വരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. The messengers came back to Jacob and said, 'We went to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you. He has 400 men with him.'

7. അപ്പോള് യാക്കോബ് ഏറ്റവും ഭ്രമിച്ചു ഭയവശനായി, തന്നോടു കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ജനത്തെയും ആടുകളെയും കന്നുകാലികളെയും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെയും രണ്ടു കൂട്ടമായി വിഭാഗിച്ചു.

7. Jacob was very frightened and worried. He divided the people who were with him and all the flocks, herds, and camels into two groups.

8. ഏശാവ് ഒരു കൂട്ടത്തിന്റെ നേരെ വന്നു അതിനെ നശിപ്പിച്ചാല് മറ്റേ കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോകാമല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Jacob thought, 'If Esau comes and destroys one group, the other group can run away and be saved.'

9. പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചതുഎന്റെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ ദൈവവും എന്റെ പിതാവായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ദൈവവുമായുള്ളോവേ, നിന്റെ ദേശത്തേക്കും നിന്റെ ചാര്ച്ചക്കാരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കും മടങ്ങിപ്പോക; ഞാന് നിനക്കു നന്മ ചെയ്യുമെന്നു എന്നൊടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത യഹോവേ,

9. Then Jacob said, 'God of my father Abraham! God of my father Isaac! Lord, you told me to come back to my country and to my family. You said that you would do good to me.

10. അടിയനോടു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സകലദയെക്കും സകലവിശ്വസ്തതെക്കും ഞാന് അപാത്രമത്രേ; ഒരു വടിയോടുകൂടെ മാത്രമല്ലോ ഞാന് ഈ യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നതു; ഇപ്പോഴോ ഞാന് രണ്ടു കൂട്ടമായി തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. You have been very kind to me. You did many good things for me. The first time I traveled across the Jordan River, I owned nothing�only my walking stick. But now I own enough things to have two full groups.

11. എന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു എന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ; പക്ഷേ അവന് വന്നു എന്നെയും മക്കളോടുകൂടെ തള്ളയെയും നശിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു.

11. I ask you to please save me from my brother Esau. I am afraid he will come and kill us all, even the mothers with the children.

12. നീയോഞാന് നിന്നോടു നന്മ ചെയ്യും; നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ പെരുപ്പംകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണിക്കൂടാത്ത കടല്കരയിലെ മണല്പോലെ ആക്കുമെന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ.

12. Lord, you said to me, 'I will be good to you. I will increase your family and make your children as many as the sands of the sea. There will be too many to count.''

13. അന്നു രാത്രി അവന് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു; തന്റെ പക്കല് ഉള്ളതില് തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്നു സമ്മാനമായിട്ടു

13. Jacob stayed in that place for the night. He prepared some things to give to Esau as a gift.

14. ഇരുനൂറു കോലാടിനെയും ഇരുപതു കോലാട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും ഇരുനൂറു ചെമ്മരിയാടിനെയും ഇരുപതു ചെമ്മരിയാട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും

14. He took 200 female goats and 20 male goats, 200 female sheep and 20 male sheep.

15. കറവുള്ള മുപ്പതു ഒട്ടകത്തെയും അവയുടെ കുട്ടികളെയും നാല്പതു പശുവിനെയും പത്തു കാളയെയും ഇരുപതു പെണ്കഴുതയെയും പത്തു കഴുതകൂട്ടിയെയും വേര്തിരിച്ചു.

15. He took 30 camels and their colts, 40 cows and 10 bulls, 20 female donkeys and 10 male donkeys.

16. തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരുടെ പക്കല് ഔരോ കൂട്ടത്തെപ്രത്യേകം പ്രത്യേകമായി ഏല്പിച്ചു, തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങള് എനിക്കു മുമ്പായി കടന്നുപോയി അതതു കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു മദ്ധ്യേ ഇടയിടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. He gave each flock of animals to his servants. Then he said to them, 'Separate each group of animals. Go ahead of me and keep some space between each herd.'

17. ഒന്നാമതു പോകുന്നവനോടു അവന് എന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവ് നിന്നെ കണ്ടുനീ ആരുടെ ആള്? എവിടെ പോകുന്നു? നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് പോകുന്ന ഇവ ആരുടെ വക എന്നിങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചാല്

17. Jacob gave them their orders. To the servant with the first group of animals he said, 'When Esau my brother comes to you and asks you, 'Whose animals are these? Where are you going? Whose servant are you?'

18. നിന്റെ അടിയാന് യാക്കോബിന്റെ വക ആകുന്നു; ഇതു യജമാനനായ ഏശാവിന്നു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സമ്മാനം; അതാ, അവനും പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു എന്നു നീ പറയേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

18. then you should answer, 'These animals belong to your servant Jacob. He sent them as a gift to you, my master Esau. And he also is coming behind us.''

19. രണ്ടാമത്തവനോടും മൂന്നാമത്തവനോടും കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടു പോകുന്ന എല്ലാവരോടുംനിങ്ങള് ഏശാവിനെ കാണുമ്പോള് ഇപ്രകാരം അവനോടുപറവിന് ;

19. Jacob also ordered the second servant, the third servant, and all the other servants to do the same thing. He said, 'You will say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.

20. അതാ, നിന്റെ അടിയാന് യാക്കോബ് പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു എന്നും പറവിന് എന്നു അവന് കല്പിച്ചു. എനിക്കു മുമ്പായിപോകുന്ന സമ്മാനംകൊണ്ടു അവനെ ശാന്തമാക്കീട്ടു പിന്നെ ഞാന് അവന്റെ മുഖം കണ്ടുകൊള്ളാം; പക്ഷേ അവന്നു എന്നോടു ദയ തോന്നുമായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. You will say, 'This is a gift to you, and your servant Jacob is behind us.'' Jacob thought, 'If I send these men ahead with gifts, maybe Esau will forgive me and accept me.'

21. അങ്ങനെ സമ്മാനം അവന്റെ മുമ്പായി പോയി; അവനോ അന്നു രാത്രി കൂട്ടത്തോടുകൂടെ പാര്ത്തു.

21. So Jacob sent the gifts to Esau, but he stayed that night in the camp.

22. രാത്രിയില് അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു. തന്റെ രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെയും രണ്ടു ദാസിമാരെയും പതിനൊന്നു പുത്രന്മാരയും കൂട്ടി യാബ്ബോക് കടവു കടന്നു.

22. During the night, Jacob got up and began moving his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven sons across the Jabbok River at the crossing.

23. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവരെ കൂട്ടി ആറ്റിന്നക്കരെ കടത്തി; തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അക്കരെ കടത്തിയശേഷം യാക്കോബ് തനിയേ ശേഷിച്ചു;

23. After he sent his family across the river, he sent across everything he had.

24. അപ്പോള് ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉഷസ്സാകുവോളം അവനോടു മല്ലു പിടിച്ചു.

24. Jacob was left alone, and a man came and wrestled with him. The man fought with him until the sun came up.

25. അവനെ ജയിക്കയില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവന് അവന്റെ തുടയുടെ തടം തൊട്ടു; ആകയാല് അവനോടു മല്ലുപിടിക്കയില് യാക്കോബിന്റെ തുടയുടെ തടം ഉളുക്കിപ്പോയി.

25. When the man saw that he could not defeat Jacob, he touched Jacob's leg and put it out of joint.

26. എന്നെ വിടുക; ഉഷസ്സു ഉദിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുനീ എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചല്ലാതെ ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

26. Then the man said to Jacob, 'Let me go. The sun is coming up.' But Jacob said, 'I will not let you go. You must bless me.'

27. നിന്റെ പേര് എന്തു എന്നു അവന് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയാക്കോബ് എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And the man said to him, 'What is your name?' And Jacob said, 'My name is Jacob.'

28. നീ ദൈവത്തോടും മനുഷ്യരോടും മല്ലുപിടിച്ചു ജയിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ പേര് ഇനി യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ല യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

28. Then the man said, 'Your name will not be Jacob. Your name will now be Israel. I give you this name because you have fought with God and with men, and you have won.'

29. യാക്കോബ് അവനോടുനിന്റെ പേര് എനിക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതരേണം എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുനീ എന്റെ പേര് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു, അവിടെവെച്ചു അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

29. Then Jacob asked him, 'Please tell me your name.' But the man said, 'Why do you ask my name?' Then the man blessed Jacob at that place.

30. ഞാന് ദൈവത്തെ മുഖാമുഖമായി കണ്ടിട്ടും എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വിന്നില്ല എന്നു യാക്കോബ് പറഞ്ഞു, ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു പെനീയേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

30. So Jacob named that place Peniel. He said, 'At this place, I saw God face to face, but my life was spared.'

31. അവന് പെനീയേല് കടന്നു പോകുമ്പോള് സൂര്യന് ഉദിച്ചു; എന്നാല് തുടയുടെ ഉളുകൂനിമിത്തം അവന് മുടന്തിനടന്നു.

31. Then the sun came up as Jacob left Peniel. He was limping because of his leg.

32. അവന് യാക്കോബിന്റെ തുടയുടെ തടത്തിലെ ഞരമ്പു തൊടുകകൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ഇന്നുവരെയും തുടയുടെ തടത്തിലെ ഞരമ്പു തിന്നാറില്ല.

32. So even today, the people of Israel don't eat the muscle that is on the hip joint, because this is the muscle where Jacob was hurt.
