1. ശൌല് മരിക്കയും ദാവീദ് അമാലേക്യരെ സംഹരിച്ചു മടങ്ങിവന്നു സിക്ളാഗില് രണ്ടു ദിവസം പാര്ക്കയും ചെയ്ത ശേഷം

1. After Saul died, David returned to Ziklag. He had won the battle over the Amalekites. He stayed in Ziklag for two days.

2. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം ഒരു ആള് വസ്ത്രം കീറിയും തലയില് പൂഴി വാരിയിട്ടുംകൊണ്ടു ശൌലിന്റെ പാളയത്തില്നിന്നു വന്നു, ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

2. On the third day a man arrived from Saul's camp. His clothes were torn. He had dust on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to show him respect.

3. ദാവീദ് അവനോടുനീ എവിടെ നിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞാന് യിസ്രായേല് പാളയത്തില്നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോരികയാകുന്നു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Where have you come from?' David asked him. He answered, 'I've escaped from Israel's camp.'

4. ദാവീദ് അവനോടുകാര്യം എന്തായി? പറക എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവന് ജനം പടയില് തോറ്റോടി; ജനത്തില് അനേകര് പട്ടുവീണു; ശൌലും അവന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനുംകൂടെ പട്ടുപോയി എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

4. 'What happened?' David asked. 'Tell me.' He said, 'Israel's men ran away from the battle. Many of them were killed. Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.'

5. വര്ത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരനോടു ദാവീദ്ശൌലും അവന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനും പട്ടുപോയതു നീ എങ്ങനെ അറിഞ്ഞു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു

5. David spoke to the young man who brought him the report. He asked him, 'How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?'

6. വര്ത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരന് പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് യദൃച്ഛയാ ഗില്ബോവപര്വ്വതത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നപ്പോള് ശൌല് തന്റെ കുന്തത്തിന്മേല് ചാരിനിലക്കുന്നതും തേരും കുതിരപ്പടയും അവനെ തുടര്ന്നടുക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു;

6. 'I just happened to be there on Mount Gilboa,' the young man said. 'Saul was there too. He was leaning on his spear. The enemy chariots and chariot drivers had almost caught up with him.

7. അവന് പിറകോട്ടു നോക്കി എന്നെ കണ്ടു വിളിച്ചുഅടിയന് ഇതാ എന്നു ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

7. Then he turned around and saw me. He called out to me. I said, 'What do you want me to do?'

8. നീ ആരെന്നു അവന് എന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞാന് ഒരു അമാലേക്യന് എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

8. 'He asked me, 'Who are you?' ' 'An Amalekite,' I answered.

9. അവന് എന്നോടുനീ അടുത്തുവന്നു എന്നെ കൊല്ലേണം; എന്റെ ജീവന് മുഴുവനും എന്നില് ഇരിക്കകൊണ്ടു എനിക്കു പരിഭ്രമം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. 'Then he said to me, 'Stand over me and kill me! I'm close to death, but I'm still alive.'

10. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് അടുത്തുചെന്നു അവനെ കൊന്നു; അവന്റെ വീഴ്ചയുടെ ശേഷം അവന് ജീവിക്കയില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ തലയിലെ കിരീടവും ഭുജത്തിലെ കടകവും ഞാന് എടുത്തു ഇവിടെ യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. 'So I stood over him and killed him. I did it because I knew that after he had lost the battle he would be killed anyway. So I took the crown that was on his head. I also took his armband. I've brought them here to you. You are my master.'

11. ഉടനെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം പറിച്ചുകീറി; കൂടെയുള്ളവരും അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ ചെയ്തു.

11. Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them. All of his men did the same thing.

12. അവര് ശൌലിനെയും അവന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനെയും യഹോവയുടെ ജനത്തെയും യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു അവര് വാളാല് വീണുപോയതുകൊണ്ടു വിലപിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു സന്ധ്യവരെ ഉപവസിച്ചു.

12. All of them were filled with sadness. They sobbed over the whole nation of Israel. They didn't eat anything until evening. That's because Saul and Jonathan and the Lord's army had been killed with swords.

13. ദാവീദ് വര്ത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുനീ എവിടുത്തുകാരന് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞാന് ഒരു അന്യജാതിക്കാരന്റെ മകന് , ഒരു അമാലേക്യന് എന്നു അവന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

13. David spoke to the young man who had brought him the report. He asked, 'Where are you from?' 'I'm the son of an outsider, an Amalekite,' he answered.

14. ദാവീദ് അവനോടുയഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനെ സംഹരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു കയ്യോങ്ങുവാന് നിനക്കു ഭയം തോന്നാഞ്ഞതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. David asked him, 'Why weren't you afraid to lift your hand to kill the Lord's anointed king?'

15. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ വിളിച്ചുനീ ചെന്നു അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Then David called for one of his men. He said, 'Go! Strike him down!' So he struck the man down, and the man died.

16. അവന് അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു. ദാവീദ് അവനോടുനിന്റെ രക്തം നിന്റെ തലമേല്; യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനെ ഞാന് കൊന്നു എന്നു നീ നിന്റെ വായ് കൊണ്ടു തന്നെ നിനക്കു വിരോധമായി സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. That's because David had said to him, 'Anything that happens to you will be your own fault. What your own mouth has spoken is a witness against you. You said, 'I killed the Lord's anointed king.' '

17. അനന്തരം ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനെയും അവന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനെയും കുറിച്ചു ഈ വിലാപഗീതം ചൊല്ലി--

17. David sang a song of sadness about Saul and his son Jonathan.

18. അവന് യെഹൂദാമക്കളെ ഈ ധനുര്ഗ്ഗീതം അഭ്യസിപ്പിപ്പാന് കല്പിച്ചു; അതു ശൂരന്മാരുടെ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ:-

18. He ordered that it be taught to the people of Judah. It is called The Song of the Bow. It is written down in the Book of Jashar. David sang,

19. യിസ്രായേലേ, നിന്റെ പ്രതാപമായവര് നിന്റെ ഗിരികളില് നിഹതന്മാരായി; വീരന്മാര് പട്ടുപോയതു എങ്ങനെ!

19. 'Israel, your glorious leaders lie dead on your hills. Your mighty men have fallen.

20. ഗത്തില് അതു പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കരുതേ; അസ്കലോന് വീഥികളില് ഘോഷിക്കരുതേ; ഫെലിസ്ത്യപുത്രിമാര് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതേ; അഗ്രചര്മ്മികളുടെ കന്യകമാര് ഉല്ലസിക്കരുതേ.

20. 'Don't announce it in Gath. Don't tell it in the streets of Ashkelon. If you do, the daughters of the Philistines will be glad. The daughters of men who haven't been circumcised will be joyful.

21. ഗില്ബോവപര്വ്വതങ്ങളേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ മേല് മഞ്ഞോ മഴയോ പെയ്യാതെയും വഴിപാടുനിലങ്ങള് ഇല്ലാതെയും പോകട്ടെ. അവിടെയല്ലോ വീരന്മാരുടെ പരിച എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞതു; ശൌലിന്റെ തൈലാഭിഷേകമില്ലാത്ത പരിച തന്നേ.

21. 'Mountains of Gilboa, may no dew or rain fall on you. May your fields not produce any offerings of grain. The shield of the mighty king lies polluted there. The shield of Saul lies there. It isn't rubbed with oil anymore.

22. നിഹതന്മാരുടെ രക്തവും വീരന്മാരുടെ മേദസ്സും വിട്ടു യോനാഥാന്റെ വില്ലു പിന്തിരിഞ്ഞില്ല; ശൌലിന്റെ വാള് വൃഥാ പോന്നതുമില്ല.

22. The bow of Jonathan didn't turn back. The sword of Saul didn't return without being satisfied. They spilled the blood of their enemies. They killed mighty men.

23. ശൌലും യോനാഥാനും ജീവകാലത്തു പ്രീതിയും വാത്സല്യവും പൂണ്ടിരുന്നു; മരണത്തിലും അവര് വേര്പിരിഞ്ഞില്ല. അവര് കഴുകനിലും വേഗവാന്മാര്. സിംഹത്തിലും വീര്യവാന്മാര്.

23. 'In life Saul and Jonathan were loved and gracious. In death they were not parted. They were faster than eagles. They were stronger than lions.

24. യിസ്രായേല്പുത്രിമാരേ, ശൌലിനെച്ചൊല്ലി കരവിന് അവന് നിങ്ങളെ ഭംഗിയായി രക്താംബരം ധരിപ്പിച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ വസ്ത്രത്തിന്മേല് പൊന്നാഭരണം അണിയിച്ചു.

24. 'Daughters of Israel, sob over Saul. He dressed you in the finest clothes. He decorated your clothes with ornaments of gold.

25. യുദ്ധമദ്ധ്യേ വീരന്മാര് പട്ടുപോയതെങ്ങിനെ! നിന്റെ ഗിരികളില് യോനാഥാന് നിഹതനായല്ലോ.

25. 'Your mighty men have fallen in battle. Jonathan lies dead on your hills.

26. യോനാഥാനേ, എന്റെ സഹോദരാ, നിന്നെച്ചൊല്ലി ഞാന് ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു; നീ എനിക്കു അതിവത്സലന് ആയിരുന്നു; നിന് പ്രേമം കളത്രപ്രേമത്തിലും വിസ്മയമേറിയതു.

26. My brother Jonathan, I'm filled with sadness because of you. You were very special to me. Your love for me was wonderful. It was more wonderful than the love of women.

27. വീരന്മാര് പട്ടുപോയതു എങ്ങനെ; യുദ്ധായുധങ്ങള് നശിച്ചുപോയല്ലോ!

27. 'Israel's mighty men have fallen. Their weapons of war are broken.'
