1. ഞങ്ങള് മതില് പണിയുന്നു എന്നു സന് ബല്ലത്ത് കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന് കോപവും മഹാരോഷവും പൂണ്ടു യെഹൂദന്മാരെ നിന്ദിച്ചു.

1. When Sanballat heard we were rebuilding the wall, he was very angry, even furious. He made fun of the Jewish people.

2. ഈ ദുര്ബ്ബലന്മാരായ യെഹൂദന്മാര് എന്തു ചെയ്വാന് പോകുന്നു? അവരെ സമ്മതിക്കുമോ അവര് യാഗം കഴിക്കുമോ? ഒരു ദിവസംകൊണ്ടു പണി തീര്ത്തുകളയുമോ? വെന്തുകിടക്കുന്ന ചണ്ടിക്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങളില് നിന്നു അവര് കല്ലു ജീവിപ്പിക്കുമോ എന്നിങ്ങനെ തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും ശമര്യ്യാസൈന്യവും കേള്ക്കെ പറഞ്ഞു.

2. He said to his friends and those with power in Samaria, 'What are these weak Jews doing? Will they rebuild the wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Can they finish it in one day? Can they bring stones back to life from piles of trash and ashes?'

3. അപ്പോള് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നിരുന്ന അമ്മോന്യനായ തോബീയാവുഅവര് എങ്ങനെ പണിതാലും ഒരു കുറുക്കന് കയറിയാല് അവരുടെ കന്മതില് ഉരുണ്ടുവീഴും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Tobiah the Ammonite, who was next to Sanballat, said, 'If a fox climbed up on the stone wall they are building, it would break it down.'

4. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമേ, കേള്ക്കേണമേ; ഞങ്ങള് നിന്ദിതന്മാര് ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ നിന്ദയെ അവരുടെ സ്വന്തതലയിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു പ്രവാസദേശത്തില് അവരെ കവര്ച്ചെക്കു ഏല്പിക്കേണമേ.

4. I prayed, 'Hear us, our God. We are hated. Turn the insults of Sanballat and Tobiah back on their own heads. Let them be captured and stolen like valuables.

5. പണിയുന്നവര് കേള്ക്കെ അവര് നിന്നെ കോപിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കയാല് അവരുടെ അകൃത്യം മറെക്കരുതേ; അവരുടെ പാപം നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് നിന്നു മാഞ്ഞുപോകയും അരുതേ.

5. Do not hide their guilt or take away their sins so that you can't see them, because they have insulted the builders.'

6. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങള് മതില് പണിതു; വേല ചെയ്വാന് ജനത്തിന്നു ഉത്സാഹം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു മതില് മഴുവനും പാതിപൊക്കംവരെ തീര്ത്തു.

6. So we rebuilt the wall to half its height, because the people were willing to work.

7. യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ മതിലുകള് അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ന്നുവരുന്നു എന്നും ഇടിവുകള് അടഞ്ഞുതുടങ്ങി എന്നും സന് ബല്ലത്തും തോബീയാവും അരാബ്യരും അമ്മോന്യരും അസ്തോദ്യരും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര്ക്കും മഹാകോപം ജനിച്ചു.

7. But Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the people from Ashdod were very angry when they heard that the repairs to Jerusalem's walls were continuing and that the holes in the wall were being closed.

8. യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നേരെ ചെന്നു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നും അവിടെ കലക്കം വരുത്തേണ്ടതിന്നും അവര് ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി.

8. So they all made plans to come to Jerusalem and fight and stir up trouble.

9. ഞങ്ങളോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; അവരുടെ നിമിത്തം രാവും പകലും കാവല്ക്കാരെ ആക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു.

9. But we prayed to our God and appointed guards to watch for them day and night.

10. എന്നാല് യെഹൂദ്യര്ചുമട്ടുകാരുടെ ശക്തി ക്ഷയിച്ചുപോകുന്നു; കല്ലും മണ്ണും ഇനിയും വളരെ കിടക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് മതില് പണിവാന് നമുക്കു കഴികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. The people of Judah said, 'The workers are getting tired. There is so much trash we cannot rebuild the wall.'

11. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ശത്രുക്കളോനാം അവരുടെ ഇടയില് ചെന്നു അവരെ കൊന്നു പണി മുടക്കുന്നതുവരെ അവര് ഒന്നും അറികയും കാണുകയും അരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And our enemies said, 'The Jews won't know or see anything until we come among them and kill them and stop the work.'

12. അവരുടെ സമീപം പാര്ത്ത യെഹൂദന്മാര് പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളില്നിന്നും വന്നു; നിങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വരുവിന് എന്നു പത്തു പ്രാവശ്യം ഞങ്ങളോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

12. Then the Jewish people who lived near our enemies came and told us ten times, 'Everywhere you turn, the enemy will attack us.'

13. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് മതിലിന്റെ പിമ്പുറത്തു പൊക്കം കുറഞ്ഞ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ആളുകളെ ആക്കി ജനത്തെ കുടുംബം കുടുംബമായി വാളുകളോടും കുന്തങ്ങളോടും വില്ലുകളോടും കൂടെ നിര്ത്തി.

13. So I put people behind the lowest places along the wall -- the open places -- and I put families together with their swords, spears, and bows.

14. ഞാന് നോക്കി എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിന്നു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും പ്രമാണികളോടും ശേഷം ജനത്തോടുംനിങ്ങള് അവരെ പേടിക്കേണ്ടാ; വലിയവനും ഭയങ്കരനുമായ കര്ത്താവിനെ ഔര്ത്തു നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും പുത്രിമാര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാര്ക്കും വീടുകള്ക്കും വേണ്ടി പൊരുതുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. Then I looked around and stood up and said to the important men, the leaders, and the rest of the people: 'Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and powerful. Fight for your brothers, your sons and daughters, your wives, and your homes.'

15. ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അറിവു കിട്ടിപ്പോയെന്നും ദൈവം അവരുടെ ആലോചനയെ നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കിയെന്നും ഞങ്ങളുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് കേട്ടശേഷം ഞങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും മതിലിങ്കല് താന്താന്റെ വേലെക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുവാനിടയായി.

15. Then our enemies heard that we knew about their plans and that God had ruined their plans. So we all went back to the wall, each to his own work.

16. അന്നുമുതലക്കു എന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് പാതിപേര് വേലെക്കു നിന്നു പാതിപേര് കുന്തവും പരിചയും വില്ലും കവചവും ധരിച്ചു നിന്നു; മതില് പണിയുന്ന എല്ലാ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെയും പുറകില് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് നിന്നു;

16. From that day on, half my people worked on the wall. The other half was ready with spears, shields, bows, and armor. The officers stood in back of the people of Judah

17. ചുമടെടുക്കുന്ന ചുമട്ടുകാര് ഒരു കൈകൊണ്ടു വേല ചെയ്കയും മറ്റെ കൈകൊണ്ടു ആയുധം പിടിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

17. who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and carried a weapon with the other.

18. പണിയുന്നവര് അരെക്കു വാള് കെട്ടിയുംകൊണ്ടു പണിതു. എന്നാല് കാഹളം ഊതുന്നവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു.

18. Each builder wore his sword at his side as he worked. The man who blew the trumpet to warn the people stayed next to me.

19. ഞാന് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും പ്രമാണികളോടും ശേഷംജനത്തോടുംവേല വലിയതും വിശാലമായതും ആകുന്നു; നാം മതിലിന്മേല് ചിതറി തമ്മില് തമ്മില് അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Then I said to the important men, the leaders, and the rest of the people, 'This is a very big job. We are spreading out along the wall so that we are far apart.

20. നിങ്ങള് കാഹളനാദം കേള്ക്കുന്നേടത്തു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് കൂടിക്കൊള്വിന് ; നമ്മുടെ ദൈവം നമുക്കു വേണ്ടി യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, assemble there. Our God will fight for us.'

21. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങള് പണി നടത്തി; പാതിപേര് നേരം വെളുക്കുമ്പോള്തുടങ്ങി നക്ഷത്രം പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നതുവരെ കുന്തം പിടിച്ചുനിന്നു.

21. So we continued to work with half the men holding spears from sunrise till the stars came out.

22. ആ കാലത്തു ഞാന് ജനത്തോടുരാത്രിയില് നമുക്കു കാവലിന്നും പകല് വേല ചെയ്യുന്നതിന്നും ഉതകത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ വേലക്കാരനുമായി യെരൂശലേമിന്നകത്തു പാര്ക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. At that time I also said to the people, 'Let every man and his helper stay inside Jerusalem at night. They can be our guards at night and workmen during the day.'

23. ഞാനോ എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോ എന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരോ എന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള കാവല്ക്കാരോ ആരും ഉടുപ്പു മാറിയില്ല; കുളിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തുകൂടെയും ആയുധം ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

23. Neither I, my brothers, my workers, nor the guards with me ever took off our clothes. Each person carried his weapon even when he went for water.
