1. വെള്ളിക്കു ഒരു ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനവും പൊന്നു ഊതിക്കഴിപ്പാന് ഒരു സ്ഥലവും ഉണ്ടു.

1. Surely there is a mine for the silver, and a place for gold [where] they refine [it].

2. ഇരിമ്പു മണ്ണില്നിന്നെടുക്കുന്നു; കല്ലുരുക്കി ചെമ്പെടുക്കുന്നു.

2. Iron is taken out of the dust, and bronze [is] melted [out of] the stone.

3. മനുഷ്യന് അന്ധകാരത്തിന്നു ഒരതിര് വെക്കുന്നു; കൂരിരുളിലെയും അന്ധതമസ്സിലെയും കല്ലിനെ അങ്ങേയറ്റംവരെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നു.

3. He set a border unto the darkness, and unto every perfect work that he made, he [placed] a stone of darkness and shadow of death.

4. പാര്പ്പുള്ളേടത്തുനിന്നു ദൂരെ അവര് കുഴികുത്തുന്നു; കടന്നുപോകുന്ന കാലിന്നു അവര് മറന്നു പോയവര് തന്നേ; മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും അകലെ അവര് തൂങ്ങി ആടുന്നു.

4. The river breaks forth next to the inhabitant; [even the waters] forgotten of the foot, that were higher than man, are gone away.

5. ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ആഹാരം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു; അതിന്റെ അധോഭാഗം തീകൊണ്ടെന്നപോലെ മറിയുന്നു.

5. Land out of which bread comes forth, and underneath it shall be as [if] it were converted in fire.

6. അതിലെ പാറകള് നീലരത്നത്തിന്റെ ഉല്പത്തിസ്ഥാനം; കനകപ്പൊടിയും അതില് ഉണ്ടു.

6. A place where its stones shall be sapphires; and it shall have dust of gold.

7. അതിന്റെ പാത കഴുകന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; പരുന്തിന്റെ കണ്ണു അതിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.

7. A path which no fowl knows and which the vulture's eye has never seen;

8. പുളെച്ച കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങള് അതില് ചവിട്ടീട്ടില്ല; ഘോരസിംഹം അതിലെ നടന്നിട്ടുമില്ല.

8. the young of the proud have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by it.

9. അവര് തീക്കല്പാറയിലേക്കു കൈനീട്ടുന്നു; പര്വ്വതങ്ങളെ അവര് വേരോടെ മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

9. He put his hand upon the flint and overturned the mountains from the root.

10. അവര് പാറകളുടെ ഇടയില്കൂടി നടകളെ വെട്ടുന്നു; അവരുടെ കണ്ണു വിലയേറിയ വസ്തുക്കളെയൊക്കെയും കാണുന്നു.

10. He cut rivers out of the rocks; and his eye saw every precious thing.

11. അവര് നീരൊഴുക്കുകളെ ചോരാതവണ്ണം അടെച്ചു നിര്ത്തുന്നു; ഗുപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നതു അവര് വെളിച്ചത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു.

11. He detained the rivers in their source and caused that which was hid to be brought to light.

12. എന്നാല് ജ്ഞാനം എവിടെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടും? വിവേകത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം എവിടെ?

12. But where shall wisdom be found? And where [is] the place of understanding?

13. അതിന്റെ വില മനുഷ്യന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; ജീവനുള്ളവരുടെ ദേശത്തു അതിനെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നില്ല.

13. Man never knew its price; neither is it found in the land of the living.

14. അതു എന്നില് ഇല്ല എന്നു ആഴി പറയുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ പക്കല് ഇല്ല എന്നു സമുദ്രവും പറയുന്നു.

14. The deep saith, It [is] not in me; and the sea saith, [It is] not with me.

15. തങ്കം കൊടുത്താല് അതു കിട്ടുന്നതല്ല; അതിന്റെ വിലയായി വെള്ളി തൂക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാറുമില്ല.

15. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed [for] its price.

16. ഔഫീര്പൊന്നോ വിലയേറിയ ഗോമേദകമോ നീലരത്നമോ ഒന്നും അതിന്നു ഈടാകുന്നതല്ല;

16. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire.

17. സ്വര്ണ്ണവും സ്ഫടികവും അതിനോടു ഒക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്കം കൊണ്ടുള്ള പണ്ടങ്ങള്ക്കു അതിനെ മാറിക്കൊടുപ്പാറില്ല.

17. Gold cannot equal it, nor can diamond; neither shall it be exchanged for vessels of fine gold.

18. പവിഴത്തിന്റെയും പളുങ്കിന്റെയും പേര് മിണ്ടുകേ വേണ്ടാ; ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വില മുത്തുകളിലും കവിഞ്ഞതല്ലോ.

18. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for wisdom is better than precious stones.

19. കൂശിലെ പുഷ്പരാഗം അതിനോടു ഒക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്കംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ വില മതിക്കാകുന്നതുമല്ല.

19. The emerald of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

20. പിന്നെ ജ്ഞാനം എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു? വിവേകത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം എവിടെ?

20. Where then does wisdom come from? And where [is] the place of understanding?

21. അതു സകലജീവികളുടെയും കണ്ണുകള്ക്കു മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കു അതു ഗുപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

21. Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living and kept concealed from every fowl of the heaven.

22. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചെവികൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ കേള്വി കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു നരകവും മരണവും പറയുന്നു.

22. Hell and death say, We have heard its fame with our ears.

23. ദൈവം അതിന്റെ വഴി അറിയുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനം അവന്നു നിശ്ചയമുണ്ടു.

23. God understands its way, and he [alone] knows its place.

24. അവന് ഭൂമിയുടെ അറ്റങ്ങളോളവും നോക്കുന്നു; ആകാശത്തിന്റെ കീഴിലൊക്കെയും കാണുന്നു.

24. For he looks unto the ends of the earth [and] sees under the whole heaven,

25. അവന് കാറ്റിനെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുകയും വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ അളവു നിശ്ചയിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

25. To make a weight for the wind and to supply water by measure,

26. അവന് മഴെക്കു ഒരു നിയമവും ഇടിമിന്നലിന്നു ഒരു വഴിയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയപ്പോള്

26. when he made a law for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunders.

27. അവന് അതു കണ്ടു വര്ണ്ണിക്കയും അതു സ്ഥാപിച്ചു പരിശോധിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

27. Then he saw it and counted it; he prepared it and also searched it out.

28. കര്ത്താവിനോടുള്ള ഭക്തി തന്നേ ജ്ഞാനം; ദോഷം അകന്നു നടക്കുന്നതു തന്നേ വിവേകം എന്നു അവന് മനുഷ്യനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

28. And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, [is] wisdom; and to depart from evil [is] understanding.:
