1. യഹോവേ ഞാന് നിന്നോടു വാദിച്ചാല് നീ നീതിമാനായിരിക്കും; എങ്കിലും ന്യായങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു ഞാന് നിന്നോടു ചോദിപ്പാന് തുനിയുന്നു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ വഴി ശുഭമായിരിപ്പാന് സംഗതി എന്തു? ദ്രോഹം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നവരൊക്കെയും നിര്ഭയന്മാരായിരിക്കുന്നതെന്തു?

1. The word that came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh saying:

2. നീ അവരെ നട്ടു അവര് വേരൂന്നി വളര്ന്നു ഫലം കായിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ വായില് നീ സമീപസ്ഥനായും അന്തരംഗത്തില് ദൂരസ്ഥനായും ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

2. Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak ye unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,

3. എന്നാല് യഹോവേ, എന്നെ നീ അറിയുന്നു; നീ എന്നെ കണ്ടു നിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ ശോധനചെയ്യുന്നു; അറുപ്പാനുള്ള ആടുകളെപ്പോലെ അവരെ വലിച്ചിഴെക്കേണമേ; കുലദിവസത്തിന്നായി അവരെ വേറുതിരിക്കേണമേ.

3. and say thou unto them, Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Accursed, is the man who will not hear the words of this covenant;

4. ദേശം ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നതും നിലത്തിലെ സസ്യമൊക്കെയും വാടുന്നതും എത്രത്തോളം? നിവാസികളുടെ ദുഷ്ടതനിമിത്തം മൃഗങ്ങളും പക്ഷികളും നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നു; ഇവന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ അന്ത്യാവസ്ഥ കാണുകയില്ല എന്നു അവര് പറയുന്നു.

4. which I commanded your fathers in the day when I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt out of the smelting-pot of iron saying, Hearken unto my voice and do them, According to all that I may command you, So shall ye become my people, And, I, will become, your God:

5. കാലാളുകളോടുകൂടെ ഔടീട്ടു നീ ക്ഷീണിച്ചുപോയാല്, കുതിരകളോടു എങ്ങനെ മത്സരിച്ചോടും? സമാധാനമുള്ള ദേശത്തു നീ നിര്ഭയനായിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് യോര്ദ്ദാന്റെ വന് കാട്ടില് നീ എന്തു ചെയ്യും?

5. That the oath may be established which I sware to your fathers, To give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I and said, Amen, O Yahweh!

6. നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും പിതൃഭവനവും നിന്നോടു ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അവരുംകൂടെ നിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ആര്പ്പുവിളിക്കുന്നു; അവര് നിന്നോടു ചക്കരവാക്കു പറഞ്ഞാലും അവരെ വിശ്വസിക്കരുതു.

6. And Yahweh said unto me, Proclaim thou all, these words, throughout the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them,

7. ഞാന് എന്റെ ആലയത്തെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു, എന്റെ അവകാശത്തെ ത്യജിച്ചു, എന്റെ പ്രാണപ്രിയയെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

7. For I, solemnly took your fathers to witness, in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt even until this day, betimes, taking them to witness saying, Hearken ye unto my voice.

8. എന്റെ അവകാശം എനിക്കു കാട്ടിലെ സിംഹംപോലെ ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ നേരെ നാദം കേള്പ്പിക്കുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് അതിനെ വെറുക്കുന്നു.

8. Howbeit they hearkened not neither inclined their ear, but walked severally in the stubbornness of their wicked heart, so then I brought upon them all the words of this covenant which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.

9. എന്റെ അവകാശം എനിക്കു പുള്ളിക്കഴുകനെപ്പോലെയോ? കഴുകന്മാര് അതിനെ ചുറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നുവോ? ചെന്നു എല്ലാ കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു തിന്മാന് വരുവിന് .

9. Yahweh therefore said unto me, There is found a conspiracy, among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem:

10. അനേകം ഇടയന്മാര് എന്റെ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടം നശിപ്പിക്കയും എന്റെ ഔഹരിയെ ചവിട്ടിക്കളകയും എന്റെ മനോഹരമായ ഔഹരിയെ ശൂന്യമരുഭൂമിയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. They have turned back unto the iniquities of their first fathers who refused to hear my words, yea, they themselves, have walked after other gods to serve them, the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I solemnised with their fathers.

11. അവര് അതിനെ ശൂന്യമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ശൂന്യമായിത്തീര്ന്നതിനാല് അതു എന്നോടു സങ്കടം പറയുന്നു; ആരും ശ്രദ്ധവെക്കായ്കയാല് ദേശം ഒക്കെയും ശൂന്യമായ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! bringing upon them calamity, which they shall not be able to escape, and though they make outcry unto me, yet will I not hearken unto them.

12. വിനാശകന്മാര് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ മൊട്ടക്കുന്നിന്മേലൊക്കെയും വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയുടെ വാള് ദേശത്തെ ഒരു അറ്റം മുതല് മറ്റേ അറ്റംവരെ തിന്നുകളയുന്നു; ഒരു ജഡത്തിന്നും സമാധാനം ഇല്ല.

12. Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, go and make outcry unto the gods to whom they have been burning incense, but they will not at all, save, them in the time of their calamity;

13. അവര് കോതമ്പു വിതെച്ചു മുള്ളു കൊയ്തു; അവര് പ്രായസപ്പെട്ടു ഒരു ഫലവും ഉണ്ടായില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപംനിമിത്തം അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ വിളവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ലജ്ജിക്കും.

13. for according to the number of thy cities, have become thy gods O Judah, and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem, have ye set up album to the Shameful thing, altars for burning incense to Baal.

14. ഞാന് എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന അവകാശത്തെ തൊടുന്ന ദുഷ്ടന്മാരായ എന്റെ എല്ലാ അയല്ക്കാരെയും കുറിച്ചു യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് അവരെ അവരുടെ ദേശത്തുനിന്നു പറിച്ചുകളയും; യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തെ ഞാന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു പറിച്ചുകളയും.

14. Thou, therefore do not pray for this people, Neither lift thou up for them cry or prayer, For I am not going to hear in the time that they cry unto me concerning their calamity.

15. അവരെ പറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞ ശേഷം ഞാന് വീണ്ടും അവരോടു കരുണ കാണിച്ചു ഔരോരുത്തനെ അവനവന്റെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കും ദേശത്തിലേക്കും തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തും.

15. Why hath the beloved in mine own house, done an abomination? Shall, vows and holy flesh, take away from thee thy wickednesses, or shalt thou by these, escape?

16. അവര് എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ബാലിന്റെ നാമത്തില് സത്യം ചെയ്വാന് പഠിപ്പിച്ചതുപോലെ, യഹോയാണ എന്നു എന്റെ നാമത്തില് സത്യം ചെയ്വാന് തക്കവണ്ണം എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ നടവടികളെ താല്പര്യത്തോടെ പഠിക്കുമെങ്കില് അവര് എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേ അഭിവൃദ്ധി പ്രാപിക്കും.

16. A green olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit, did Yahweh call thy name, with the noise of a great tumult, hath he kindled fire upon it, and the branches thereof shall be broken.

17. അവര് കേട്ടനുസരിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലോ, ഞാന് ആ ജാതിയെ പറിച്ചു നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളയും എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

17. But, Yahweh of hosts, who planted thee hath pronounced against thee calamity, on account of the wickedness of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah which they have wrought for themselves, provoking me to anger by burning incense to Baal.
