1. രക്തപാതകങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! അതു മുഴുവനും വ്യാജവും അപഹാരവും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; കവര്ച്ച വിട്ടുപോകുന്നതുമില്ല.

1. Woe to the bloody city! It is a lie, and full of plunder; the prey is not withdrawn.

2. ചമ്മട്ടിയുടെ ഒച്ച; ചക്രങ്ങള് കിരുകിരുക്കുന്ന ശബ്ദം; പായുന്ന കുതിരകള്; ഔടുന്ന രഥങ്ങള്!

2. The sound of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of a wheel, and of a galloping horse, and of a bounding chariot.

3. കുതിരകയറുന്ന കുതിരച്ചേവകര്; ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന വാള്; മിന്നുന്ന കുന്തം; അനേകനിഹതന്മാര്; അനവധി ശവങ്ങള്; പിണങ്ങള്ക്കു കണക്കില്ല; അവര് പിണങ്ങള് തടഞ്ഞു വീഴുന്നു.

3. The horseman lifts up both the bright sword and the lightning of the spear. And many are slain, and there are a mass of dead bodies, and no end of corpses; they stumble on their dead bodies,

4. പരസംഗംകൊണ്ടു ജാതികളെയും ക്ഷുദ്രപ്രയോഗംകൊണ്ടു വംശങ്ങളെയും വിലക്കുന്നവളായി ക്ഷുദ്രനൈപുണ്യവും സൌന്ദര്യവുമുള്ള വേശ്യയുടെ പരസംഗബഹുത്വംനിമിത്തം തന്നേ ഇങ്ങനെ ഭവിച്ചതു.

4. because of the many harlotries of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of sorceries who sells nations by her harlotries, and families by her sorceries.

5. ഞാന് നിന്റെ നേരെ വരും, ഞാന് നിന്റെ വസ്ത്രാഗ്രങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ മുഖംവരെ പൊക്കി ജാതികളെ നിന്റെ നഗ്നതയും രാജ്യങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ നാണിടവും കാണിക്കും എന്നു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

5. Behold, I am against you, says Jehovah of Hosts; and I will uncover your skirts upon your face. And I will cause the nations to see your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame.

6. ഞാന് അമേദ്ധ്യം നിന്റെ മേല് എറിഞ്ഞു നിന്നെ കുത്സിതയും നിന്ദാവിഷയവുമാക്കും.

6. And I will cast filth upon you, and will dishonor you, and will set you as a gazing-stock.

7. അങ്ങനെ നിന്നെ കാണുന്ന ഏവരും നിന്നെ വിട്ടു ഔടിനീനെവേ ശൂന്യമായിക്കിടക്കുന്നു; ആര് അവളോടു സഹതാപം കാണിക്കും; ഞാന് എവിടെനിന്നു നിനക്കു ആശ്വാസകന്മാരെ അന്വേഷിക്കേണ്ടു എന്നു പറയും.

7. And it shall be that all those who look upon you shall flee from you, and say, Nineveh is laid waste; who will weep for her? From where shall I seek comforters for you?

8. നദികളുടെ ഇടയില് ഇരിക്കുന്നതും ചുറ്റും വെള്ളം ഉള്ളതും സമുദ്രം വാടയും സമുദ്രം മതിലും ആയിരിക്കുന്നതുമായ നോ-അമ്മോനെക്കാള് നീ ഉത്തമ ആകുന്നുവോ? കൂശും മിസ്രയീമും അവളുടെ ബലമായിരുന്നു; അതു സീമയില്ലാത്തതായിരുന്നു; പൂത്യരും ലൂബ്യരും നിന്റെ സഹായകന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

8. Are you better than No Amon, that dwelt among the Nile branches, waters all around her, whose rampart was the sea, the waters her wall?

9. എന്നിട്ടും അവള് ബദ്ധയായി പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു; അവളുടെ പൈതങ്ങളെ അവര് സകലവീഥികളുടെയും തലെക്കല്വെച്ചു തകര്ത്തുകളഞ്ഞു; അവളുടെ മാന്യന്മാര്ക്കും അവര് ചീട്ടിട്ടു, അവളുടെ സകലമഹാന്മാരെയും ചങ്ങലകൊണ്ടു ബന്ധിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

9. Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, yea, without end. Put and Lubim were among your helpers.

10. അങ്ങനെ നീയും ലഹരിപിടിച്ചു ബോധംകെട്ടു വീഴും; നീയും ശത്രുനിമിത്തം ഒരു അഭയസ്ഥാനം അന്വേഷിക്കും.

10. Yet she went into exile; she went into captivity, and her young children also were dashed to pieces at the head of all the streets; and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

11. നിന്റെ കോട്ടകള് ഒക്കെയും തലപ്പഴത്തോടുകൂടിയ അത്തിവൃക്ഷങ്ങള് പോലെയാകും; കുലുക്കിയാല് അവ തിന്നുന്നവന്റെ വായില്തന്നേ വീഴും.

11. You also shall be drunken; you shall be hidden, you also shall seek strength because of the enemy.

12. നിന്റെ ജനം നിന്റെ നടുവില് പെണ്ണുങ്ങള് ആകുന്നു; നിന്റെ ദേശത്തിന്റെ വാതിലുകള് നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു വിസ്താരമായി തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ ഔടാമ്പലുകള് തീക്കു ഇരയായ്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. All your strongholds shall be like fig trees with the first fruits; if they are shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

13. നിരോധത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി വെള്ളം കോരിക്കൊള്ക; നിന്റെ കൊത്തളങ്ങളെ ഉറപ്പിക്ക; ചെളിയില് ചെന്നു കളിമണ്ണു ചവിട്ടുക; ഇഷ്ടകയച്ചു പിടിക്ക!

13. Behold, your people in your midst are women. The gates of your land shall surely be opened to your enemies; the fire shall devour your bars.

14. അവിടെ തീ നിന്നെ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളയും; വാള് നിന്നെ ഛേദിച്ചു വിട്ടില് എന്നപോലെ നിന്നെ തിന്നുകളയും; വിട്ടില് എന്നപോലെ നിന്നെ തന്നേ പെരുക്കുക; വെട്ടുക്കിളി എന്നപോലെ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ പെരുക്കുക.

14. Draw waters for the siege; fortify your strongholds; go into the clay, and tread the mortar; make the brick mold strong.

15. നിന്റെ വര്ത്തകന്മാരെ നീ ആകാശത്തിലെ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെക്കാള് വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചുവല്ലൊ; വിട്ടില് പടം കഴിച്ചു പറന്നുപോകുന്നു.

15. There fire shall devour you; the sword shall cut you off, it shall eat you up like the locust. Make yourself as many as the larvae, multiply yourself like the locusts.

16. നിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് വെട്ടുക്കിളികള്പോലെയും നിന്റെ സേനാധിപതിമാര് ശിതമുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് മതിലുകളിന്മേല് പറ്റുന്ന വിട്ടില്കൂട്ടംപോലെയും ആകുന്നു; സൂര്യന് ഉദിക്കുമ്പോള് അവ പറന്നുപോകുന്നു; അവ ചെന്നിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം ആരും അറിയുന്നില്ല.

16. You have multiplied your merchants above the stars of heaven; the locust larvae shall strip off and fly away.

17. അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവേ, നിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര് ഉറങ്ങുന്നു; നിന്റെ കുലീനന്മാര് വിശ്രമിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ ജനം പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് ചിതറിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരെ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്പ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല.

17. Your rulers are like the locusts, and your officials are a swarm of locusts that camp in the hedges in the cold day; the sun rises, and they flee, and the place where they are is not known.

18. നിന്റെ കേടിന്നു ഉപശാന്തി ഇല്ല; നിന്റെ മുറിവു വിഷമമാകുന്നു; നിന്റെ വര്ത്തമാനം കേള്ക്കുന്ന ഏവരും നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കൈകൊട്ടും; ആരുടെ മേലാകുന്നു നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത ഇടവിടാതെ കവിഞ്ഞുവരാതിരുന്നതു?

18. Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria. Your nobles are at rest; your people are scattered upon the mountains, and no one is gathering.
