1. രക്തപാതകങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! അതു മുഴുവനും വ്യാജവും അപഹാരവും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; കവര്ച്ച വിട്ടുപോകുന്നതുമില്ല.

1. Alas for the city of bloodshed! All of it, deceit, of violence full, none releaseth prey!

2. ചമ്മട്ടിയുടെ ഒച്ച; ചക്രങ്ങള് കിരുകിരുക്കുന്ന ശബ്ദം; പായുന്ന കുതിരകള്; ഔടുന്ന രഥങ്ങള്!

2. The sound of the whip, and the sound of the rushing wheel, and horse galloping, and dancing chariot rattling along.

3. കുതിരകയറുന്ന കുതിരച്ചേവകര്; ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന വാള്; മിന്നുന്ന കുന്തം; അനേകനിഹതന്മാര്; അനവധി ശവങ്ങള്; പിണങ്ങള്ക്കു കണക്കില്ല; അവര് പിണങ്ങള് തടഞ്ഞു വീഴുന്നു.

3. Horsemen uplifting both the flashing sword, and the lightning spear, Aye, a mass of slain, and a weight of dead bridles, and no end of corpses, so that they stumble upon their corpses.

4. പരസംഗംകൊണ്ടു ജാതികളെയും ക്ഷുദ്രപ്രയോഗംകൊണ്ടു വംശങ്ങളെയും വിലക്കുന്നവളായി ക്ഷുദ്രനൈപുണ്യവും സൌന്ദര്യവുമുള്ള വേശ്യയുടെ പരസംഗബഹുത്വംനിമിത്തം തന്നേ ഇങ്ങനെ ഭവിച്ചതു.

4. Because of the multitude of the unchaste doings of the unchaste one, fair in grace, mistress of secret arts, who hath been selling nations by her unchaste doings, families by her secret arts,

5. ഞാന് നിന്റെ നേരെ വരും, ഞാന് നിന്റെ വസ്ത്രാഗ്രങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ മുഖംവരെ പൊക്കി ജാതികളെ നിന്റെ നഗ്നതയും രാജ്യങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ നാണിടവും കാണിക്കും എന്നു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

5. Behold me! against thee, Declareth Yahweh of hosts, Therefore will I remove thy shirts over thy face, and let, nations, see thy nakedness, and, kingdoms, thy shame;

6. ഞാന് അമേദ്ധ്യം നിന്റെ മേല് എറിഞ്ഞു നിന്നെ കുത്സിതയും നിന്ദാവിഷയവുമാക്കും.

6. And I will cast upon thee abominable filth, and treat thee as foolish, and set thee as a gazing-stock.

7. അങ്ങനെ നിന്നെ കാണുന്ന ഏവരും നിന്നെ വിട്ടു ഔടിനീനെവേ ശൂന്യമായിക്കിടക്കുന്നു; ആര് അവളോടു സഹതാപം കാണിക്കും; ഞാന് എവിടെനിന്നു നിനക്കു ആശ്വാസകന്മാരെ അന്വേഷിക്കേണ്ടു എന്നു പറയും.

7. And it shall come to pass that, all who see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say, Destroyed is Nineveh! Who will bemoan her? Whence shall I seek any to comfort thee?

8. നദികളുടെ ഇടയില് ഇരിക്കുന്നതും ചുറ്റും വെള്ളം ഉള്ളതും സമുദ്രം വാടയും സമുദ്രം മതിലും ആയിരിക്കുന്നതുമായ നോ-അമ്മോനെക്കാള് നീ ഉത്തമ ആകുന്നുവോ? കൂശും മിസ്രയീമും അവളുടെ ബലമായിരുന്നു; അതു സീമയില്ലാത്തതായിരുന്നു; പൂത്യരും ലൂബ്യരും നിന്റെ സഹായകന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

8. Art thou better than No-amon, who sat among the Nile-streams, waters round about her, whose fortress was the sea, from the sea, her wall.

9. എന്നിട്ടും അവള് ബദ്ധയായി പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു; അവളുടെ പൈതങ്ങളെ അവര് സകലവീഥികളുടെയും തലെക്കല്വെച്ചു തകര്ത്തുകളഞ്ഞു; അവളുടെ മാന്യന്മാര്ക്കും അവര് ചീട്ടിട്ടു, അവളുടെ സകലമഹാന്മാരെയും ചങ്ങലകൊണ്ടു ബന്ധിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

9. Ethiopia, was her strength, and Egypt Yea, without end, Put and Lubim, were among thy helpers.

10. അങ്ങനെ നീയും ലഹരിപിടിച്ചു ബോധംകെട്ടു വീഴും; നീയും ശത്രുനിമിത്തം ഒരു അഭയസ്ഥാനം അന്വേഷിക്കും.

10. Yet, she, was given up to exile, she went into captivity, even her babes, were dashed to the ground, at the head of all the streets, and, for her honourable men, cast they lots, and, all her great men, were bound together in chains.

11. നിന്റെ കോട്ടകള് ഒക്കെയും തലപ്പഴത്തോടുകൂടിയ അത്തിവൃക്ഷങ്ങള് പോലെയാകും; കുലുക്കിയാല് അവ തിന്നുന്നവന്റെ വായില്തന്നേ വീഴും.

11. Thou too, shalt be drunken, thou shalt hide thyself, thou too, shalt seek shelter from the foe:

12. നിന്റെ ജനം നിന്റെ നടുവില് പെണ്ണുങ്ങള് ആകുന്നു; നിന്റെ ദേശത്തിന്റെ വാതിലുകള് നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു വിസ്താരമായി തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ ഔടാമ്പലുകള് തീക്കു ഇരയായ്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. All thy fortresses, shall be fig-trees with first-ripe figs: if thy be shaken, then shall the fruit fall on the mouth of the eater.

13. നിരോധത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി വെള്ളം കോരിക്കൊള്ക; നിന്റെ കൊത്തളങ്ങളെ ഉറപ്പിക്ക; ചെളിയില് ചെന്നു കളിമണ്ണു ചവിട്ടുക; ഇഷ്ടകയച്ചു പിടിക്ക!

13. Lo! thy people, are women, in thy midst, to thy foes, have been set wide open the gates of thy and, a fire, hath devoured, thy bars.

14. അവിടെ തീ നിന്നെ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളയും; വാള് നിന്നെ ഛേദിച്ചു വിട്ടില് എന്നപോലെ നിന്നെ തിന്നുകളയും; വിട്ടില് എന്നപോലെ നിന്നെ തന്നേ പെരുക്കുക; വെട്ടുക്കിളി എന്നപോലെ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ പെരുക്കുക.

14. Siege-water, draw for thyself, strengthen thy fortresses, go into the clay, and tread thou the mortar, make strong the brick.

15. നിന്റെ വര്ത്തകന്മാരെ നീ ആകാശത്തിലെ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെക്കാള് വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചുവല്ലൊ; വിട്ടില് പടം കഴിച്ചു പറന്നുപോകുന്നു.

15. There, shall a fire devour thee, the sword, shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee like the grass locust, make thyself numerous like the grass locust, make thyself numerous as the swarming locust:

16. നിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് വെട്ടുക്കിളികള്പോലെയും നിന്റെ സേനാധിപതിമാര് ശിതമുള്ള ദിവസത്തില് മതിലുകളിന്മേല് പറ്റുന്ന വിട്ടില്കൂട്ടംപോലെയും ആകുന്നു; സൂര്യന് ഉദിക്കുമ്പോള് അവ പറന്നുപോകുന്നു; അവ ചെന്നിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം ആരും അറിയുന്നില്ല.

16. Though thou have multiplied thy foot-soldiers beyond the stars of the heavens, the grass locust, hath stript itself and flown away!

17. അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവേ, നിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര് ഉറങ്ങുന്നു; നിന്റെ കുലീനന്മാര് വിശ്രമിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ ജനം പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് ചിതറിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരെ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്പ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല.

17. Thy mercenary crowds, are like the swarming locust, and, thy mixed multitudes, like locusts swarms of locusts, which settle in the hedges on a cold day, the sun, hath broken forth, and they are in flight, and unknown is the place where they are!

18. നിന്റെ കേടിന്നു ഉപശാന്തി ഇല്ല; നിന്റെ മുറിവു വിഷമമാകുന്നു; നിന്റെ വര്ത്തമാനം കേള്ക്കുന്ന ഏവരും നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കൈകൊട്ടും; ആരുടെ മേലാകുന്നു നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത ഇടവിടാതെ കവിഞ്ഞുവരാതിരുന്നതു?

18. Asleep are thy shepherds, O king of Assyria, thy nobles, must needs rest. Scattered are thy people upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
