1. ദാര്യ്യാവേശ് രാജാവിന്റെ നാലാം ആണ്ടില്, കിസ്ളേവ് എന്ന ഒമ്പതാം മാസം, നാലാം തിയ്യതി, സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി.

1. AND IN the fourth year of the reign of King Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, Chislev.

2. ബേഥേല്കാര് യഹോവയെ പ്രസാദിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു സരേസരിനെയും രേഗെം-മേലെക്കിനെയും അവരുടെ ആളുകളെയും അയച്ചു,

2. Now the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech and their men to pray and entreat the favor of the Lord

3. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരോടും പ്രവാചകന്മാരോടുംഞങ്ങള് ഇത്ര സംവത്സരമായി ചെയ്തുവന്നതുപോലെ അഞ്ചാം മാസത്തില് കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു ഉപവസിക്കേണമോ എന്നു ചോദിപ്പിച്ചു.

3. And to speak to the priests of the house of the Lord of hosts and to the prophets, saying, [Now that I am returned from exile] should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself as I have done these so many years [in Babylon]?

4. അപ്പോള് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാല്

4. Then came the word of the Lord of hosts to me [Zechariah], saying,

5. നീ ദേശത്തിലെ സകല ജനത്തോടും പുരോഹിതന്മാരോടും പറയേണ്ടതുനിങ്ങള് ഈ എഴുപതു സംവത്സരമായി അഞ്ചാം മാസത്തിലും ഏഴാം മാസത്തിലും ഉപവസിച്ചു വിലപിക്കയില് നിങ്ങള് എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി തന്നേയോ ഉപവസിച്ചതു?

5. Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months, even those seventy years you were in exile, was it for Me that you fasted, for Me?

6. നിങ്ങള് ഭക്ഷിക്കുമ്പോഴും പാനം ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴും നിങ്ങള് തന്നേയല്ലയോ ഭക്ഷിക്കയും പാനം ചെയ്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു?

6. And when you ate and when you drank, did you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves?

7. യെരൂശലേമിന്നും അതിന്റെ ചുറ്റും അതിന്റെ ഉപനഗരങ്ങള്ക്കും നിവാസികളും സ്വസ്ഥതയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നപ്പോഴും തെക്കെ ദേശത്തിന്നും താഴ്വീതിക്കും നിവാസികള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നപ്പോഴും യഹോവ പണ്ടത്തെ പ്രവാചകന്മാര് മുഖാന്തരം പ്രസംഗിപ്പിച്ച വചനങ്ങളെ നിങ്ങള് കേട്ടനുസരിക്കേണ്ടതല്ലയോ?

7. Should you not hear the words which the Lord cried by the former prophets when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity with her cities round about her, and the South (the Negeb) and the lowlands were inhabited?

8. യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്നുണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാല്

8. And the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying,

9. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനേരോടെ ന്യായം പാലിക്കയും ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു ദയയും കരുണയും കാണിക്കയും ചെയ്വിന് .

9. Thus has the Lord of hosts spoken: Execute true judgment and show mercy and kindness and tender compassion, every man to his brother;

10. വിധവയെയും അനാഥനെയും പരദേശിയെയും ദരിദ്രനെയും പീഡിപ്പിക്കരുതു; നിങ്ങളില് ആരും തന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ നേരെ ഹൃദയത്തില് ദോഷം നിരൂപിക്കയും അരുതു.

10. And oppress not the widow or the fatherless, the temporary resident or the poor, and let none of you devise or imagine or think evil against his brother in your heart.

11. എന്നാല് ചെവി കൊടുപ്പാന് അവര്ക്കും മനസ്സില്ലായിരുന്നു; അവര് ദുശ്ശാഠ്യം കാണിക്കയും കേള്ക്കാതവണ്ണം ചെവി പൊത്തിക്കളകയും ചെയ്തു.

11. But they refused to listen and turned a rebellious and stubborn shoulder and made heavy and dull their ears that they might not hear.

12. അവര് ന്യായപ്രമാണവും സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ തന്റെ ആത്മാവിനാല് പണ്ടത്തെ പ്രവാചകന്മാര് മുഖാന്തരം അയച്ച വചനങ്ങളും കേട്ടനുസരിക്കാതവണ്ണം ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ വജ്രംപോലെ കടുപ്പമാക്കി; അങ്ങനെ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയിങ്കല്നിന്നു ഒരു മഹാകോപം വന്നു.

12. Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone or diamond point, lest they should hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore there came great wrath from the Lord of hosts.

13. ആകയാല് ഞാന് വിളിച്ചിട്ടും അവര് കേള്ക്കാതിരുന്നതുപോലെ തന്നേ അവര് നിലവിളിക്കും; ഞാന് കേള്ക്കയില്ലതാനും എന്നു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

13. So it came to pass that as He cried and they would not hear [He said], So they shall cry and I will not answer, says the Lord of hosts,

14. ഞാന് ഒരു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ അവര് അറിയാത്ത സകലജാതികളുടെയും ഇടയില് പാറ്റിക്കളഞ്ഞു; ദേശമോ ആരും പോക്കുവരത്തില്ലാതവണ്ണം അവരുടെ പിമ്പില് ശൂന്യമായ്തീര്ന്നു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് മനോഹരദേശത്തെ ശൂന്യമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

14. But I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they know not and who know not them. Thus the land was desolate after they had gone, so that no man passed through or returned, for they [the Jews by their sins] had [caused to be] laid waste and forsaken the pleasant land (the land of desire).
