1. അപ്പൊല്ലോസ് കൊരിന്തില് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് പൌലോസ് ഉള്പ്രദേശങ്ങളില് കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു എഫെസോസില് എത്തി ചില ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ കണ്ടു

1. It fortuned, while Apollos was at Corinthum, that Paul passed over(thorow) the upper coasts, and came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples

2. നിങ്ങള് വിശ്വസിച്ചിട്ടു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെ പ്രാപിച്ചുവോ എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുപരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ഉണ്ടന്നെുപോലും ഞങ്ങള് കേട്ടിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

2. and said unto them: have ye received the holy ghost after(since) ye believed? And they said unto him: No, neither have we heard if(no we have not heard whether) there be any holy ghost or no.

3. എന്നാല് ഏതായിരുന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്നാനം എന്നു അവന് അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയോഹന്നാന്റെ സ്നാനം എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And he said unto them: wherewith were ye then baptised? And they said: With John's baptism.

4. അതിന്നു പൌലൊസ്യോഹന്നാന് മനസാന്തരസ്നാനമത്രേ കഴിപ്പിച്ചു തന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവനായ യേശുവില് വിശ്വസിക്കേണം എന്നു ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. Then said Paul: John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him, which should come after him. That is on Christ Jesus.

5. ഇതു കേട്ടാറെ അവര് കര്ത്താവായ യേശുവിന്റെ നാമത്തില് സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു.

5. When they heard that, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesu,(Iesus.)

6. പൌലൊസ് അവരുടെ മേല് കൈവെച്ചപ്പോള് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു അവരുടെമേല് വന്നു അവര് അന്യഭാഷകളില് സംസാരിക്കയും പ്രവചിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

6. and when Paul laid his hands upon them, (and) the holy ghost came on them. And they spake with tongues and prophesied;

7. ആ പുരുഷന്മാര് എല്ലാം കൂടി പന്ത്രണ്ടോളം ആയിരുന്നു.

7. (and) All the men were about twelve.

8. പിന്നെ അവന് പള്ളിയില് ചെന്നു ദൈവരാജ്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു സംവാദിച്ചും സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു മൂന്നു മാസത്തോളം പ്രാഗത്ഭ്യത്തോടെ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

8. And he went into the synagogue, and behaved himself boldly for the space of three months, disputing, and giving them exhortations of the kingdom of God.

9. എന്നാല് ചിലര് കഠിനപ്പെട്ടു അനുസരിക്കാതെ പുരുഷാരത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഈ മാര്ഗ്ഗത്തെ ദുഷിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് അവരെ വിട്ടു ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ വേര്തിരിച്ചു, തുറന്നൊസിന്റെ പാഠശാലയില് ദിനംപ്രതി സംവാദിച്ചുപോന്നു.

9. When divers waxed hard hearted, and believed not, but spake evil of the way of the Lord (,and that) before the multitude: he departed from them; And severed(separated) the disciples away; And taught(disputed) daily in the school of one called Tirannus.

10. അതു രണ്ടു സംവത്സരത്തോളം നടക്കയാല് ആസ്യയില് പാര്ക്കുംന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാരും യവനന്മാരും എല്ലാം കര്ത്താവിന്റെ വചനം കേള്പ്പാന് ഇടയായി.

10. And this continued by the space of two years: So that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesu, both jews and greeks.

11. ദൈവം പൌലൊസ് മുഖാന്തരം അസാധാരണയായ വീര്യപ്രവൃത്തികളെ ചെയ്യിക്കയാല്

11. And God wrought not small miracles by the hands of Paul.

12. അവന്റെ മെയ്മേല്നിന്നു റൂമാലും ഉത്തരീയവും രോഗികളുടെമേല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിടുകയും വ്യാധികള് അവരെ വിട്ടുമാറുകയും ദുരാത്മാക്കള് പുപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.

12. So that from his body were brought unto the sick, napkins or partlets, and the diseases and evil spirits departed from them.(and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.)

13. എന്നാല് ദേശാന്തരികളായി നടക്കുന്ന മന്ത്രവാദികളായ ചില യഹൂദന്മാര്പൌലൊസ് പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്ന യേശുവിന്റെ നാമത്തില് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു ആണയിടുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യേശുവിന്റെ നാമം ചൊല്ലുവാന് തുനിഞ്ഞു.

13. (Then) Certain of the vagabond jews exorcists,(conjurers) took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus saying: We adjure you by Jesu whom Paul preacheth.

14. ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തവര് മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ സ്കേവാ എന്ന ഒരു യേഹൂദന്റെ ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാര് ആയിരുന്നു.

14. (And) There were seven sons of one Sceva a ruler of the synagogue(a Jew and chief of the priests) which did so:

15. ദുരാത്മാവു അവരോടുയേശുവിനെ ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; പൌലൊസിനെയും പരിചയമുണ്ടു; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് ആര് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

15. and the evil spirit answered and said: Jesus I know, and Paul I know: but who are ye?

16. പിന്നെ ദുരാത്മാവുള്ള മനുഷ്യന് അവരുടെമേല് ചാടി അവരെ ഇരുവരെയും കീഴടക്കി ജയിക്കയാല് അവര് നഗ്നരും മുറിവേറ്റവരുമായി ആ വീട്ടില്നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

16. And the man in whom the wicked devil(evil spirit) was, ran on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of the(that) house naked and wounded.

17. ഇതു എഫേസൊസില് പാര്ക്കുംന്ന സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരും യവനന്മാരും അറിഞ്ഞു; അവര്ക്കും ഒക്കെയും ഭയം തട്ടി, കര്ത്താവായ യേശുവിന്റെ നാമം മഹിമപ്പെട്ടു

17. (And) This was known to all the jews and greeks also, which dwelt at Ephesus, and fear came on them all. And they magnified the name of the Lord Jesus.

18. വിശ്വസിച്ചവരില് അനേകരും വന്നു തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവര്ത്തികളെ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞു അറിയിച്ചു.

18. And many that believed came, and confessed and shewed their works.

19. ക്ഷുദ്രപ്രയോഗം ചെയ്തിരുന്ന പലരും തങ്ങളുടെ പുസ്തകങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു എല്ലാവരും കാണ്കെ ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു; അവയുടെ വില കണകൂ കൂട്ടിയാറെ അമ്പതിനായിരം വെള്ളിക്കാശു എന്നു കണ്ടു.

19. Many of them which used curious crafts, brought their books and burned them before all men, and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand silverlings.

20. ഇങ്ങനെ കര്ത്താവിന്റെ വചനം ശക്തിയോടെ പരന്നു പ്രബലപ്പെട്ടു.

20. So mightily grew the word of God, and prevailed.

21. ഇതു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു പൌലൊസ് മക്കെദോന്യയിലും അഖായയിലും കൂടി കടന്നു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കും പോകേണം എന്നു മനസ്സില് നിശ്ചയിച്ചുഞാന് അവിടെ ചെന്നശേഷം റോമയും കാണേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. After these things were ended Paul purposed in the spirit, to pass over(take journey thorow) Macedonia and Acaia, and to go to Jerusalem saying: After I have been there I must also see Rome.

22. തനിക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്യുന്നവരില് തിമൊഥെയൊസ്, എരസ്തൊസ് എന്ന രണ്ടുപേരെ മക്കെദോന്യയിലേക്കു അയച്ചിട്ടു താന് കുറെക്കാലം ആസ്യയില് താമസിച്ചു.

22. So sent he into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him: Timotheus and Erastus: but he himself remained in Asia. For a season.

23. ആ കാലത്തു ഈ മാര്ഗ്ഗത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി വലിയ കലഹം ഉണ്ടായി.

23. The same time there arose no little a do about that way.

24. വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു അര്ത്തെമിസ് ദേവിയുടെ ക്ഷേത്രരൂപങ്ങളെ തീര്ക്കുംന്ന ദെമേത്രിയൊസ് എന്ന തട്ടാന് തൊഴില്ക്കാര്ക്കും വളരെ ലാഭം വരുത്തി വന്നു.

24. For a certain man named Demetrius, a goldsmith,(silversmith) which made silver shrines for Diana, was not a little beneficial(small vantage) unto the craftsmen:

25. അവന് അവരെയും ആ വകയില് ഉള്പ്പെട്ട വേലക്കാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തിപുരുഷന്മാരേ, നമ്മുടെ സമ്പാദ്യം ഈ തൊഴില്കൊണ്ടു ആകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ബോദ്ധ്യമല്ലോ.

25. which he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said: Sirs ye know that by this craft we have vantage.

26. എന്നാല് ഈ പൌലൊസ് എന്നവന് കയ്യാല് തീര്ത്തതു ദേവന്മാര് അല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു എഫെസൊസില് മാത്രമല്ല, മിക്കവാറും ആസ്യയില് ഒക്കെയും വളരെ ജനങ്ങളെ സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചു മറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് കണ്ടും കേട്ടും ഇരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

26. Moreover ye see and hear that not alone at Ephesus: but almost thorow out all Asia, this Paul entiseth,(hath persuaded) and turned away much people saying: that they be not gods which are made with hands:

27. അതിനാല് നമ്മുടെ ഈ കാര്യം ആക്ഷേപത്തില് ആകുവാന് അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതുമല്ലാതെ അര്ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവിുടെ ക്ഷേത്രം ഏതുമില്ല എന്നു വരികയും ആസ്യമുഴുവനും ഭൂതലവും ഭജിച്ചുപോരുന്നവളുടെ മാഹാത്മ്യം ഒടുങ്ങിപ്പോകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. so that not only this our craft cometh into peril to be set at nought: but that also the temple of (the) great (goddess) Diana should be despised. And her majesty(magnificence) should be destroyed, which all Asia, and the world worshippeth.

28. അവര് ഇതു കേട്ടു ക്രോധം നിറഞ്ഞവരായിഎഫെസ്യരുടെ അര്ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവി എന്നു ആര്ത്തു.

28. When they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out saying: Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29. പട്ടണം മുഴുവനും കലഹം കൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു, അവര് പൌലൊസിന്റെ കൂട്ടുയാത്രക്കാരായ ഗായൊസ് അരിസ്തര്ഹോസ് എന്ന മക്കെദോന്യരെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു രംഗസ്ഥലത്തേക്കു ഒരുമനപ്പെട്ടു പാഞ്ഞു ചെന്നു.

29. And all the city was on a roar, and they rushed into the common hall(open place) with one assent, and caught Gaius, and Aristarcus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions.

30. പൌലൊസ് ജനസമൂഹത്തില് ചെല്ലുവാന് ഭാവിച്ചാറെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അവനെ വിട്ടില്ല.

30. When Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31. ആസ്യധിപന്മാരില് ചിലര് അവന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന്മാര് ആകയാല്രംഗസ്ഥലത്തു ചെന്നു പോകരുത് എന്നു അവരും അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ആളയച്ചു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

31. Certain also of the chief of Asia which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not press into the common hall.

32. ജനസംഘം കലക്കത്തിലായി മിക്കപേരും തങ്ങള് വന്നുകൂടിയ സംഗതി എന്തെന്നു അറിയായ്കയാല് ചിലര് ഇങ്ങനെയും ചിലര് അങ്ങനെയും ആര്ത്തു.

32. Some cried one thing, and some another and the congregation was all out of quiet, and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33. യെഹൂദന്മാര് മുമ്പോട്ടു ഉന്തിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്ന അലക്സന്തരിനെ പുരുഷാരത്തില് ചിലര് സംസാരിപ്പാന് ഉത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചു; അലക്സാന്തര് ആംഗ്യം കാട്ടി ജനസമൂഹത്തോടു പ്രതിവാദിപ്പാന് ഭാവിച്ചു.

33. Some of the company drew forth Alexander (the jews thrusting him forwards) Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have given the people an answer.

34. എന്നാല് അവന് യെഹൂദന് എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്എഫെസ്യരുടെ അര്ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവി എന്നു എല്ലാവരും കൂടി രണ്ടു മണിനേരത്തോളം ഏകശബ്ദത്തോടെ ആര്ത്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

34. When they knew that he was a jew, there arose a shout almost for the space of two hours of all men crying, great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35. പിന്നെ പട്ടണമേനവന് പുരുഷാരത്തെ അമര്ത്തി പറഞ്ഞതുഎഫെസ്യപുരുഷന്മാരേ, എഫെസോസ് പട്ടണം അര്ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവിക്കും ദ്യോവില്നിന്നു വീണ ബിംബത്തിന്നും ക്ഷേത്രപലക എന്നു അറിയാത്ത മനുഷ്യന് ആര്?

35. When the town clerk had ceased the people he said: ye men of Ephesus: what man is it that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which came from heaven.(heavenly image?)

36. ഇതു എതിര്മൊഴിയില്ലാത്തതാകയാല് നിങ്ങള് തിടുക്കമായി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാതെ അടങ്ങിപ്പാര്ക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

36. Seeing then that no man saith here against, ye ought to be content, and to do nothing rashly;(without advisement)

37. ഈ പുരുഷന്മാരെ നിങ്ങള് കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടുവന്നുവല്ലോ; അവര് ക്ഷേത്രം കവര്ച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നവരല്ല, നമ്മുടെ ദേവിയെ ദുഷിക്കുന്നവരുമല്ല.

37. For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet despisers(blasphemers) of your goddess.

39. വേറെ കാര്യം ചൊല്ലി ആകുന്നു വാദം എങ്കില് ധര്മ്മസഭയില തീര്ക്കാമല്ലോ.

39. If ye go about any other thing, it may be determined in a lawful congregation.

40. ഇന്നത്തെ കലഹത്തിന്നു കാരണമില്ലായ്കയാല് അതു നിമിത്തം നമ്മുടെ പേരില് കുറ്റം ചുമത്തുവാന് ഇടയുണ്ടു സ്പഷ്ടം; ഈ ആള്ക്കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു ഉത്തരം പറവാന് നമുക്കു വക ഒന്നുമില്ലല്ലോ.

40. For we are in jeopardy to be accused of this day's business.(uproar) Forasmuch as there is no cause whereby we may give a reckoning of this concourse of people.(and yet is there no man guilty, of whom we might give a reckoning of this uproar)

41. ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു അവന് സഭയയെ പിരിച്ചുവിട്ടു.

41. And when he had thus spoken, he let the congregation depart.
