1. എന്നാല് നമ്മില് ആരും തന്റെ മകളെ ഒരു ബെന്യാമീന്യന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കരുതു എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്യര് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു ശപഥം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

1. When the Israelites had met at Mizpah before the war with Benjamin, they had made this sacred promise: 'None of us will ever let our daughters marry any man from Benjamin.'

2. ആകയാല് ജനം ബേഥേലില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് സന്ധ്യവരെ ഇരുന്നു ഉച്ചത്തില് മഹാവിലാപം കഴിച്ചു

2. After the war with Benjamin, the Israelites went to the place of worship at Bethel and sat there until sunset. They cried loudly and bitterly

3. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുഗോത്രം ഇല്ലാതെപോകുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം യിസ്രായേലില് ഇങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. and prayed, 'Our LORD, you are the God of Israel. Why did you let this happen? Now one of our tribes is almost gone.'

4. പിറ്റെന്നാള് ജനം അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്പ്പിച്ചു.

4. Early the next morning, the Israelites built an altar and offered sacrifices to please the LORD and to ask his blessing.

5. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലും യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് സഭെക്കു വരാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വരാത്തവന് മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം എന്നു അവര് ഒരു ഉഗ്രശപഥം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

5. Then they asked each other, 'Did any of the tribes of Israel fail to come to the place of worship? We made a sacred promise that anyone who didn't come to the meeting at Mizpah would be put to death.'

6. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു അനുതപിച്ചുഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ഒരു ഗോത്രം അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. The Israelites were sad about what had happened to the Benjamin tribe, and they said, 'One of our tribes was almost wiped out.

7. ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഭാര്യമാരായി കൊടുക്കരുതു എന്നു നാം യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് സത്യംചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരെ കിട്ടുവാന് നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. Only a few men of Benjamin weren't killed in the war. We need to get wives for them, so the tribe won't completely disappear. But how can we do that, after promising in the LORD's name that we wouldn't let them marry any of our daughters?'

8. യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില്നിന്നു മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വരാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു അവര് അന്വേഷിച്ചപ്പോള് ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശില് നിന്നു ആരും പാളയത്തില് സഭെക്കു വന്നിട്ടില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

8. Again the Israelites asked, 'Did any of the tribes stay away from the meeting at Mizpah?' After asking around, they discovered that no one had come from Jabesh in Gilead.

9. ജനത്തെ എണ്ണിനോക്കിയാറെ ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളില് ആരും അവിടെ ഇല്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

10. അപ്പോള് സഭ പരാക്രമശാലികളായ പന്തീരായിരംപേരെ അവിടേക്കു അയച്ചു അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളെ സ്ത്രീകളും പൈതങ്ങളും ഉള്പടെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് കൊല്ലുവിന് .

10. So they sent twelve thousand warriors with these orders: 'Attack Jabesh in Gilead and kill everyone, except the women who have never been married.'

11. അതില് നിങ്ങള് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കേണ്ടതു ഇവ്വണ്ണംസകലപുരുഷന്മാരെയും പുരുഷനോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ച സകലസ്ത്രീകളെയും നിങ്ങള് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കേണം.

12. The warriors attacked Jabesh in Gilead, and returned to their camp in Canaan with four hundred young women.

13. സര്വ്വസഭയും രിമ്മോന് പാറയിലെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു സമാധാനം അറിയിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചു.

13. The Israelites met and sent messengers to the men of Benjamin at Rimmon Rock, telling them that the Israelites were willing to make peace with them.

14. അപ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്യര് മടങ്ങിവന്നു; ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശിലുള്ള സ്ത്രീകളില്വെച്ചു അവര് ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ അവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു;

14. So the men of Benjamin came back from Rimmon Rock, and the Israelites let them marry the young women from Jabesh. But there weren't enough women.

15. അവര്ക്കും അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു തികെഞ്ഞില്ല. യഹോവ യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില് ഒരു ഛേദം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ജനം ബെന്യാമീന്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചു.

15. The Israelites were very sad, because the LORD had almost wiped out one of their tribes.

16. ശേഷിച്ചവര്ക്കും സ്ത്രീകളെ കിട്ടേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു? ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തില്നിന്നു സ്ത്രീകള് അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു സഭയിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് പറഞ്ഞു.

16. Then their national leaders said: All the women of the Benjamin tribe were killed. How can we get wives for the men of Benjamin who are left?

17. യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ഒരു ഗോത്രം നശിച്ചു പോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യരില് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടവര്ക്കും അവരുടെ അവകാശം നില്ക്കേണം.

17. If they don't have children, one of the Israelite tribes will die out.

18. എങ്കിലും നമുക്കു നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ അവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരായി കൊടുത്തുകൂടാ; ബെന്യാമീന്യര്ക്കും സ്ത്രീയെ കൊടുക്കുന്നവന് ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശപഥം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

18. But we can't let the men of Benjamin marry any of our daughters. We made a sacred promise not to do that, and if we break our promise, we will be under our own curse.

19. അപ്പോള് അവര്ബേഥേലിന്നു വടക്കും ബേഥേലില്നിന്നു ശെഖേമിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന പെരുവഴിക്കു കിഴക്കും ലെബോനെക്കു തെക്കും ശീലോവില് ആണ്ടുതോറും യഹോവയുടെ ഉത്സവം ഉണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Then someone suggested, 'What about the LORD's Festival that takes place each year in Shiloh? It's held north of Bethel, south of Lebonah, and just east of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem.'

20. ആകയാല് അവര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളില് പതിയിരിപ്പിന് .

20. The leaders told the men of Benjamin who still did not have wives: Go to Shiloh and hide in the vineyards near the festival.

21. ശീലോവിലെ കന്യകമാര് നിരനിരയായി നൃത്തംചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു വരുന്നതു നിങ്ങള് കാണുമ്പോള് മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് ശീലോവിലെ കന്യകമാരില്നിന്നു ഭാര്യയെ പിടിച്ചു ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. Wait there for the young women of Shiloh to come out and perform their dances. Then rush out and grab one of the young women, then take her home as your wife.

22. അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാരോ ആങ്ങളമാരോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു സങ്കടം പറഞ്ഞാല് ഞങ്ങള് അവരോടുഅവരെ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ദാനം ചെയ്വിന് ; നാം പടയില് അവര്ക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നില്ല; നിങ്ങള് കുറ്റക്കാരാകുവാന് നിങ്ങള് ഇക്കാലത്തു അവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തിട്ടും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കൊള്ളാം.

22. If the fathers or brothers of these women complain about this, we'll say, 'Be kind enough to let those men keep your daughter. After all, we couldn't get enough wives for all the men of Benjamin in the battle at Jabesh. And because you didn't give them permission to marry your daughters, you won't be under the curse we earlier agreed on.

23. ബെന്യാമിന്യര് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തു; നൃത്തംചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളെ തങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം പിടിച്ചു, തങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു പട്ടണങ്ങളെ വീണ്ടും പണിതു അവയില് പാര്ത്തു.

23. The men of Benjamin went to Shiloh and hid in the vineyards. The young women soon started dancing, and each man grabbed one of them and carried her off. Then the men of Benjamin went back to their own land and rebuilt their towns and started living in them again.

24. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളും ആ കാലത്തു അവിടം വിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ഗോത്രത്തിലേക്കും വീട്ടിലേക്കും പോയി; അങ്ങനെ അവര് അവിടം വിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നു.

24. Afterwards, the rest of the Israelites returned to their homes and families.

25. ആ കാലത്തു യിസ്രായേലില് രാജാവില്ലായിരുന്നു; ഔരോരുത്തന് തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ നടന്നു.

25. In those days Israel wasn't ruled by a king, and everyone did what they thought was right.
