1. എന്നാല് നമ്മില് ആരും തന്റെ മകളെ ഒരു ബെന്യാമീന്യന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കരുതു എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്യര് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു ശപഥം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

1. When the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, they had made a solemn promise to the LORD: 'None of us will allow a Benjaminite to marry a daughter of ours.'

2. ആകയാല് ജനം ബേഥേലില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് സന്ധ്യവരെ ഇരുന്നു ഉച്ചത്തില് മഹാവിലാപം കഴിച്ചു

2. So now the people of Israel went to Bethel and sat there in the presence of God until evening. Loudly and bitterly they mourned:

3. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുഗോത്രം ഇല്ലാതെപോകുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം യിസ്രായേലില് ഇങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. ' LORD God of Israel, why has this happened? Why is the tribe of Benjamin about to disappear from Israel?'

4. പിറ്റെന്നാള് ജനം അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്പ്പിച്ചു.

4. Early the next morning the people got up and built an altar there. They offered fellowship sacrifices and burned some sacrifices whole.

5. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലും യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് സഭെക്കു വരാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വരാത്തവന് മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം എന്നു അവര് ഒരു ഉഗ്രശപഥം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

5. They asked, 'Is there any group out of all the tribes of Israel that did not go to the gathering in the LORD's presence at Mizpah?' (They had taken a solemn oath that anyone who had not gone to Mizpah would be put to death.)

6. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു അനുതപിച്ചുഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ഒരു ഗോത്രം അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. The people of Israel felt sorry for their brothers the Benjaminites and said, 'Today Israel has lost one of its tribes.

7. ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഭാര്യമാരായി കൊടുക്കരുതു എന്നു നാം യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് സത്യംചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരെ കിട്ടുവാന് നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. What shall we do to provide wives for the men of Benjamin who are left? We have made a solemn promise to the LORD that we will not give them any of our daughters.'

8. യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില്നിന്നു മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വരാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു അവര് അന്വേഷിച്ചപ്പോള് ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശില് നിന്നു ആരും പാളയത്തില് സഭെക്കു വന്നിട്ടില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

8. When they asked if there was some group out of the tribes of Israel that had not gone to the gathering at Mizpah, they found out that no one from Jabesh in Gilead had been there;

9. ജനത്തെ എണ്ണിനോക്കിയാറെ ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളില് ആരും അവിടെ ഇല്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

9. at the roll call of the army no one from Jabesh had responded.

10. അപ്പോള് സഭ പരാക്രമശാലികളായ പന്തീരായിരംപേരെ അവിടേക്കു അയച്ചു അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളെ സ്ത്രീകളും പൈതങ്ങളും ഉള്പടെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് കൊല്ലുവിന് .

10. So the assembly sent twelve thousand of their bravest men with the orders, 'Go and kill everyone in Jabesh, including women and children.

11. അതില് നിങ്ങള് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കേണ്ടതു ഇവ്വണ്ണംസകലപുരുഷന്മാരെയും പുരുഷനോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ച സകലസ്ത്രീകളെയും നിങ്ങള് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കേണം.

11. Kill all the males, and also every woman who is not a virgin.'

12. അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തതില് ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളുടെ ഇടയില് പുരുഷനുമായി ശയിച്ചു പുരുഷസംസര്ഗ്ഗം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലാത്ത നാനൂറു കന്യകമാരെ കണ്ടെത്തി അവരെ കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ശീലോവില് പാളയത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

12. They found four hundred young virgins among the people in Jabesh, so they brought them to the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

13. സര്വ്വസഭയും രിമ്മോന് പാറയിലെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു സമാധാനം അറിയിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചു.

13. Then the whole assembly sent word to the Benjaminites who were at Rimmon Rock and offered to end the war.

14. അപ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്യര് മടങ്ങിവന്നു; ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശിലുള്ള സ്ത്രീകളില്വെച്ചു അവര് ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ അവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു;

14. The Benjaminites came back, and the other Israelites gave them the young women from Jabesh whom they had not killed. But there were not enough of them.

15. അവര്ക്കും അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു തികെഞ്ഞില്ല. യഹോവ യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില് ഒരു ഛേദം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ജനം ബെന്യാമീന്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചു.

15. The people felt sorry for the Benjaminites because the LORD had broken the unity of the tribes of Israel.

16. ശേഷിച്ചവര്ക്കും സ്ത്രീകളെ കിട്ടേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു? ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തില്നിന്നു സ്ത്രീകള് അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു സഭയിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് പറഞ്ഞു.

16. So the leaders of the gathering said, 'There are no more women in the tribe of Benjamin. What shall we do to provide wives for the men who are left?

17. യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ഒരു ഗോത്രം നശിച്ചു പോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യരില് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടവര്ക്കും അവരുടെ അവകാശം നില്ക്കേണം.

17. Israel must not lose one of its twelve tribes. We must find a way for the tribe of Benjamin to survive,

18. എങ്കിലും നമുക്കു നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ അവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരായി കൊടുത്തുകൂടാ; ബെന്യാമീന്യര്ക്കും സ്ത്രീയെ കൊടുക്കുന്നവന് ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശപഥം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

18. but we cannot allow them to marry our daughters, because we have put a curse on anyone who allows a Benjaminite to marry one of our daughters.'

19. അപ്പോള് അവര്ബേഥേലിന്നു വടക്കും ബേഥേലില്നിന്നു ശെഖേമിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന പെരുവഴിക്കു കിഴക്കും ലെബോനെക്കു തെക്കും ശീലോവില് ആണ്ടുതോറും യഹോവയുടെ ഉത്സവം ഉണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Then they thought, 'The yearly festival of the LORD at Shiloh is coming soon.' (Shiloh is north of Bethel, south of Lebonah, and east of the road between Bethel and Shechem.)

20. ആകയാല് അവര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളില് പതിയിരിപ്പിന് .

20. They told the Benjaminites, 'Go and hide in the vineyards

21. ശീലോവിലെ കന്യകമാര് നിരനിരയായി നൃത്തംചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു വരുന്നതു നിങ്ങള് കാണുമ്പോള് മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് ശീലോവിലെ കന്യകമാരില്നിന്നു ഭാര്യയെ പിടിച്ചു ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. and watch. When the young women of Shiloh come out to dance during the festival, you come out of the vineyards. Each of you take a wife by force from among them and take her back to the territory of Benjamin with you.

22. അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാരോ ആങ്ങളമാരോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു സങ്കടം പറഞ്ഞാല് ഞങ്ങള് അവരോടുഅവരെ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ദാനം ചെയ്വിന് ; നാം പടയില് അവര്ക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നില്ല; നിങ്ങള് കുറ്റക്കാരാകുവാന് നിങ്ങള് ഇക്കാലത്തു അവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തിട്ടും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കൊള്ളാം.

22. If their fathers or brothers come to you and protest, you can tell them, 'Please let us keep them, because we did not take them from you in battle to be our wives. And since you did not give them to us, you are not guilty of breaking your promise.' '

23. ബെന്യാമിന്യര് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തു; നൃത്തംചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളെ തങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം പിടിച്ചു, തങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു പട്ടണങ്ങളെ വീണ്ടും പണിതു അവയില് പാര്ത്തു.

23. The Benjaminites did this; each of them chose a wife from the young women who were dancing at Shiloh and carried her away. Then they went back to their own territory, rebuilt their towns, and lived there.

24. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളും ആ കാലത്തു അവിടം വിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ഗോത്രത്തിലേക്കും വീട്ടിലേക്കും പോയി; അങ്ങനെ അവര് അവിടം വിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നു.

24. At the same time the rest of the Israelites left, and every man went back to his own tribe and family and to his own property.

25. ആ കാലത്തു യിസ്രായേലില് രാജാവില്ലായിരുന്നു; ഔരോരുത്തന് തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ നടന്നു.

25. There was no king in Israel at that time. Everyone did whatever they pleased.
