1. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനോടും പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങള് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതില് ഒക്കെയും ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു, നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരു രാജാവിനെയും വാഴിച്ചുതന്നു.

1. Sh'mu'el said to all Isra'el, 'Here, I have done everything you asked me to do- I have made a king over you.

2. ഇപ്പോള് രാജാവു നിങ്ങളുടെ നായകനായിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാനോ വൃദ്ധനും നരച്ചവനുമായി; എന്റെ മക്കള് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു; എന്റെ ബാല്യം മുതല് ഇന്നുവരെയും ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു നായകനായിരുന്നു.

2. There is the king, walking ahead of you; but I am old and gray-headed. There are my sons with you, and I have walked at your head from when I was a boy until today.

3. ഞാന് ഇതാ, ഇവിടെ നിലക്കുന്നുഞാന് ഒരുത്തന്റെ കാളയെ അപഹരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ? ഒരുത്തന്റെ കഴുതയെ അപഹരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ? ഞാന് വല്ലവനെയും ചതിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ? വല്ലവനെയും പീഡിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ? ഞാന് വല്ലവന്റെയും കയ്യില്നിന്നു കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങി എന്റെ കണ്ണു കുരുടാക്കീട്ടുണ്ടോ? യഹോവയുടെയും അവന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ എന്റെ നേരെ സാക്ഷീകരിപ്പിന് ; ഞാന് അതു മടക്കിത്തരാം.

3. So here I am; now is the time to witness against me before ADONAI and before his anointed king. Does any of you think I have taken your ox or donkey, defrauded or oppressed you, or accepted a bribe to deprive you of justice? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.'

4. അതിന്നു അവര്നീ ഞങ്ങളെ ചതിക്കയോ പീഡിപ്പിക്കയോ യാതൊരുത്തന്റെയും കയ്യില്നിന്നു വല്ലതും അപഹരിക്കയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. They answered, 'You haven't defrauded or oppressed us, and you have accepted nothing from anyone.'

5. അവന് പിന്നെയും അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്റെ പേരില് ഒന്നും കണ്ടില്ല എന്നുള്ളതിന്നു യഹോവ സാക്ഷി; അവന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തനും ഇന്നു സാക്ഷി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. He said, 'ADONAI is witness against you, and his anointed king is witness against you today, that you have found nothing in my hands?' They replied, 'He is witness.'

6. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്മോശെയെയും അഹരോനെയും കല്പിച്ചാക്കുകയും നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെ മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവരികയും ചെയ്തവന് യഹോവ തന്നേ.

6. Sh'mu'el said to the people, 'It was ADONAI who appointed Moshe and Aharon and who brought your ancestors up from the land of Egypt.

7. ആകയാല് ഇപ്പോള് ഒത്തുനില്പിന് ; യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കും നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള സകലനീതികളെയും കുറിച്ചു ഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നിങ്ങളോടു വ്യവഹരിക്കും.

7. Now, hold still; because I am going to enter into judgment with you before ADONAI regarding all the righteous acts of ADONAI that he did for you and your ancestors.

8. യാക്കോബ് മിസ്രയീമില്ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു; അവിടെവെച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോള് യഹോവ മോശെയെയും അഹരോനെയും അയച്ചു; അവര് നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെ മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഈ സ്ഥലത്തു പാര്ക്കുംമാറാക്കി.

8. After Ya'akov had entered Egypt, your ancestors cried to ADONAI; and ADONAI sent Moshe and Aharon, who brought your ancestors out of Egypt and had them live here in this place.

9. But they forgot ADONAI their God; so he handed them over to Sisra, commander of the army of Hatzor, and to the P'lishtim, and to the king of Mo'av; and they fought against them.

10. അപ്പോള് അവര് യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചുഞങ്ങള് യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും സേവിച്ചു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് ഞങ്ങളെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ; എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ സേവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. But they cried to ADONAI and said, 'We sinned by abandoning ADONAI and serving the [ba'alim] and ['ashtarot.] But now, if you rescue us from the power of our enemies, we will serve you.'

11. എന്നാറെ യഹോവ യെരുബ്ബാല്, ബെദാന് , യിഫ്താഹ്, ശമൂവേല് എന്നിവരെ അയച്ചു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു നിങ്ങളെ വിടുവിച്ചു; നിങ്ങള് നിര്ഭയമായി വസിച്ചു.

11. So ADONAI sent Yeruba'al, B'dan, Yiftach and Sh'mu'el and rescued you from the power of our enemies on every side, and you lived securely.

12. പിന്നെ അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവായ നാഹാശ് നിങ്ങളുടെ നേരെ വരുന്നതു നിങ്ങള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു രാജാവായിരിക്കെ നിങ്ങള് എന്നോടുഒരു രാജാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേല് വാഴേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. When you saw that Nachash the king of the people of 'Amon was attacking you, you said to me, 'No, we want a king to rule over us'- when ADONAI your God was your king.

13. ഇപ്പോള് ഇതാ, നിങ്ങള് തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തവനും ആഗ്രഹിച്ചവനുമായ രാജാവു; യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരു രാജാവിനെ കല്പിച്ചാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. Now, here's the king you have chosen, the one you asked for. See, ADONAI has put a king over you.

14. നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനയെ മറുക്കാതെ യഹോവയെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവനെ സേവിച്ചു അവന്റെ വാക്കു അനുസരിക്കയും നിങ്ങളും നിങ്ങളെ വാഴുന്ന രാജാവും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു ചേര്ന്നിരിക്കയും ചെയ്താല് കൊള്ളാം.

14. If you will fear ADONAI, serve him, obey what he says and not rebel against ADONAI's orders- if both you and the king ruling you remain followers of ADONAI your God- [[then things will go well for you.]]

15. എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിക്കാതെ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനയെ മറുത്താല് യഹോവയുടെ കൈ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും വിരോധമായിരുന്നതുപോലെ നിങ്ങള്ക്കും വിരോധമായിരിക്കും.

15. But if you refuse to obey what ADONAI says and rebel against ADONAI's orders, then ADONAI will oppress both you and your leaders.

16. ആകയാല് ഇപ്പോള് നിന്നു യഹോവ നിങ്ങള് കാണ്കെ ചെയ്വാന് പോകുന്ന ഈ വലിയ കാര്യം കണ്ടുകൊള്വിന് .

16. 'Now therefore, hold still; and see the great deed which ADONAI will perform before your very eyes.

17. ഇതു കോതമ്പുകൊയ്ത്തിന്റെ കാലമല്ലോ; ഞാന് യഹോവയോടു അപേക്ഷിക്കും; അവന് ഇടിയും മഴയും അയക്കും; നിങ്ങള് ഒരു രാജാവിനെ ചോദിക്കയാല് യഹോവയോടു ചെയ്ത ദോഷം എത്ര വലിയതെന്നു നിങ്ങള് അതിനാല് കണ്ടറിയും.

17. Now is wheat harvest time, isn't it? I am going to call on ADONAI to send thunder and rain. Then you will understand and see how wicked from ADONAI's viewpoint is the thing you have done in asking for a king.'

18. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് യഹോവയോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; യഹോവ അന്നു ഇടിയും മഴയും അയച്ചു; ജനമെല്ലാം യഹോവയെയും ശമൂവേലിനെയും ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

18. Sh'mu'el called to ADONAI, and ADONAI sent thunder and rain that day. Then all the people became very much afraid of ADONAI and Sh'mu'el.

19. ജനമെല്ലാം ശമൂവേലിനോടുഅടിയങ്ങള്ക്കു വേണ്ടി നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കേണമേ; ഞങ്ങള് മരിച്ചുപോകരുതേ; ഒരു രാജാവിനെ അപേക്ഷിച്ചതില് ഞങ്ങളുടെ സകലപാപങ്ങളോടും ഞങ്ങള് ഈ ഒരു ദോഷവും കൂട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. All the people said to Sh'mu'el, 'Pray to ADONAI your God for your servants, so that we won't die; because to all our other sins now we've added this evil as well, asking for a king over us.'

20. ശമൂവേല് ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഭയപ്പെടായ്വിന് ; നിങ്ങള് ഈ ദോഷമൊക്കെയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും യഹോവയെ വിട്ടുമാറാതെ പൂര്ണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടെ യഹോവയെ സേവിപ്പിന് .

20. Sh'mu'el answered the people, 'Don't be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet now, just don't turn away from following ADONAI; but serve ADONAI with all your heart.

21. വിട്ടുമാറി, ഉപകാരമില്ലാത്തവയും രക്ഷിപ്പാന് കഴിയാത്തവയുമായ മിത്ഥ്യാമൂര്ത്തികളോടു നിങ്ങള് ചേരരുതു; അവ മിത്ഥ്യാവസ്തു തന്നേയല്ലോ.

21. Don't turn to the side; because then you would go after useless things that can neither help nor rescue, they are so futile.

22. യഹോവ തന്റെ മഹത്തായ നാമംനിമിത്തം തന്റെ ജനത്തെ കൈവിടുകയില്ല; നിങ്ങളെ തന്റെ ജനമാക്കിക്കൊള്വാന് യഹോവേക്കു ഇഷ്ടം തോന്നിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. For the sake of his great reputation, ADONAI will not abandon his people; because it has pleased ADONAI to make you a people for himself.

23. ഞാനോ നിങ്ങള്ക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നതിനാല് യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്വാന് ഇടവരരുതേ; ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു നല്ലതും ചൊവ്വുള്ളതുമായ വഴി ഉപദേശിക്കും.

23. As for me, far be it from me to sin against ADONAI by ceasing to pray for you! Rather, I will continue instructing you in the good and right way.

24. യഹോവയെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു പൂര്ണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടും പരമാര്ത്ഥതയോടുംകൂടെ സേവിക്കമാത്രം ചെയ്വിന് ; അവന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എത്ര വലിയ കാര്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഔര്ത്തുകൊള്വിന് .

24. Only fear ADONAI, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for think what great things he has done for you!

25. എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് ഇനിയും ദോഷം ചെയ്താല് നിങ്ങളും നിങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവും നശിച്ചുപോകും.

25. However, if you insist on doing wicked things, you will be swept away- both you and your king!'
