1. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്യഹോവ നിന്നെ തന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകംചെയ്വാന് എന്നെ നിയോഗിച്ചുവല്ലോ; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഇപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ കേട്ടുകൊള്ക.

1. One day, Samuel told Saul: The LORD had me choose you to be king of his people, Israel. Now listen to this message from the LORD:

2. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുയിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോള് വഴിയില്വെച്ചു അമാലേക് അവരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു അവരോടു ചെയ്തതിനെ ഞാന് കുറിച്ചുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. When the Israelites were on their way out of Egypt, the nation of Amalek attacked them. I am the LORD All-Powerful, and now I am going to make Amalek pay!

3. ആകയാല് നീ ചെന്നു അമാലേക്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചു അവര്ക്കുംള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളക; അവരോടു കനിവു തോന്നരുതു; പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുട്ടികളെയും മുലകുടിക്കുന്നവരെയും കാള, ആടു, ഒട്ടകം, കഴുത എന്നിവയെയും സംഹരിച്ചുകളക.

3. Go and attack the Amalekites! Destroy them and all their possessions. Don't have any pity. Kill their men, women, children, and even their babies. Slaughter their cattle, sheep, camels, and donkeys.'

4. എന്നാറെ ശൌല് ജനത്തെ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി തെലായീമില് വെച്ചു അവരെ എണ്ണി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രക്കാരായ പതിനായിരം പേര് ഒഴികെ രണ്ടുലക്ഷം കാലാള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

4. Saul sent messengers who told every town and village to send men to join the army at Telaim. There were two hundred ten thousand troops in all, and ten thousand of these were from Judah. Saul organized them,

5. then led them to a valley near one of the towns in Amalek, where they got ready to make a surprise attack.

6. Some Kenites lived nearby, and Saul told them, 'Your people were kind to our nation when we left Egypt, and I don't want you to get killed when I wipe out the Amalekites. Leave here and stay away from them.' The Kenites left,

7. and Saul attacked the Amalekites from Havilah to Shur, which is just east of Egypt.

8. Every Amalekite was killed except King Agag.

9. എന്നാല് ശൌലും ജനവും ആഗാഗിനെയും ആടു, മാടു, തടിച്ചമൃഗം എന്നിവയില് മേത്തരമായവയെയും കുഞ്ഞാടുകളെയും ഉത്തമമായവയെ ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കുവാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ ജീവനോടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ഹീനവും നിസ്സാരവുമായവയെ ഒക്കെയും അവര് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

9. Saul and his army let Agag live, and they also spared the best sheep and cattle. They didn't want to destroy anything of value, so they only killed the animals that were worthless or weak.

10. അപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ശമൂവേലിന്നുണ്ടായതു എന്തെന്നാല്

10. The LORD told Samuel,

11. ഞാന് ശൌലിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിച്ചതിനാല് എനിക്കു മനസ്താപമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്നെ വിട്ടുമാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നിവൃത്തിച്ചതുമില്ല. ഇതിങ്കല് ശമൂവേലിന്നു വ്യസനമായി; അവന് രാത്രി മുഴുവനും യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

11. 'Saul has stopped obeying me, and I'm sorry that I made him king.' Samuel was angry, and he cried out in prayer to the LORD all night.

12. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെ എതിരേല്പാന് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് ശൌല് കര്മ്മേലില് എത്തിയെന്നും ഒരു ജ്ഞാപകസ്തംഭം നാട്ടി ഘോഷയാത്ര കഴിച്ചു തിരിഞ്ഞു ഗില്ഗാലിലേക്കു പോയി എന്നും ശമൂവേലിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

12. Early the next morning he went to talk with Saul. Someone told him, 'Saul went to Carmel, where he had a monument built so everyone would remember his victory. Then he left for Gilgal.'

13. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ശൌല് അവനോടുയഹോവയാല് നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് ; ഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന നിവര്ത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Samuel finally caught up with Saul, and Saul told him, 'I hope the LORD will bless you! I have done what the LORD told me.'

14. അതിന്നു ശമൂവേല്എന്റെ ചെവിയില് എത്തുന്ന ആടുകളുടെ ഈ കരച്ചലും ഞാന് കേള്ക്കുന്ന കാളകളുടെ മുക്കുറയും എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

14. Then why,' Samuel asked, 'do I hear sheep and cattle?'

15. അവയെ അമാലേക്യരുടെ പക്കല്നിന്നു അവര് കൊണ്ടുവന്നതാകുന്നു; ജനം ആടുകളിലും കാളകളിലും മേത്തരമായവയെ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു യാഗംകഴിപ്പാന് ജീവനോടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ശേഷമുള്ളവയെ ഞങ്ങള് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു എന്നു ശൌല് പറഞ്ഞു.

15. The army took them from the Amalekites,' Saul explained. 'They kept the best sheep and cattle, so they could sacrifice them to the LORD your God. But we destroyed everything else.'

16. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുനില്ക്ക; യഹോവ ഈ കഴിഞ്ഞ രാത്രി എന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു ഞാന് നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് അവനോടുപറഞ്ഞാലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. Stop!' Samuel said. 'Let me tell you what the LORD told me last night.' 'All right,' Saul answered.

17. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞതുനിന്റെ സ്വന്തകാഴ്ചയില് നീ ചെറിയവനായിരുന്നിട്ടും യഹോവ നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല് ഗോത്രങ്ങള്ക്കു തലവനാക്കുകയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജാവായി നിന്നെ അഭിഷേകം കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്തില്ലയോ?

17. Samuel continued, 'You may not think you're very important, but the LORD chose you to be king, and you are in charge of the tribes of Israel.

18. പിന്നെ യഹോവ നിന്നെ ഒരു വഴിക്കു അയച്ചുനീ ചെന്നു അമാലേക്യരായ പാപികളെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കുകയും അവര് നശിക്കുംവരെ അവരോടു പൊരുതുകയും ചെയ്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

18. When the LORD sent you on this mission, he told you to wipe out those worthless Amalekites.

19. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കാതെ കൊള്ളെക്കു ചാടി യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായതു ചെയ്തതെന്തു?

19. Why didn't you listen to the LORD? Why did you keep the animals and make him angry?'

20. ശൌല് ശമൂവേലിനോടുഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിച്ചു യഹോവ എന്നെ അയച്ചവഴിക്കു പോയി അമാലേക്രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അമാലേക്യരെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

20. But I did listen to the LORD!' Saul answered. 'He sent me on a mission, and I went. I captured King Agag and destroyed his nation.

21. എന്നാല് ജനം ശപഥാര്പ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളില് വിശേഷമായ ആടുമാടുകളെ കൊള്ളയില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു ഗില്ഗാലില് നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. All the animals were going to be destroyed anyway. That's why the army brought the best sheep and cattle to Gilgal as sacrifices to the LORD your God.'

22. ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞതുയഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളും യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമാകുമോ? ഇതാ, അനുസരിക്കുന്നതു യാഗത്തെക്കാളും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നതു മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ മേദസ്സിനെക്കാളും നല്ലതു.

22. Tell me,' Samuel said. 'Does the LORD really want sacrifices and offerings? No! He doesn't want your sacrifices. He wants you to obey him.

23. Rebelling against God or disobeying him because you are proud is just as bad as worshiping idols or asking them for advice. You refused to do what God told you, so God has decided that you can't be king.'

24. ശൌല് ശമൂവേലിനോടുഞാന് ജനത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവരുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചതിനാല് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനയും നിന്റെ വാക്കും ലംഘിച്ചു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

24. I have sinned,' Saul admitted. 'I disobeyed both you and the LORD. I was afraid of the army, and I listened to them instead.

25. എങ്കിലും എന്റെ പാപം ക്ഷമിച്ചു ഞാന് യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. Please forgive me and come back with me so I can worship the LORD.'

26. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുഞാന് പോരികയില്ല; നീ യഹോവയുടെ വചനത്തെ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ നിന്നെയും യിസ്രായേലിലെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്തുനിന്നു തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

26. No!' Samuel replied, 'You disobeyed the LORD, and I won't go back with you. Now the LORD has said that you can't be king of Israel any longer.'

27. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് പോകുവാന് തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവന് അവന്റെ നിലയങ്കിയുടെ വിളുമ്പു പിടിച്ചു വലിച്ചു; അതു കീറിപ്പോയി.

27. As Samuel turned to go, Saul grabbed the edge of Samuel's robe. It tore!

28. ശമൂവേല് അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജത്വം നിങ്കല് നിന്നു കീറി നിന്നെക്കാള് ഉത്തമനായ നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. Samuel said, 'The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel away from you today, and he will give it to someone who is better than you.

29. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വമായവന് ഭോഷകു പറകയില്ല, അനുതപിക്കയുമില്ല; അനുതപിപ്പാന് അവന് മനുഷ്യനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. Besides, the eternal God of Israel isn't a human being. He doesn't tell lies or change his mind.'

30. അപ്പോള് അവന് ഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ ഇപ്പോള് എന്നെ മാനിച്ചു, ഞാന് നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു കൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

30. Saul said, 'I did sin, but please honor me in front of the leaders of the army and the people of Israel. Come back with me, so I can worship the LORD your God.'

31. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു; ശൌല് യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

31. Samuel followed Saul back, and Saul worshiped the LORD.

32. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല്അമാലേക്രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ഇവിടെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ആഗാഗ് സന്തോഷഭാവത്തോടെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുമരണഭീതി നീങ്ങപ്പോയി എന്നു ആഗാഗ് പറഞ്ഞു.

32. Then Samuel shouted, 'Bring me King Agag of Amalek!' Agag came in chains, and he was saying to himself, 'Surely they won't kill me now.'

33. നിന്റെ വാള് സ്ത്രീകളെ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവരാക്കിയതുപോലെ നിന്റെ അമ്മയും സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ഇടയില് മക്കളില്ലാത്തവളാകും എന്നു ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞു, ഗില്ഗാലില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ആഗാഗിനെ തുണ്ടംതുണ്ടമായി വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

33. But Samuel said, 'Agag, you have snatched children from their mothers' arms and killed them. Now your mother will be without children.' Then Samuel chopped Agag to pieces at the place of worship in Gilgal.

34. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി; ശൌലും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗിബെയയില് അരമനയിലേക്കു പോയി.

34. Samuel went home to Ramah, and Saul returned to his home in Gibeah.

35. ശമൂവേല് ജീവപര്യന്തം ശൌലിനെ പിന്നെ കണ്ടില്ല; എങ്കിലും ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചു; യഹോവയും താന് ശൌലിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു അനുതപിച്ചു.

35. Even though Samuel felt sad about Saul, Samuel never saw him again. The LORD was sorry he had made Saul the king of Israel.
