1. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്യഹോവ നിന്നെ തന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകംചെയ്വാന് എന്നെ നിയോഗിച്ചുവല്ലോ; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഇപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ കേട്ടുകൊള്ക.

1. Sh'mu'el said to Sha'ul, 'ADONAI sent me to anoint you king over his people, over Isra'el. Now listen to what ADONAI has to say.

2. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുയിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോള് വഴിയില്വെച്ചു അമാലേക് അവരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു അവരോടു ചെയ്തതിനെ ഞാന് കുറിച്ചുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. Here is what [ADONAI-Tzva'ot] says: 'I remember what 'Amalek did to Isra'el, how they fought against Isra'el when they were coming up from Egypt.

3. ആകയാല് നീ ചെന്നു അമാലേക്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചു അവര്ക്കുംള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളക; അവരോടു കനിവു തോന്നരുതു; പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുട്ടികളെയും മുലകുടിക്കുന്നവരെയും കാള, ആടു, ഒട്ടകം, കഴുത എന്നിവയെയും സംഹരിച്ചുകളക.

3. Now go and attack 'Amalek, and completely destroy everything they have. Don't spare them, but kill men and women, children and babies, cows and sheep, camels and donkeys.''

4. എന്നാറെ ശൌല് ജനത്തെ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി തെലായീമില് വെച്ചു അവരെ എണ്ണി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രക്കാരായ പതിനായിരം പേര് ഒഴികെ രണ്ടുലക്ഷം കാലാള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

4. Sha'ul summoned the people and reviewed them in T'la'im- 200,000 foot soldiers, with another 10,000 men from Y'hudah.

5. പിന്നെ ശൌല് അമാലേക്യരുടെ പ്രധാന നഗരംവരെ ചെന്നു തോട്ടിന്നരികെ പതിയിരിപ്പാക്കി.

5. Sha'ul arrived at the city of 'Amalek and lay in wait in the valley.

6. എന്നാല് ശൌല് കേന്യരോടുഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ അമാലേക്യരോടുകൂടെ നശിപ്പിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോകുവിന് ; യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നപ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് അവര്ക്കും ദയചെയ്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ കേന്യര് അമാലേക്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.

6. Sha'ul said to the Keni, 'Go away, withdraw, leave your homes there with the 'Amaleki. Otherwise, I might destroy you along with them, even though you were kind to all the people of Isra'el when they came out of Egypt. So the Keni went away from among the 'Amaleki.

7. പിന്നെ ശൌല് ഹവീലാമുതല് മിസ്രയീമിന്നു കിഴക്കുള്ള ശൂര്വരെ അമാലേക്യരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

7. Then Sha'ul attacked 'Amalek, starting at Havilah and continuing toward Shur, at the border of Egypt.

8. അമാലേക്യരുടെ രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ജീവനോടെ പിടിച്ചു, ജനങ്ങളെ ഒക്കെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കി.

8. He took Agag the king of 'Amalek alive; but he completely destroyed the people, putting them to the sword.

9. എന്നാല് ശൌലും ജനവും ആഗാഗിനെയും ആടു, മാടു, തടിച്ചമൃഗം എന്നിവയില് മേത്തരമായവയെയും കുഞ്ഞാടുകളെയും ഉത്തമമായവയെ ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കുവാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ ജീവനോടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ഹീനവും നിസ്സാരവുമായവയെ ഒക്കെയും അവര് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

9. However, Sha'ul and the people spared Agag, along with the best of the sheep and cattle, and even the second best, also the lambs, and everything that was good- they weren't inclined to destroy these things. But everything that was worthless or weak they completely destroyed.

10. അപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ശമൂവേലിന്നുണ്ടായതു എന്തെന്നാല്

10. Then the word of ADONAI came to Sh'mu'el:

11. ഞാന് ശൌലിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിച്ചതിനാല് എനിക്കു മനസ്താപമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്നെ വിട്ടുമാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നിവൃത്തിച്ചതുമില്ല. ഇതിങ്കല് ശമൂവേലിന്നു വ്യസനമായി; അവന് രാത്രി മുഴുവനും യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

11. I regret setting up Sha'ul as king, because he has turned back from following me and hasn't obeyed my orders.' This made Sh'mu'el very sad, so that he cried to ADONAI all night.

12. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെ എതിരേല്പാന് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് ശൌല് കര്മ്മേലില് എത്തിയെന്നും ഒരു ജ്ഞാപകസ്തംഭം നാട്ടി ഘോഷയാത്ര കഴിച്ചു തിരിഞ്ഞു ഗില്ഗാലിലേക്കു പോയി എന്നും ശമൂവേലിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

12. Sh'mu'el got up early in the morning to meet Sha'ul; however, Sh'mu'el was told, 'Sha'ul came to Karmel to set up a monument for himself there, but now he has left and is on his way down to Gilgal.'

13. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ശൌല് അവനോടുയഹോവയാല് നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് ; ഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന നിവര്ത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Sh'mu'el went to Sha'ul; Sha'ul said to him, 'May ADONAI bless you! I have done what ADONAI ordered.'

14. അതിന്നു ശമൂവേല്എന്റെ ചെവിയില് എത്തുന്ന ആടുകളുടെ ഈ കരച്ചലും ഞാന് കേള്ക്കുന്ന കാളകളുടെ മുക്കുറയും എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

14. But Sh'mu'el answered, 'If so, why do I hear sheep bleating and cows mooing?'

15. അവയെ അമാലേക്യരുടെ പക്കല്നിന്നു അവര് കൊണ്ടുവന്നതാകുന്നു; ജനം ആടുകളിലും കാളകളിലും മേത്തരമായവയെ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു യാഗംകഴിപ്പാന് ജീവനോടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ശേഷമുള്ളവയെ ഞങ്ങള് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു എന്നു ശൌല് പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Sha'ul said, 'They brought them from the 'Amaleki, because the people spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to ADONAI your God. But we completely destroyed the rest.'

16. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുനില്ക്ക; യഹോവ ഈ കഴിഞ്ഞ രാത്രി എന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു ഞാന് നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് അവനോടുപറഞ്ഞാലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. Then Sh'mu'el said to Sha'ul, 'Stop! I'm going to tell you what ADONAI said to me last night.' He said, 'Speak.'

17. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞതുനിന്റെ സ്വന്തകാഴ്ചയില് നീ ചെറിയവനായിരുന്നിട്ടും യഹോവ നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല് ഗോത്രങ്ങള്ക്കു തലവനാക്കുകയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജാവായി നിന്നെ അഭിഷേകം കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്തില്ലയോ?

17. Sh'mu'el then said, 'You may be small in your own sight, but you are head of the tribes of Isra'el- ADONAI anointed you king over Isra'el!

18. പിന്നെ യഹോവ നിന്നെ ഒരു വഴിക്കു അയച്ചുനീ ചെന്നു അമാലേക്യരായ പാപികളെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കുകയും അവര് നശിക്കുംവരെ അവരോടു പൊരുതുകയും ചെയ്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

18. Now ADONAI sent you on a mission and told you, 'Go and completely destroy 'Amalek, those sinners; keep making war on them until they have been exterminated.

19. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കാതെ കൊള്ളെക്കു ചാടി യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായതു ചെയ്തതെന്തു?

19. Why did you seize the spoil instead of paying attention to what ADONAI said? From ADONAI's viewpoint, you have done an evil thing.'

20. ശൌല് ശമൂവേലിനോടുഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിച്ചു യഹോവ എന്നെ അയച്ചവഴിക്കു പോയി അമാലേക്രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അമാലേക്യരെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

20. Sha'ul said to Sh'mu'el, 'I did too pay attention to what ADONAI said, and I carried out the mission on which ADONAI sent me. I brought back Agag the king of 'Amalek, and I completely destroyed 'Amalek.

21. എന്നാല് ജനം ശപഥാര്പ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളില് വിശേഷമായ ആടുമാടുകളെ കൊള്ളയില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു ഗില്ഗാലില് നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. But the people took some of the spoil, the best of the sheep and cattle set aside for destruction, to sacrifice to ADONAI your God in Gilgal.'

22. ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞതുയഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളും യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമാകുമോ? ഇതാ, അനുസരിക്കുന്നതു യാഗത്തെക്കാളും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നതു മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ മേദസ്സിനെക്കാളും നല്ലതു.

22. Sh'mu'el said, 'Does ADONAI take as much pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying what ADONAI says? Surely obeying is better than sacrifice, and heeding orders than the fat of rams.

23. മത്സരം ആഭിചാരദോഷംപോലെയും ശാഠ്യം മിത്ഥ്യാപൂജയും വിഗ്രഹാരാധനയും പോലെയും ആകുന്നു; നീ യഹോവയുടെ വചനത്തെ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് നിന്നെയും രാജസ്ഥാനത്തില്നിന്നു തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

23. 'For rebellion is like the sin of sorcery, stubbornness like the crime of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of ADONAI, he too has rejected you as king.'

24. ശൌല് ശമൂവേലിനോടുഞാന് ജനത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവരുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചതിനാല് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനയും നിന്റെ വാക്കും ലംഘിച്ചു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

24. Sha'ul said to Sh'mu'el, 'I have sinned. I violated the order of ADONAI and your words too, because I was afraid of the people and listened to what they said.

25. എങ്കിലും എന്റെ പാപം ക്ഷമിച്ചു ഞാന് യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. Now, please, pardon my sin; and come back with me, so that I can worship ADONAI.'

26. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുഞാന് പോരികയില്ല; നീ യഹോവയുടെ വചനത്തെ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ നിന്നെയും യിസ്രായേലിലെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്തുനിന്നു തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

26. But Sh'mu'el said to Sha'ul, 'I will not go back with you, because you have rejected the word of ADONAI, and ADONAI has rejected you as king over Isra'el.'

27. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് പോകുവാന് തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവന് അവന്റെ നിലയങ്കിയുടെ വിളുമ്പു പിടിച്ചു വലിച്ചു; അതു കീറിപ്പോയി.

27. As Sh'mu'el was turning around to leave, he took hold of the hem of his cloak, and it tore.

28. ശമൂവേല് അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജത്വം നിങ്കല് നിന്നു കീറി നിന്നെക്കാള് ഉത്തമനായ നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. Sh'mu'el said to him, 'ADONAI has torn the kingdom of Isra'el away from you today and given it to a fellow countryman of yours who is better than you.

29. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വമായവന് ഭോഷകു പറകയില്ല, അനുതപിക്കയുമില്ല; അനുതപിപ്പാന് അവന് മനുഷ്യനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. Moreover, the Eternal One of Isra'el will not lie or change his mind, because he isn't a mere human being subject to changing his mind.'

30. അപ്പോള് അവന് ഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ ഇപ്പോള് എന്നെ മാനിച്ചു, ഞാന് നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു കൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

30. Then Sha'ul said, 'I have sinned; but in spite of that, please show me respect now before the leaders of my people and before Isra'el by coming back with me, so that I can worship ADONAI your God.'

31. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു; ശൌല് യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

31. So Sh'mu'el followed Sha'ul back, and Sha'ul worshipped ADONAI.

32. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല്അമാലേക്രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ഇവിടെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ആഗാഗ് സന്തോഷഭാവത്തോടെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുമരണഭീതി നീങ്ങപ്പോയി എന്നു ആഗാഗ് പറഞ്ഞു.

32. Then Sh'mu'el said, 'Bring Agag the king of 'Amalek here to me. Agag came to him in chains and said, 'Without doubt, mine will be a bitter death.'

33. നിന്റെ വാള് സ്ത്രീകളെ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവരാക്കിയതുപോലെ നിന്റെ അമ്മയും സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ഇടയില് മക്കളില്ലാത്തവളാകും എന്നു ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞു, ഗില്ഗാലില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ആഗാഗിനെ തുണ്ടംതുണ്ടമായി വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

33. Sh'mu'el said, 'Just as your sword has left women childless, so will your mother be left childless among women.' Then Sh'mu'el cut Agag in pieces before ADONAI in Gilgal.

34. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി; ശൌലും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗിബെയയില് അരമനയിലേക്കു പോയി.

34. Sh'mu'el returned to Ramah, and Sha'ul went up to his house in Giv'at-Sha'ul.

35. ശമൂവേല് ജീവപര്യന്തം ശൌലിനെ പിന്നെ കണ്ടില്ല; എങ്കിലും ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചു; യഹോവയും താന് ശൌലിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു അനുതപിച്ചു.

35. Never again did Sh'mu'el see Sha'ul, until the day he died. But Sh'mu'el grieved over Sha'ul, and ADONAI regretted that he had made Sha'ul king over Isra'el.
