1. അനന്തരം യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടുയിസ്രായേലിലെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്തില്നിന്നു ഞാന് ശൌലിനെ തള്ളിയെന്നറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കെ നീ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു എത്രത്തോളം ദുഃഖിക്കും? കൊമ്പില് തൈലം നിറെച്ചു പുറപ്പെടുക; ഞാന് നിന്നെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കും; അവന്റെ മക്കളില് ഞാന് ഒരു രാജാവിനെ കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

1. Now the LORD said to Samuel, 'How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.'

2. അതിന്നു ശമൂവേല്ഞാന് എങ്ങനെ പോകും? ശൌല് കേട്ടാല് എന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാറെ യഹോവനീ ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെയും കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുഞാന് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറക.

2. And Samuel said, 'How can I go? If Saul hears [it,] he will kill me.' And the LORD said, 'Take a heifer with you, and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'

3. യിശ്ശായിയെയും യാഗത്തിന്നു ക്ഷണിക്ക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്തെന്നു ഞാന് അന്നേരം നിന്നോടു അറിയിക്കും; ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്നവനെ നീ എനിക്കായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യേണം.

3. 'Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.'

4. യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ശമൂവേല് ചെയ്തു, ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് ചെന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് അവന്റെ വരവിങ്കല് വിറെച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുനിന്റെ വരവു ശുഭം തന്നേയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

4. So Samuel did what the LORD said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, 'Do you come peaceably?'

5. അതിന്നു അവന് ശുഭം തന്നേ; ഞാന് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളെ തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു എന്നോടുകൂടെ യാഗത്തിന്നു വരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് യിശ്ശായിയെയും അവന്റെ മക്കളെയും ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു അവരെയും യാഗത്തിന്നു ക്ഷണിച്ചു.

5. And he said, 'Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.' Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.

6. അവര് വന്നപ്പോള് അവന് എലീയാബിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുയഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ അവന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തന് ഇതാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, 'Surely the LORD's anointed [is] before Him.'

7. യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടുഅവന്റെ മുഖമോ പൊക്കമോ നോക്കരുതു; ഞാന് അവനെ തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മുനഷ്യന് നോക്കുന്നതുപോലെയല്ല; മനുഷ്യന് കണ്ണിന്നു കാണുന്നതു നോക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയോ ഹൃദയത്തെ നോക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

7. But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For [the] [Lord does] not [see] as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'

8. പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി അബീനാദാബിനെ വിളിച്ചു ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വരുത്തി; എന്നാറെ അവന് യഹോവ ഇവനെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, 'Neither has the LORD chosen this one.'

9. പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി ശമ്മയെയും വരുത്തി. ഇവനെയും യഹോവ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, 'Neither has the LORD chosen this one.'

10. അങ്ങനെ യിശ്ശായി ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരെ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വരുത്തി; എന്നാല് ശമൂവേല് യിശ്ശായിയോടുയഹോവ ഇവരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, 'The LORD has not chosen these.'

11. നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് എല്ലാവരുമായോ എന്നു ശമൂവേല് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവന് ഇനി, ഉള്ളതില് ഇളയവന് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് ആടുകളെ മേയ്ക്കയാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശമൂവേല് യിശ്ശായിയോടുആളയച്ചു അവനെ വരുത്തുക; അവന് വന്നിട്ടല്ലാതെ നാം പന്തിക്കിരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And Samuel said to Jesse, 'Are all the young men here?' Then he said, 'There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.' And Samuel said to Jesse, 'Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.'

12. ഉടനെ അവന് ആളയച്ചു അവനെ വരുത്തി; എന്നാല് അവന് പവിഴനിറമുള്ളവനും സുനേത്രനും കോമളരൂപിയും ആയിരുന്നു. അപ്പോള് യഹോവഎഴുന്നേറ്റു ഇവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്ക; ഇവന് തന്നേ ആകുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

12. So he sent and brought him in. Now he [was] ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the LORD said, 'Arise, anoint him; for this [is] the one!'

13. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് തൈലക്കൊമ്പു എടുത്തു അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നടുവില് വെച്ചു അവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു; യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അന്നുമുതല് ദാവീദിന്മേല് വന്നു. ശമൂവേല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി.

13. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

14. എന്നാല് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു ശൌലിനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; യഹോവ അയച്ച ഒരു ദൂരാത്മാവു അവനെ ബാധിച്ചു.

14. But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him.

15. അപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുദൈവം അയച്ച ഒരു ദൂരാത്മാവു നിന്നെ ബാധിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

15. And Saul's servants said to him, 'Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you.

16. ആകയാല് കിന്നരവായനയില് നിപുണനായ ഒരുത്തനെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു അടിയങ്ങള്ക്കു കല്പന തരേണം; എന്നാല് ദൈവത്തിങ്കല് നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു തിരുമേനിമേല് വരുമ്പോള് അവന് കൈകൊണ്ടു വായിക്കയും തിരുമേനിക്കു ഭേദം വരികയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. 'Let our master now command your servants, [who are] before you, to seek out a man [who is] a skillful player on the harp; and it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.'

17. ശൌല് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുകിന്നരവായനയില് നിപുണനായ ഒരുത്തനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

17. So Saul said to his servants, 'Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring [him] to me.'

18. ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ ഒരു മകനെ ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു; അവന് കിന്നരവായനയില് നിപുണനും പരാക്രമശാലിയും യോദ്ധാവും വാക്ചാതുര്യമുള്ളവനും കോമളനും ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Then one of the servants answered and said, 'Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, [who is] skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD [is] with him.'

19. എന്നാറെ ശൌല് യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുആടുകളോടു കൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ മകന് ദാവീദിനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കേണം എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

19. Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, 'Send me your son David, who [is] with the sheep.'

20. യിശ്ശായി ഒരു കഴുതയെ വരുത്തി, അതിന്റെ പുറത്തു അപ്പം, ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞു, ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടി എന്നിവ കയറ്റി തന്റെ മകന് ദാവീദ്വശം ശൌലിന്നു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

20. And Jesse took a donkey [loaded with] bread, a skin of wine, and a young goat, and sent [them] by his son David to Saul.

21. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നിന്നു; അവന്നു അവനോടു വളരെ സ്നേഹമായി; അവന് അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനായ്തീര്ന്നു.

21. So David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly, and he became his armorbearer.

22. ആകയാല് ശൌല് യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ആളയച്ചുദാവീദിനോടു എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടം തോന്നിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് താമസിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

22. Then Saul sent to Jesse, saying, 'Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.'

23. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പക്കല്നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു ശൌലിന്മേല് വരുമ്പോള് ദാവീദ് കിന്നരം എടുത്തു വായിക്കും; ശൌലിന്നു ആശ്വാസവും സുഖവും ഉണ്ടാകും; ദുരാത്മാവു അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറും.

23. And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play [it] with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.
