1. ദാവീദ് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില്നിന്നു ഔടി യോനാഥാന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നുഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്തു? എന്റെ കുറ്റം എന്തു? നിന്റെ അപ്പന് എന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാന് അന്വേഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനോടു ഞാന് ചെയ്ത പാപം എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

1. And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came into the presence of Jonathan; and he said, What have I done, and what is my fault, and how have I sinned before your father, that he seeks my life?

2. അവന് അവനോടുഅങ്ങനെ ഭവിക്കരുതേ, നീ മരിക്കയില്ല; എന്റെ അപ്പന് എന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതെ വലുതോ ചെറുതോ യാതൊന്നും ചെയ്വാറില്ല; പിന്നെ ഈ കാര്യം എന്നെ മറെപ്പാന് സംഗതി എന്തു? അങ്ങനെ വരികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And Jonathan said to him, Far be it from you! You shall not die! Behold, my father will not do anything great or small without first telling it to me. And why should my father hide this matter from me? This thing is not so.

3. ദാവീദ് പിന്നെയും അവനോടുഎന്നോടു നിനക്കു പ്രിയമാകുന്നുവെന്നു നിന്റെ അപ്പന് നല്ലവണ്ണം അറികയാല് യോനാഥാന് ദുഃഖിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് ഇതു ഗ്രഹിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവന് വിചാരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് യഹോവയാണ, നിന്നാണ, എനിക്കും മരണത്തിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ ഒരടി അകലം മാത്രമേയുള്ളു എന്നു സത്യംചെയ്തു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And David answered Jonathan, and said, Your father knows surely that I have found grace in your sight, and he said, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he refuse his consent. But as the Lord lives, and your soul lives, as I said, there is but [a step] between me and death.

4. അപ്പോള് യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുനിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം എന്തു? ഞാന് അതു ചെയ്തുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. And Jonathan said to David, What does your soul desire, and what shall I do for you?

5. ദാവീദ് യോനാഥാനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനാളെ അമാവാസ്യയാകുന്നു; ഞാനും രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ പന്തിഭോജനത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കേണ്ടതല്ലോ; എങ്കിലും മറ്റെന്നാള് വൈകുന്നേരംവരെ വയലില് ഒളിച്ചിരിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു അനുവാദം തരേണം.

5. And David said to Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I shall not on any account sit down to eat, but you shall let me go, and I will hide in the plain till the evening.

6. നിന്റെ അപ്പന് എന്നെ കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു അന്വേഷിച്ചാല്ദാവീദ് സ്വന്തപട്ടണമായ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമിലേക്കു ഒന്നു പോയിവരേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു താല്പര്യമായി അനുവാദം ചോദിച്ചു; അവന്റെ കുലത്തിന്നെല്ലാം അവിടെ വര്ഷാന്തരയാഗം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിക്കേണം.

6. And if your father in any way inquires about me, then shall you say, David earnestly asked leave of me to run to Bethlehem his city, for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

7. കൊള്ളാമെന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞാല് അടിയന്നു ശുഭം; അല്ല, കോപിച്ചാല്അവന് ദോഷം നിര്ണ്ണയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളേണം.

7. If he shall say thus, Well,- then all is safe for your servant: but if he shall answer harshly to you, know that evil is determined by him.

8. എന്നാല് അങ്ങുന്നു അടിയനോടു ദയ ചെയ്യേണം; അടിയനുമായി യഹോവയെ സാക്ഷിയാക്കി സഖ്യത ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ; വല്ല കുറ്റവും എന്നില് ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലോ അങ്ങുന്നു തന്നേ എന്നെ കൊല്ലുക; അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് എന്നെ കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാന് എന്തൊരാവശ്യം?

8. And you shall deal mercifully with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the Lord with yourself. And if there is iniquity in your servant, then kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?

9. അതിന്നു യോനാഥാന് അങ്ങനെ നിനക്കു വരാതിരിക്കട്ടെ; എന്റെ അപ്പന് നിനക്കു ദോഷം വരുത്തുവാന് നിര്ണ്ണയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞാല് നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And Jonathan said, Far be it from you! For if I surely know that evil is determined by my father to come upon you, although it should not be against your cities, I will tell you.

10. ദാവീദ് യോനാഥാനോടുനിന്റെ അപ്പന് നിന്നോടു കഠിനമായി ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞാലോ അതു ആര് എന്നെ അറിയിക്കും എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

10. And David said to Jonathan, Who can tell me if your father should answer roughly?

11. യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുവരിക, നമുക്കു വയലിലേക്കു പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവര് ഇരുവരും വയലിലേക്കു പോയി.

11. And Jonathan said to David, Go, and stay in the field. And they went out both into the field.

12. പിന്നെ യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുയിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ സാക്ഷിനാളെ ഈ നേരത്തോ മറ്റെന്നാളോ എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അന്തര്ഗ്ഗതമറിഞ്ഞു നിനക്കു ഗുണമെന്നു കണ്ടാല് ഞാന് ആളയച്ചു നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ?

12. And Jonathan said to David, the Lord God of Israel knows that I will search out my father as I have an opportunity, three times, and behold, [if good] should be determined concerning David, and I do not send to you in the field,

13. എന്നാല് നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്വാനാകുന്നു എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ ഭാവമെങ്കില് ഞാന് അതു നിന്നെ അറിയിച്ചു നീ സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്നെ പറഞ്ഞയക്കാതിരുന്നാല് യഹോവ യോനാഥാനോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ; യഹോവ എന്റെ അപ്പനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നതുപോലെ നിന്നോടു കൂടെയും ഇരിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.

13. may God do so to Jonathan and more, also! As I shall also report the evil to you, and make it known to you, and I will let you go; and you shall depart in peace, and the Lord shall be with you, as he was with my father.

14. ഞാന് ഇനി ജീവനോടിരിക്കയാകുന്നു എങ്കില് ഞാന് മരിക്കാതവണ്ണം യഹോവയുടെ ദയ നീ കാണിക്കേണ്ടതു എന്നോടു മാത്രമല്ല;

14. And if indeed I continue to live, then shall you deal mercifully with me; and if I indeed die,

15. എന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തോടും നിന്റെ ദയ ഒരിക്കലും അറ്റുപോകരുതു; യഹോവ ദാവീദിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളെ ഒട്ടൊഴിയാതെ ഭൂതലത്തില്നിന്നു ഛേദിച്ചുകളയുംകാലത്തും അറ്റുപോകരുതു.

15. you shall not withdraw your mercy from my house forever, And if you do not, when the Lord cuts off the enemies of David, each from the face of the earth,

16. ഇങ്ങനെ യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തോടെ സഖ്യതചെയ്തു. ദാവീദിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളോടു യഹോവ ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളും.

16. [ 20:15A] [should it happen] that the name of Jonathan be discovered by the house of David, then let the Lord seek out the enemies of David.

17. യോനാഥാന് സ്വന്തപ്രാണനെപ്പോലെ ദാവീദിനെ സ്നേഹിക്കയാല് തന്നോടുള്ള സ്നേഹത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി അവനെക്കൊണ്ടു പിന്നെയും സത്യംചെയ്യിച്ചു.

17. And Jonathan swore yet again to David, because he loved the soul of him that loved him.

18. പിന്നെ യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനാളെ അമാവാസ്യയാകുന്നുവല്ലോ; നിന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടം ഒഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുമ്പോള് നീ ഇല്ലെന്നു കാണും.

18. And Jonathan said, Tomorrow is the new moon, and you will be inquired about, because your seat will be observed as vacant.

19. മൂന്നു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കാര്യം നടന്ന അന്നു നീ ഒളിച്ചിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു വേഗത്തില് ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു ഏസെല്കല്ലിന്റെ അരികെ താമസിക്കേണം.

19. And you shall stay three days, and watch an opportunity, and shall come to your place where you may hide yourself in the day of your business, and you shall wait by the stone Ezel.

20. അപ്പോള് ഞാന് അതിന്റെ ഒരുവശത്തു ഒരു ലാക്കിന്നു എയ്യുന്നഭാവത്തില് മൂന്നു അമ്പു എയ്യും.

20. And I will shoot three arrows, aiming them at a mark.

21. നീ ചെന്നു അമ്പു നോക്കി എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു വരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഒരു ബാല്യക്കാരനെ അയക്കും. അമ്പുകള് നിന്റെ ഇപ്പുറത്തു ഇതാ, എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു വരിക എന്നു ഞാന് ബാല്യക്കാരനോടു പറഞ്ഞാല് നീ അവ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു വരിക; യഹോവയാണ, നിനക്കു ശുഭമല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നും വരികയില്ല.

21. And behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go find me the arrow.

22. എന്നാല് ഞാന് ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുഅമ്പു നിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തു അതാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല് നിന്റെ വഴിക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; യഹോവ നിന്നെ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. If I should expressly say to the lad, The arrow is here, and on this side of you, take it; then come, for it is well with you, and there is no reason [for fear], [as] the Lord lives. But if I should say thus to the young man, The arrow is on that side of you, and beyond; go, for the Lord has sent you away.

23. ഞാനും നീയും തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന കാര്യത്തിലോ, യഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ എന്നേക്കും സാക്ഷി.

23. And as for the word which you and I have spoken, behold, the Lord is witness between me and you forever.

24. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് വയലില് ഒളിച്ചു; അമാവാസ്യയായപ്പോള് രാജാവു പന്തിഭോജനത്തിന്നു ഇരുന്നു.

24. So David hid himself in the field. And the new month arrived, and the king came to the table to eat.

25. രാജാവു പതിവുപോലെ ചുവരിന്നരികെയുള്ള തന്റെ ആസനത്തിന്മേല് ഇരുന്നു; യോനാഥാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിന്നു. അബ്നേര് ശൌലിന്റെ അരികെ ഇരുന്നു; ദാവീദിന്റെ സ്ഥലമോ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നു.

25. And he sat upon his seat as in former times, even on his seat by the wall, and he went before Jonathan. And Abner sat on one side of Saul, but David's place was empty.

26. അന്നു ശൌല് ഒന്നും പറഞ്ഞില്ല; അവന്നു എന്തോ ഭവിച്ചു അവന്നു ശുദ്ധിയില്ലായിരിക്കും; അതേ, അവന്നു ശുദ്ധിയില്ല എന്നു അവന് വിചാരിച്ചു.

26. And Saul said nothing on that day, for he said, It seems to have fallen out that he is not clean, because he has not purified himself.

27. അമാവാസ്യയുടെ പിറ്റെന്നാളും ദാവീദിന്റെ സ്ഥലം ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നു; ശൌല് തന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനോടുയിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകന് ഇന്നലെയും ഇന്നും പന്തിഭോജനത്തിന്നു വരാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

27. And it came to pass on the next day, on the second day of the month, that David's place was empty; and Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has not the son of Jesse attended both yesterday and today at the table?

28. യോനാഥാന് ശൌലിനോടുദാവീദ് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് പോകുവാന് എന്നോടു താല്പര്യമായി അനുവാദം ചോദിച്ചു

28. And Jonathan answered Saul, and said to him, David asked permission of me to go to Bethlehem, his city.

29. ഞങ്ങളുടെ കുലത്തിന്നു പട്ടണത്തില് ഒരു യാഗമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു എന്നെ വിട്ടയക്കേണമേ; എന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠന് തന്നേ എന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് നിനക്കു എന്നോടു കൃപയുണ്ടെങ്കില് ഞാന് എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ ചെന്നുകാണ്മാന് അനുവദിക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതുകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു അവന് രാജാവിന്റെ പന്തിഭോജനത്തിന്നു വരാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

29. And he said, Let me go, I pray, for we have a family sacrifice in the city, and my brothers have sent for me. And now, if I have found grace in your eyes, I will even go over and see my brothers. Therefore he is not present at the table of the king.

30. അപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്റെ കോപം യോനാഥാന്റെ നേരെ ജ്വലിച്ചു; അവന് അവനോടുവക്രതയും ദുശ്ശാഠ്യവും ഉള്ളവളുടെ മകനേ, നിന്റെ സ്വന്തലജ്ജെക്കും നിന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ നഗ്നതയുടെ ലജ്ജെക്കുമായി നീ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകനോടു കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു എനിക്കു അറിഞ്ഞുകൂടയോ?

30. And Saul was exceedingly angry with Jonathan, and said to him, You son of a traitorous woman! For do I not know that you are an accomplice with the son of Jesse to yourself, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?

32. യോനാഥാന് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌലിനോടുഅവനെ എന്തിന്നു കൊല്ലുന്നു? അവന് എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

32. And Jonathan answered Saul, Why is he to die? What has he done?

33. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് അവനെ കൊല്ലുവാന് അവന്റെ നേരെ കുന്തം ചാടി; അതിനാല് തന്റെ അപ്പന് ദാവീദിനെ കൊല്ലുവാന് നിര്ണ്ണയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യോനാഥാന് അറിഞ്ഞു.

33. And Saul lifted up his spear against Jonathan to kill him, so Jonathan knew that this evil was determined on by his father to kill David.

34. യോനാഥാന് അതികോപത്തോടെ പന്തിഭോജനത്തില്നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു; അമാവാസ്യയുടെ പിറ്റെന്നാള് ഭക്ഷണം ഒന്നും കഴിച്ചതുമില്ല; തന്റെ അപ്പന് ദാവീദിനെ അപമാനിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു അവന് വ്യസനിച്ചിരുന്നു.

34. And Jonathan sprang up from the table in great anger, and did not eat bread on the second day of the month, for he grieved bitterly for David, because his father determined [to do evil] against him.

35. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ, ദാവീദുമായി നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന സമയത്തു, യോനാഥാന് ഒരു ചെറിയ ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുകൂടെ വയലിലേക്കു പോയി.

35. And morning came, and Jonathan went out to the field, as he appointed to do for a signal to David, and a little boy [was] with him.

36. അവന് തന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുഔടിച്ചെന്നു ഞാന് എയ്യുന്ന അമ്പു എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ബാല്യക്കാരന് ഔടുമ്പോള് അവന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തേക്കു ഒരു അമ്പു എയ്തു.

36. And he said to the boy, Run, find me the arrows which I shoot. And the boy ran, and [Jonathan] shot an arrow, and sent it beyond him.

37. യോനാഥാന് എയ്ത അമ്പു വീണേടത്തു ബാല്യക്കാരന് എത്തിയപ്പോള് യോനാഥാന് ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുഅമ്പു നിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തല്ലയോ എന്നു വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു.

37. And the boy came to the place where the arrow was which Jonathan shot; and Jonathan cried out after the lad, and said, The arrow is on that side of you, and beyond you.

38. പിന്നെയും യോനാഥാന് ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ഔടിവരിക, നില്ക്കരുതു എന്നു വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു. യോനാഥാന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരന് അമ്പുകളെ പെറുക്കി യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

38. And Jonathan cried out after his boy, saying, Make haste, and do not delay. And Jonathan's boy gathered up the arrows, and brought the arrows to his master.

39. എന്നാല് യോനാഥാനും ദാവീദും അല്ലാതെ ബാല്യക്കാരന് കാര്യം ഒന്നും അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

39. And the boy knew nothing; only Jonathan and David knew.

40. പിന്നെ യോനാഥാന് തന്റെ ആയുധങ്ങളെ ബാല്യക്കാരന്റെ പക്കല് കൊടുത്തുപട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

40. And Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy, and said to his boy, Go, enter into the city.

41. ബാല്യക്കാരന് പോയ ഉടനെ ദാവീദ് തെക്കുവശത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റുവന്നു മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; അവര് തമ്മില് ചുംബനംചെയ്തു കരഞ്ഞു; ദാവീദോ ഉച്ചത്തില് കരഞ്ഞുപോയി.

41. And when the lad went in, then David arose from the stone Ezel, and fell upon his face, and bowed down to him three times, and they kissed each other, and wept for each other, for a great while.

42. യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുയഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും എന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ എന്നേക്കും സാക്ഷി എന്നിങ്ങനെ നാം ഇരുവരും യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് സത്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോയി; യോനാഥാനോ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പോന്നു.

42. And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, and as we have both sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord shall be witness between me and you, and between my seed and your seed forever- [even so let it be]. And David arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.
