1. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു അതിനെ ഏബെന് -ഏസെരില്നിന്നു അസ്തോദിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

1. When the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

2. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു ദാഗോന്റെ അരികെ വെച്ചു.

2. Taking the ark of God, the Philistines put it in the temple of Dagon, setting it down beside Dagon.

3. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ അസ്തോദ്യര് എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് ദാഗോന് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് കവിണ്ണുവീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. അവര് ദാഗോനെ എടുത്തു വീണ്ടും അവന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തു നിര്ത്തി.

3. When the people of Ashdod got up the following morning and went to the temple of Dagon, there lay Dagon face down on the ground before the ark of Yahweh. They picked Dagon up and put him back in his place.

4. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ അവര് എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് ദാഗോന് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് കവിണ്ണുവീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. ദാഗോന്റെ തലയും അവന്റെ കൈപ്പത്തികളും ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേല് മുറിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നു; ദാഗോന്റെ ഉടല്മാത്രം ശേഷിച്ചിരുന്നു.

4. But when they got up on the following morning, there lay Dagon face down on the ground before the ark of Yahweh, and Dagon's head and two hands lay severed on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left in its place.

5. അതുകൊണ്ടു ദാഗോന്റെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരും ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് കടക്കുന്നവരും അസ്തോദില് ദാഗോന്റെ ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേല് ഇന്നും ചവിട്ടുമാറില്ല.

5. This is why the priests of Dagon and the people frequenting Dagon's temple never step on Dagon's threshold in Ashdod, even today.

6. എന്നാല് യഹോവയുടെ കൈ അസ്തോദ്യരുടെമേല് ഭാരമായിരുന്നു; അവന് അവരെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി അസ്തോദിലും അതിന്റെ അതിരുകളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ മൂലരോഗത്താല് ബാധിച്ചു.

6. Yahweh oppressed the people of Ashdod; he ravaged them and afflicted them with tumours -- Ashdod and its territory. When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening they said,

7. അങ്ങനെ ഭവിച്ചതു അസ്തോദ്യര് കണ്ടിട്ടുയിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കല് ഇരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ കൈ നമ്മുടെമേലും നമ്മുടെ ദേവനായ ദാഗോന്റെ മേലും കഠിനമായിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. 'The ark of the God of Israel must not stay here with us, for he is oppressing us and our god Dagon.'

8. അവര് ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം സംബന്ധിച്ചു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവര്യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ഗത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപേകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

8. So they summoned all the Philistine chiefs to them, and said, 'What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?' They decided, 'The ark of the God of Israel shall be taken away to Gath.' So they took the ark of the God of Israel to Gath.

9. But after they had taken it there, Yahweh oppressed that town and a great panic broke out; afflicting the people of the town from highest to lowest, he brought them out in tumours too.

10. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനിലേക്കു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് എക്രോന്യര്നമ്മെയും നമുക്കുള്ളവരെയും കൊല്ലുവാന് അവര് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

10. They then sent the ark of God to Ekron, but when it came to Ekron the Ekronites shouted, 'They have brought me the ark of the God of Israel to kill me and my people!'

11. അവര് ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകല പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തിയിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മെയും നമ്മുടെ ജനത്തെയും കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അതിനെ വിട്ടയച്ചുകളയേണം; അതു വീണ്ടും അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെങ്ങും മരണകരമായ പരിഭ്രമം ഉണ്ടായി; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കൈ അവിടെയും അതിഭാരമായിരുന്നു.

11. They summoned all the Philistine chiefs and said, 'Send the ark of the God of Israel away; let it go back to where it belongs and not kill me and my people' -- for there was mortal panic throughout the town; God was oppressing them.

12. മരിക്കാതിരുന്നവര് മൂലരോഗത്താല് ബാധിതരായി; പട്ടണത്തിലെ നിലവിളി ആകാശത്തില് കയറി.

12. The people who did not die were afflicted with tumours, and the wailing from the town rose to the sky.
