1. യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം ഏഴു മാസം ഫെലിസ്ത്യദേശത്തു ആയിരുന്നു.

1. And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.

2. എന്നാല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും പ്രശ്നക്കാരെയും വരുത്തിനാം യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം സംബന്ധിച്ചു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു? അതിനെ അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു വിട്ടയക്കേണ്ടതെങ്ങനെ എന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതരുവിന് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

2. And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, 'What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? Tell us how we shall send it to his place.'

3. അതിന്നു അവര്നിങ്ങള് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടം വിട്ടയക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് വെറുതെ അയക്കാതെ ഒരു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തവും അവന്നു കൊടുത്തയക്കേണം; അപ്പോള് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു സൌഖ്യം വരും; അവന്റെ കൈ നിങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു നീങ്ങാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു അറിയാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And they said, 'If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering. Then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.'

4. ഞങ്ങള് അവന്നു കൊടുത്തയക്കേണ്ടുന്ന പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞതുഫെലിസ്ത്യ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെ എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടു അഞ്ചു മൂലകൂരുവും പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടു അഞ്ചു എലിയും തന്നേ; നിങ്ങള്ക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും ഒരേ ബാധയല്ലോ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതു.

4. Then said they, 'What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him?' They answered, 'Five golden hemorrhoids and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was on you all and on your lords.

5. ആകയാല് നിങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളുടെ മൂലകൂരുവിന്റെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തെ ശൂന്യമാക്കുന്ന എലിയുടെയും പ്രതിമകള് ഉണ്ടാക്കി, യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്നു തിരുമുല്ക്കാഴ്ചവെക്കേണം; പക്ഷേ അവന് തന്റെ കൈ നിങ്ങളുടെ മേല്നിന്നും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്മാരുടെ മേല്നിന്നും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തിന്മേല്നിന്നും നീക്കും.

5. Therefore ye shall make images of your hemorrhoids and images of your mice that mar the land, and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel. Perhaps he will lighten his hand from you and from your gods and from your land.

6. മിസ്രയീമ്യരും ഫറവോനും തങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ കഠിനമാക്കിയതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ കഠിനമാക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അവരുടെ ഇടയില് അത്ഭുതം പ്രവൃത്തിച്ചശേഷമല്ലയോ അവര് അവരെ വിട്ടയക്കയും അവര് പോകയും ചെയ്തതു?

6. Why then do ye harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

7. ആകയാല് നിങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് ഒരു പുതിയ വണ്ടി ഉണ്ടാക്കി നുകം വെച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത കറവുള്ള രണ്ടു പശുക്കളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു വണ്ടിക്കു കെട്ടി അവയുടെ കിടാക്കളെ അവയുടെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു വീട്ടില് മടക്കിക്കൊണ്ടു പോകുവിന് .

7. Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milk cows on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the cows to the cart and bring their calves home from them.

8. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു വണ്ടിയില് വെപ്പിന് ; നിങ്ങള് അവന്നു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തമായി കൊടുത്തയക്കുന്ന പൊന്നുരുപ്പടികളും ഒരു ചെല്ലത്തില് അതിന്നരികെ വെച്ചു അതു തനിച്ചുപോകുവാന് വിടുവിന് .

8. And take the ark of the LORD and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return to him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.

9. പിന്നെ നോക്കുവിന് അതു ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയായി സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് തന്നേയാകുന്നു നമുക്കു ഈ വലിയ അനര്ത്ഥം വരുത്തിയതു; അല്ലെങ്കില് നമ്മെ ബാധിച്ചതു അവന്റെ കയ്യല്ല, യദൃച്ഛയാ നമുക്കു ഭവിച്ചതത്രേ എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളാം.

9. And see: If it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Bethshemesh, then he hath done us this great evil. But if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.'

10. അവര് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു; കറവുള്ള രണ്ടു പശുക്കളെ വരുത്തി വണ്ടിക്കു കെട്ടി, അവയുടെ കിടാക്കളെ വീട്ടില് ഇട്ടു അടെച്ചു.

10. And the men did so; and took two milk cows and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home.

11. പിന്നെ അവര് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകവും പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടുള്ള എലികളും മൂലകൂരുവിന്റെ പ്രതിമകളും ഇട്ടിരുന്ന ചെല്ലവും വണ്ടിയില് വെച്ചു.

11. And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their hemorrhoids.

12. ആ പശുക്കള് നേരെ ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിക്കു പോയിഅവ കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ മാറാതെ പെരുവഴിയില് കൂടി തന്നേ പോയി; ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശിന്റെ അതിര്വരെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു.

12. And the cows took the straight way to the way of Bethshemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Bethshemesh.

13. അന്നേരം ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യര് താഴ്വരയില് കോതമ്പു കൊയ്യുകയായിരുന്നുഅവര് തല ഉയര്ത്തി പെട്ടകം കണ്ടു; കണ്ടിട്ടു സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

13. And they of Bethshemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.

14. വണ്ടി ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യനായ യോശുവയുടെ വയലില് വന്നുനിന്നുഅവിടെ ഒരു വലിയ കല്ലു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര് വണ്ടിയുടെ മരം വെട്ടിക്കീറി പശുക്കളെ യഹോവേക്കു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചു.

14. And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there where there was a great stone. And they cleaved the wood of the cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering unto the LORD.

15. ലേവ്യര് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകവും പൊന്നുരുപ്പടികള് ഉള്ള ചെല്ലവും ഇറക്കി ആ വലിയ കല്ലിന്മേല് വെച്ചു; ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യര് അന്നു യഹോവേക്കു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്പ്പിച്ചു.

15. And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Bethshemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.

16. ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് ഏവരും ഇതു കണ്ടശേഷം അന്നു തന്നേ എക്രോനിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

16. And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.

17. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യഹോവേക്കു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തമായി കൊടുത്തയച്ച പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടുള്ള മൂലകൂരുക്കള് അസ്തോദിന്റെ പേര്ക്കും ഒന്നു, ഗസ്സയുടെ പേര്ക്കും ഒന്നു, അസ്കലോന്റെ പേര്ക്കും ഒന്നു, ഗത്തിന്റെ പേര്ക്കും ഒന്നു, എക്രോന്റെ പേര്ക്കും ഒന്നു ഇങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു.

17. And these are the golden hemorrhoids which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

18. പൊന്നു കൊണ്ടുള്ള എലികള് ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളും നാട്ടുപുറങ്ങളിലെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളും ആയി അഞ്ചു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കുംള്ള സകലഫെലിസ്ത്യപട്ടണങ്ങളുടെയും എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ആയിരുന്നു. അവര് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം ഇറക്കിവെച്ച വലിയ കല്ലു ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യനായ യോശുവയുടെ വയലില് ഇന്നുവരെയും ഉണ്ടു.

18. and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fortified cities and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel whereon they set down the ark of the LORD, which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Bethshemite.

19. ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യര് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തില് നോക്കുകകൊണ്ടു അവന് അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു; അവന് ജനത്തില് അമ്പതിനായിരത്തെഴുപതുപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവ ജനത്തില് ഒരു മഹാസംഹാരം ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു ജനം വിലപിച്ചു

19. And He smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD; even He smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men. And the people lamented because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

20. ഈ പരിശുദ്ധദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നില്പാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും? അവന് ഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു ആരുടെ അടുക്കല് പോകും എന്നു ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യര് പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And the men of Bethshemesh said, 'Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? And to whom shall He go up from us?'

21. അവര് കിര്യ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീംനിവാസികളുടെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം മടക്കി അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് വന്നു അതിനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടു പോകുവിന് എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

21. And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, 'The Philistines have brought back the ark of the LORD. Come ye down and fetch it up to you.'
