1. Abram's wife Sarai had never had any children by him. But she had a female servant from Egypt named Hagar.

2. സാറായി അബ്രാമിനോടുഞാന് പ്രസവിക്കാതിരിപ്പാന് യഹോവ എന്റെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. എന്റെ ദാസിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നാലും; പക്ഷേ അവളാല് എനിക്കു മക്കള് ലഭിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അബ്രാം സാറായിയുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചു.

2. So she said to Abram, 'The Lord has kept me from having children. Go and make love to my servant. Maybe I can have a family through her.' Abram agreed to what Sarai had said.

3. അബ്രാം കനാന് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തു പത്തു സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായി മിസ്രയീമ്യദാസിയായ ഹാഗാറിനെ തന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവായ അബ്രാമിന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

3. After he had been living in Canaan for ten years, his wife Sarai gave him her servant Hagar to be his wife.

4. അവന് ഹാഗാരിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു; താന് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു എന്നു അവള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് യജമാനത്തി അവളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു നിന്ദിതയായി.

4. He made love to Hagar. And she became pregnant. When Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to look down on the woman who owned her.

5. അപ്പോള് സാറായി അബ്രാമിനോടുഎനിക്കു ഭവിച്ച അന്യായത്തിന്നു നീ ഉത്തരവാദി; ഞാന് എന്റെ ദാസിയെ നിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തില് തന്നു; എന്നാല് താന് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു എന്നു അവള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് ഞാന് അവളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു നിന്ദിതയായി; യഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then Sarai said to Abram, 'It's your fault that I'm suffering like this. I put my servant in your arms. Now that she knows she's pregnant, she looks down on me. May the Lord judge between you and me. May he decide which of us is right.'

6. അബ്രാം സാറായിയോടുനിന്റെ ദാസി നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നുഇഷ്ടംപോലെ അവളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സാറായി അവളോടു കാഠിന്യം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവള് അവളെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

6. Your servant belongs to you,' Abram said. 'Do with her what you think is best.' Then Sarai treated Hagar badly. So Hagar ran away from her.

7. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മരുഭൂമിയില് ഒരു നീരുറവിന്റെ അരികെ, ശൂരിന്നു പോകുന്ന വഴിയിലെ നീരുറവിന്റെ അരികെ വെച്ചു തന്നേ അവളെ കണ്ടു.

7. The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring of water in the desert. The spring was beside the road to Shur.

8. സാറായിയുടെ ദാസിയായ ഹാഗാരേ, നീ എവിടെ നിന്നു വരുന്നു? എങ്ങോട്ടു പോകുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവള്ഞാന് എന്റെ യജമാനത്തി സാറായിയെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോകയാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. He said, 'Hagar, you are the servant of Sarai. Where have you come from? Where are you going?' 'I'm running away from my owner Sarai,' she answered.

9. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവളോടുനിന്റെ യജമാനത്തിയുടെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു അവള്ക്കു കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിക്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

9. Then the angel of the Lord told her, 'Go back to the woman who owns you. Obey her.'

10. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പിന്നെയും അവളോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ ഏറ്റവും വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കും; അതു എണ്ണിക്കൂടാതവണ്ണം പെരുപ്പമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

10. The angel continued, 'I will greatly increase the number of your children after you. You will have more of them than anyone can count.'

11. നീ ഗര്ഭിണിയല്ലോ; നീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; യഹോവ നിന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു യിശ്മായേല് എന്നു പേര് വിളിക്കേണം;

11. The angel of the Lord also said to her, 'You are now pregnant. You will have a son. You will name him Ishmael. That is because the Lord has heard about your suffering.

12. അവന് കാട്ടുകഴുതയെപ്പോലെയുള്ള മനുഷ്യന് ആയിരിക്കുംഅവന്റെ കൈ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും വിരോധമായും എല്ലാവരുടെയും കൈ അവന്നു വിരോധമായും ഇരിക്കും; അവന് തന്റെ സകല സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും എതിരെ പാര്ക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. He will be like a wild donkey. He will use his power against everyone. And everyone will be against him. He will not be friendly toward any of his relatives.'

13. എന്നാറെ അവള്എന്നെ കാണുന്നവനെ ഞാന് ഇവിടെയും കണ്ടുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു തന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത യഹോവേക്കുദൈവമേ, നീ എന്നെ കാണുന്നു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

13. She gave a name to the Lord who spoke to her. She called him 'You are the God who sees me.' That's because she said, 'I have now seen the One who sees me.'

14. അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ കിണറ്റിന്നു ബേര്-ലഹയീ-രോയീ എന്നു പേരായി; അതു കാദേശിന്നും ബേരെദിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

14. That's why the well was named Beer Lahai Roi. It's still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

15. പിന്നെ ഹാഗാര് അബ്രാമിന്നു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുഹാഗാര് പ്രസവിച്ച തന്റെ മകന്നു അബ്രാം യിശ്മായേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

15. So Hagar had a son by Abram. And Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had by him.

16. ഹാഗാര് അബ്രാമിന്നു യിശ്മായേലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചപ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്നു എണ്പത്താറു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

16. Abram was 86 years old when Hagar had Ishmael by him.
