1. അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായി മക്കളെ പ്രസവിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല; എന്നാല് അവള്ക്കു ഹാഗാര് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു മിസ്രയീമ്യദാസി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

1. Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bare him no children: and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

2. സാറായി അബ്രാമിനോടുഞാന് പ്രസവിക്കാതിരിപ്പാന് യഹോവ എന്റെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. എന്റെ ദാസിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നാലും; പക്ഷേ അവളാല് എനിക്കു മക്കള് ലഭിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അബ്രാം സാറായിയുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചു.

2. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing; go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

3. അബ്രാം കനാന് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തു പത്തു സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായി മിസ്രയീമ്യദാസിയായ ഹാഗാറിനെ തന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവായ അബ്രാമിന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

3. And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.

4. അവന് ഹാഗാരിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു; താന് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു എന്നു അവള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് യജമാനത്തി അവളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു നിന്ദിതയായി.

4. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

5. അപ്പോള് സാറായി അബ്രാമിനോടുഎനിക്കു ഭവിച്ച അന്യായത്തിന്നു നീ ഉത്തരവാദി; ഞാന് എന്റെ ദാസിയെ നിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തില് തന്നു; എന്നാല് താന് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു എന്നു അവള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് ഞാന് അവളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു നിന്ദിതയായി; യഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: Jehovah judge between me and thee.

6. അബ്രാം സാറായിയോടുനിന്റെ ദാസി നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നുഇഷ്ടംപോലെ അവളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സാറായി അവളോടു കാഠിന്യം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവള് അവളെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

6. But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her that which is good in thine eyes. And Sarai dealt hardly with her, and she fled from her face.

7. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മരുഭൂമിയില് ഒരു നീരുറവിന്റെ അരികെ, ശൂരിന്നു പോകുന്ന വഴിയിലെ നീരുറവിന്റെ അരികെ വെച്ചു തന്നേ അവളെ കണ്ടു.

7. And the angel of Jehovah found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

8. സാറായിയുടെ ദാസിയായ ഹാഗാരേ, നീ എവിടെ നിന്നു വരുന്നു? എങ്ങോട്ടു പോകുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവള്ഞാന് എന്റെ യജമാനത്തി സാറായിയെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോകയാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And he said, Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, whence camest thou? and whither goest thou? And she said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.

9. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവളോടുനിന്റെ യജമാനത്തിയുടെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു അവള്ക്കു കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിക്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

9. And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

10. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പിന്നെയും അവളോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ ഏറ്റവും വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കും; അതു എണ്ണിക്കൂടാതവണ്ണം പെരുപ്പമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

10. And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

11. നീ ഗര്ഭിണിയല്ലോ; നീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; യഹോവ നിന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു യിശ്മായേല് എന്നു പേര് വിളിക്കേണം;

11. And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah hath heard thy affliction.

12. അവന് കാട്ടുകഴുതയെപ്പോലെയുള്ള മനുഷ്യന് ആയിരിക്കുംഅവന്റെ കൈ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും വിരോധമായും എല്ലാവരുടെയും കൈ അവന്നു വിരോധമായും ഇരിക്കും; അവന് തന്റെ സകല സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും എതിരെ പാര്ക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. And he shall be [as] a wild ass among men; his hand [shall be] against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his brethren.

13. എന്നാറെ അവള്എന്നെ കാണുന്നവനെ ഞാന് ഇവിടെയും കണ്ടുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു തന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത യഹോവേക്കുദൈവമേ, നീ എന്നെ കാണുന്നു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

13. And she called the name of Jehovah that spake unto her, Thou art a God that seeth: for she said, Have I even here looked after him that seeth me?

14. അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ കിണറ്റിന്നു ബേര്-ലഹയീ-രോയീ എന്നു പേരായി; അതു കാദേശിന്നും ബേരെദിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

14. Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

15. പിന്നെ ഹാഗാര് അബ്രാമിന്നു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുഹാഗാര് പ്രസവിച്ച തന്റെ മകന്നു അബ്രാം യിശ്മായേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

15. And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bare, Ishmael.

16. ഹാഗാര് അബ്രാമിന്നു യിശ്മായേലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചപ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്നു എണ്പത്താറു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

16. And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
