1. അനന്തരം യാക്കോബ് തലപൊക്കി നോക്കി, ഏശാവും അവനോടുകൂടെ നാനൂറു ആളും വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു; തന്റെ മക്കളെ ലേയയുടെ അടുക്കലും റാഹേലിന്റെ അടുക്കലും രണ്ടു ദാസിമാരുടെ അടുക്കലും വിഭാഗിച്ചു നിര്ത്തി.

1. Then Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! Esau, coming in, and with him, four hundred men. So he divided the children unto Leah and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids;

2. അവന് ദാസിമാരെയും അവരുടെ മക്കളെയും മുമ്പായും ലേയെയും അവളുടെ മക്കളെയും പിന്നാലെയും റാഹേലിനെയും യോസേഫിനെയും ഒടുക്കമായും നിര്ത്തി.

2. and put the handmaids and their children first, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph next;

3. അവന് അവര്ക്കും മുമ്പായി കടന്നു ഏഴു പ്രാവശ്യം സാഷ്ടാംഗം നമസ്കരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു തന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു അടുത്തുചെന്നു.

3. but he himself, passed over before them, and bowed himself to the earth seven times, until he had come near unto his brother.

4. ഏശാവ് ഔടിവന്നു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു, ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ കഴുത്തില് വീണു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു, രണ്ടുപേരും കരഞ്ഞു.

4. Then ran Esau to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and they wept.

5. പിന്നെ അവന് തലപൊക്കി സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും കണ്ടുനിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഇവര് ആര് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നുദൈവം അടിയന്നു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന മക്കള് എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then lifted he up his eyes, and beheld the women and the children, and said What are these to thee? And he said The children wherewith God hath favoured thy servant,

6. അപ്പോള് ദാസിമാരും മക്കളും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു;

6. Then came near the handmaids, they and their children, and bowed themselves.

7. ലേയയും മക്കളും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; ഒടുവില് യോസേഫും റാഹേലും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

7. Then came near Leah also with her children, and they bowed themselves. And afterwards, came near Joseph with Rachel, and they bowed themselves,

8. ഞാന് വഴിക്കു കണ്ട ആ കൂട്ടമൊക്കെയും എന്തിന്നു എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയജമാനന്നു എന്നോടു കൃപതോന്നേണ്ടതിന്നു ആകുന്നു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then said he, What to thee is all this camp, which I have fallen in with? And he said, To find favour in the eyes of my lord.

9. അതിന്നു ഏശാവ്സഹോദരാ, എനിക്കു വേണ്ടുന്നതു ഉണ്ടു; നിനക്കുള്ളതു നിനക്കു ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then said Esau, I have an abundance, my brother, be thine what thou hast!

10. അതിന്നു യാക്കോബ്അങ്ങനെയല്ല, എന്നോടു കൃപ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് എന്റെ സമ്മാനം എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങേണമേ; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മുഖം കാണുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ മുഖം കാണുകയും നിനക്കു എന്നോടു ദയ തോന്നുകയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ;

10. Then said Jacob, Nay, I pray thee, if, I pray thee, have found favour in thine eyes, then thou wilt take my present at my hand, For on this account, hath my seeing thy face been like seeing the face of God in that thou wast well-pleased with me.

11. ഞാന് അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച വാങ്ങേണമേ; ദൈവം എന്നോടു കൃപ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കു വേണ്ടുവോളം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് അതു വാങ്ങി.

11. Take, I pray thee my blessing which hath been brought in to thee, because God hath shewed me favour and because I have everything. So he was urgent with him and he took it.

12. പിന്നെ അവന് നാം പ്രയാണംചെയ്തു പോക; ഞാന് നിനക്കു മുമ്പായി നടക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Then he said, Let us break up and go, and let me go on before thee.

13. അതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുകുട്ടികള് നന്നാ ഇളയവര് എന്നും കുറവുള്ള ആടുകളും കന്നുകാലികളും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും യജമാനന് അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; അവയെ ഒരു ദിവസം അധികമായി ഔടിച്ചാല് കൂട്ടമെല്ലാം ചത്തുപോകും.

13. And he said unto him, My lord, is taking note, that, the children are tender, and the flocks and the herds are giving suck with me, and, should I overdrive them a single day, then would all the flocks die.

14. യജമാനന് അടിയന്നു മുമ്പായി പോയാലും; എന്റെ കൂടെയുള്ള കന്നുകാലികളുടെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെയും പ്രാപ്തിക്കു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ഞാന് സാവധാനത്തില് അവയെ നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടു സേയീരില് യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുകൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. Let my lord, I pray thee pass over before his servant, and let, me, lead on in my own easy way, at the pace of the cattle that are before me, and at the pace of the children, until that I come in unto my lord, towards Seir.

15. എന്റെ ആളുകളില് ചിലരെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിര്ത്തട്ടെ എന്നു ഏശാവു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎന്തിന്നു? യജമാനന്റെ കൃപയുണ്ടായാല് മതി എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Then said Esau: Let me leave, I pray thee, along with thee, some of the people who are with me! And he said Why so? let me find favour in the eyes of my lord!

16. അങ്ങനെ ഏശാവ് അന്നു തന്റെ വഴിക്കു സേയീരിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

16. So Esau returned, that day, to his journey towards Mount Seir.

17. യാക്കോബോ സുക്കോത്തിന്നു യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു; തനിക്കു ഒരു വീടു പണിതു; കന്നുകാലിക്കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു തൊഴുത്തുകളും കെട്ടി; അതു കൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു സുക്കോത്ത് എന്നു പേര് പറയുന്നു.

17. But, Jacob, brake up towards Succoth, and built for himself a house, for his cattle, made he places of shelter, for which cause, the name of the place was called, Succoth.

18. യാക്കോബ് പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്നിന്നു വന്നശേഷം കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ശേഖേംപട്ടണത്തില് സമാധാനത്തോടെ എത്തി പട്ടണത്തിന്നരികെ പാളയമടിച്ചു.

18. And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came in from Padan-aram, and he encamped before the city.

19. താന് കൂടാരമടിച്ച നിലം ശെഖേമിന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹമോരിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരോടു നൂറു വെള്ളിക്കാശിന്നു വാങ്ങി.

19. And he bought the portion of the field where he had spread out his tent, at the hand of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem, for a hundred kesitahs.

20. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു, അതിന്നു ഏല്-എലോഹേ-യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു.

20. And he set up there an altar, and called it, El-elohe-Israel.
