1. അനന്തരം യാക്കോബ് തലപൊക്കി നോക്കി, ഏശാവും അവനോടുകൂടെ നാനൂറു ആളും വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു; തന്റെ മക്കളെ ലേയയുടെ അടുക്കലും റാഹേലിന്റെ അടുക്കലും രണ്ടു ദാസിമാരുടെ അടുക്കലും വിഭാഗിച്ചു നിര്ത്തി.

1. Looking up, Jacob saw Esau coming and with him four hundred men. He then divided the children between Leah, Rachel and the two slave-girls.

2. അവന് ദാസിമാരെയും അവരുടെ മക്കളെയും മുമ്പായും ലേയെയും അവളുടെ മക്കളെയും പിന്നാലെയും റാഹേലിനെയും യോസേഫിനെയും ഒടുക്കമായും നിര്ത്തി.

2. He put the slave-girls and their children in front, with Leah and her children following, and Rachel and Joseph behind.

3. അവന് അവര്ക്കും മുമ്പായി കടന്നു ഏഴു പ്രാവശ്യം സാഷ്ടാംഗം നമസ്കരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു തന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു അടുത്തുചെന്നു.

3. He himself went ahead of them and bowed to the ground seven times, until he reached his brother.

4. ഏശാവ് ഔടിവന്നു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു, ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ കഴുത്തില് വീണു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു, രണ്ടുപേരും കരഞ്ഞു.

4. But Esau ran to meet him, took him in his arms, threw himself on his neck and wept as he kissed him.

5. പിന്നെ അവന് തലപൊക്കി സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും കണ്ടുനിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഇവര് ആര് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നുദൈവം അടിയന്നു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന മക്കള് എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then looking up he saw the women and children. 'Who are these with you?' he asked. Jacob answered, 'The children whom God has bestowed on your servant.'

6. അപ്പോള് ദാസിമാരും മക്കളും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു;

6. The slave-girls then came up with their children, and they all bowed low.

7. ലേയയും മക്കളും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; ഒടുവില് യോസേഫും റാഹേലും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

7. Then Leah too came up with her children, and they all bowed low. Finally Rachel and Joseph came up and bowed low.

8. ഞാന് വഴിക്കു കണ്ട ആ കൂട്ടമൊക്കെയും എന്തിന്നു എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയജമാനന്നു എന്നോടു കൃപതോന്നേണ്ടതിന്നു ആകുന്നു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Esau asked, 'What was the purpose of that whole camp I just met?' 'To win my lord's favour,' he replied.

9. അതിന്നു ഏശാവ്സഹോദരാ, എനിക്കു വേണ്ടുന്നതു ഉണ്ടു; നിനക്കുള്ളതു നിനക്കു ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. 'Brother, I have plenty,' Esau answered, 'keep what is yours.'

10. അതിന്നു യാക്കോബ്അങ്ങനെയല്ല, എന്നോടു കൃപ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് എന്റെ സമ്മാനം എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങേണമേ; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മുഖം കാണുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ മുഖം കാണുകയും നിനക്കു എന്നോടു ദയ തോന്നുകയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ;

10. Jacob protested, 'No, if I have won your favour, please accept the gift I offer, for in fact I have come into your presence as into the presence of God, since you have received me kindly.

11. ഞാന് അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച വാങ്ങേണമേ; ദൈവം എന്നോടു കൃപ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കു വേണ്ടുവോളം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് അതു വാങ്ങി.

11. So accept the gift I have brought for you, since God has been generous to me and I have all I need.' And he urged him, and Esau accepted.

12. പിന്നെ അവന് നാം പ്രയാണംചെയ്തു പോക; ഞാന് നിനക്കു മുമ്പായി നടക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Esau said, 'Let us break camp and move off; I shall go beside you.'

13. അതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുകുട്ടികള് നന്നാ ഇളയവര് എന്നും കുറവുള്ള ആടുകളും കന്നുകാലികളും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും യജമാനന് അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; അവയെ ഒരു ദിവസം അധികമായി ഔടിച്ചാല് കൂട്ടമെല്ലാം ചത്തുപോകും.

13. But Jacob replied, 'As my lord knows, the children are weak, and the sheep and cows which have calved make it hard for me. If they are driven too hard, even for one day, the whole drove will die.

14. യജമാനന് അടിയന്നു മുമ്പായി പോയാലും; എന്റെ കൂടെയുള്ള കന്നുകാലികളുടെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെയും പ്രാപ്തിക്കു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ഞാന് സാവധാനത്തില് അവയെ നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടു സേയീരില് യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുകൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. May it please my lord to go on ahead of his servant. For my part, I shall move at a slower pace, to suit the flock I am driving and the children, until I join my lord in Seir.'

15. എന്റെ ആളുകളില് ചിലരെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിര്ത്തട്ടെ എന്നു ഏശാവു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎന്തിന്നു? യജമാനന്റെ കൃപയുണ്ടായാല് മതി എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Esau then said, 'At least let me leave you some of the people who are with me.' 'What for?' Jacob asked. 'Please indulge me, my lord!'

16. അങ്ങനെ ഏശാവ് അന്നു തന്റെ വഴിക്കു സേയീരിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

16. So that day Esau turned back towards Seir,

17. യാക്കോബോ സുക്കോത്തിന്നു യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു; തനിക്കു ഒരു വീടു പണിതു; കന്നുകാലിക്കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു തൊഴുത്തുകളും കെട്ടി; അതു കൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു സുക്കോത്ത് എന്നു പേര് പറയുന്നു.

17. but Jacob made his way to Succoth, where he built himself a house and made shelters for his livestock; that is why the place was given the name of Succoth.

18. യാക്കോബ് പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്നിന്നു വന്നശേഷം കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ശേഖേംപട്ടണത്തില് സമാധാനത്തോടെ എത്തി പട്ടണത്തിന്നരികെ പാളയമടിച്ചു.

18. Jacob arrived safely at the town of Shechem in Canaanite territory, on his return from Paddan-Aram. He encamped opposite the town

19. താന് കൂടാരമടിച്ച നിലം ശെഖേമിന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹമോരിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരോടു നൂറു വെള്ളിക്കാശിന്നു വാങ്ങി.

19. and for one hundred pieces of silver he bought from the sons of Hamor father of Shechem the piece of land on which he had pitched his tent.

20. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു, അതിന്നു ഏല്-എലോഹേ-യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു.

20. There he erected an altar which he called 'El, God of Israel'.
