1. അനന്തരം യഹോവ നാഥാനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു. അവന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് രണ്ടു പുരുഷന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന് ധനവാന് , മറ്റവന് ദരിദ്രന് .

1. Then the Lord sent Nathan vnto Dauid, who came to him, and sayd vnto him, There were two men in one citie, the one riche, and the other poore.

2. ധനവാന്നു ആടുമാടുകള് അനവധി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2. The rich man had exceeding many sheepe and oxen:

3. ദരിദ്രന്നോ താന് വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി വളര്ത്തിയ ഒരു പെണ്കുഞ്ഞാടല്ലാതെ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; അതു അവന്റെ അടുക്കലും അവന്റെ മക്കളുടെ അടുക്കലും വളര്ന്നുവന്നു; അതു അവന് തിന്നുന്നതില് ഔഹരി തിന്നുകയും അവന് കുടിക്കുന്നതില് ഔഹരി കുടിക്കയും അവന്റെ മടിയില് കിടക്കയും ചെയ്തു; അവന്നു ഒരു മകളെപ്പോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

3. But the poore had none at all, saue one litle sheepe which he had bought, and nourished vp: and it grew vp with him, and with his children also, and did eate of his owne morsels, and dranke of his owne cup, and slept in his bosome, and was vnto him as his daughter.

4. ധനവാന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരു വഴിയാത്രക്കാരന് വന്നു; തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന വഴിപോക്കന്നുവേണ്ടി പാകംചെയ്വാന് സ്വന്ത ആടുമാടുകളില് ഒന്നിനെ എടുപ്പാന് മനസ്സാകാതെ, അവന് ആ ദരിദ്രന്റെ കുഞ്ഞാടിനെ പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള്ക്കുവേണ്ടി പാകം ചെയ്തു.

4. Now there came a stranger vnto the rich man, who refused to take of his owne sheepe, and of his owne oxen to dresse for the stranger that was come vnto him, but tooke the poore mans sheepe, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

5. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദിന്റെ കോപം ആ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ ഏറ്റവും ജ്വലിച്ചു; അവന് നാഥാനോടുയഹോവയാണ, ഇതു ചെയ്തവന് മരണയോഗ്യന് .

5. Then Dauid was exceeding wroth with the man, and sayde to Nathan, As the Lord liueth, the man that hath done this thing, shall surely dye,

6. അവന് കനിവില്ലാതെ ഈ കാര്യം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ആ ആടിന്നുവേണ്ടി നാലിരട്ടി പകരം കൊടുക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And he shall restore the lambe foure folde, because he did this thing, and had no pitie thereof.

7. നാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുആ മനുഷ്യന് നീ തന്നേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു, നിന്നെ ശൌലിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു.

7. Then Nathan sayd to Dauid, Thou art the man. Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, I anoynted thee King ouer Israel, and deliuered thee out of the hand of Saul,

8. ഞാന് നിനക്കു നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തെയും നിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തിലേക്കു നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരെയും തന്നു; യിസ്രായേല് ഗൃഹത്തെയും യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തെയും നിനക്കു തന്നു; പോരായെങ്കില് ഇന്നിന്നതും കൂടെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു തരുമായിരുന്നു.

8. And gaue thee thy lordes house, and thy lords wiues into thy bosome, and gaue thee the house of Israel, and of Iudah, and would moreouer (if that had bene too litle) haue giuen thee such and such things.

9. നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന നിരസിച്ചു അവന്നു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തതു എന്തിന്നു? ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു വെട്ടി അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുത്തു. അവനെ അമ്മോന്യരുടെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊല്ലിച്ചു.

9. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandement of the Lord, to doe euill in his sight? thou hast killed Vriah the Hittite with ye sworde, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slaine him with the sworde of the children of Ammon.

10. നീ എന്നെ നിരസിച്ചു ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവിന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുത്തതുകൊണ്ടു വാള് നിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തെ ഒരിക്കലും വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

10. Now therefore the sworde shall neuer depart from thine house, because thou hast despised me, and taken the wife of Vriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

11. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിന്റെ സ്വന്തഗൃഹത്തില്നിന്നു ഞാന് നിനക്കു അനര്ത്ഥം വരുത്തും; നീ കാണ്കെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരെ എടുത്തു നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു കൊടുക്കും; അവന് ഈ സൂര്യന്റെ വെട്ടത്തു തന്നേ നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്കും.

11. Thus sayth the Lord, Behold, I will rayse vp euil against thee out of thine owne house, and will take thy wiues before thine eyes, and giue them vnto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wiues in the sight of this sunne.

12. നീ അതു രഹസ്യത്തില് ചെയ്തു; ഞാനോ ഈ കാര്യം യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും കാണ്കെ സൂര്യന്റെ വെട്ടത്തു തന്നേ നടത്തും.

12. For thou diddest it secretly: but I will doe this thing before all Israel, and before the sunne.

13. ദാവീദ് നാഥാനോടുഞാന് യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു നാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുയഹോവ നിന്റെ പാപം മോചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ മരിക്കയില്ല.

13. Then Dauid sayde vnto Nathan, I haue sinned against the Lord. And Nathan sayde vnto Dauid, The Lord also hath put away thy sinne, thou shalt not die.

14. എങ്കിലും നീ ഈ പ്രവൃത്തിയില് യഹോവയുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് ദൂഷണം പറവാന് ഹേതു ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതു കൊണ്ടു നിനക്കു ജനിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചു പോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നാഥാന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി.

14. Howbeit because by this deede thou hast caused the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the childe that is borne vnto thee shall surely die.

15. ഊരീയാവിന്റെ ഭാര്യ ദാവീദിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച കുഞ്ഞിനെ യഹോവ ബാധിച്ചു, അതിന്നു കഠിനരോഗം പിടിച്ചു.

15. So Nathan departed vnto his house: and the Lord stroke the childe that Vriahs wife bare vnto Dauid, and it was sicke.

16. ദാവീദ് കുഞ്ഞിന്നുവേണ്ടി ദൈവത്തോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; ദാവീദ് ഉപവസിക്കയും അകത്തു കടന്നു രാത്രി മുഴുവനും നിലത്തു കിടക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

16. Dauid therefore besought God for the childe, and fasted and went in, and lay all night vpon the earth.

17. അവന്റെ ഗൃഹപ്രമാണികള് അവനെ നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേല്പിപ്പാന് ഉത്സാഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അരികെ നിന്നു; എന്നാല് അവന്നു മനസ്സായില്ല. അവരോടു കൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചതുമില്ല.

17. Then the Elders of his house arose to come vnto him, and to cause him to rise from the groud: but he would not, neither did he eate meate with them.

18. എന്നാല് ഏഴാം ദിവസം കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയി. കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചു എന്നു ദാവീദിനെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഭൃത്യന്മാര് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു. കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം നാം സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് നമ്മുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കെ കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു നാം അവനോടു എങ്ങനെ പറയും? അവന് തനിക്കുതന്നേ വല്ല കേടും വരുത്തും എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

18. So on the seuenth day the child dyed: and the seruants of Dauid feared to tell him that the childe was dead: for they sayde, Beholde, while the childe was aliue, we spake vnto him, and he woulde not hearken vnto our voyce: how then shall we say vnto him, The childe is dead, to vexe him more?

19. ഭൃത്യന്മാര് തമ്മില് മന്ത്രിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോള് കുഞ്ഞുമരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു ദാവീദ് ഗ്രഹിച്ചു, തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുകുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

19. But when Dauid sawe that his seruantes whispered, Dauid perceiued that the childe was dead: therefore Dauid sayde vnto his seruants, Is the childe dead? And they sayd, He is dead.

20. ഉടനെ ദാവീദ് നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു കുളിച്ചു തൈലം പൂശി വസ്ത്രം മാറി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ചെന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; അരമനയില് വന്നു; അവന്റെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം അവര് ഭക്ഷണം അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു അവന് ഭക്ഷിച്ചു.

20. Then Dauid arose from the earth, and washed and anoynted himselfe, and changed his apparell, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped, and afterward came to his owne house, and bade that they should set bread before him, and he did eate.

21. അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുനീ ഈ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം നീ അവന്നു വേണ്ടി ഉപവസിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു; കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചശേഷം നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

21. Then saide his seruants vnto him, What thing is this, that thou hast done? thou diddest fast and weepe for the childe while it was aliue, but when the childe was dead, thou diddest rise vp, and eate meate.

22. അതിന്നു അവന് കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം ഞാന് ഉപവസിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു; കുഞ്ഞു ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം എന്നോടു ദയ ചെയ്യുമോ ഇല്ലയോ? ആര്ക്കും അറിയാം എന്നു ഞാന് വിചാരിച്ചു.

22. And he sayde, While the childe was yet aliue, I fasted, and wept: for I sayde, Who can tell whether God will haue mercy on me, that the childe may liue?

23. ഇപ്പോഴോ അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി; ഇനി ഞാന് ഉപവസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അവനെ മടക്കി വരുത്തുവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? ഞാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു പോകയല്ലാതെ അവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരികയില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But now being dead, wherefore shoulde I now fast? Can I bring him againe any more? I shall goe to him, but he shall not returne to me.

24. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ബത്ത്-ശേബയെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിച്ചു അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; അവള് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന് അവന്നു ശലോമോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. യഹോവ അവനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു.

24. And Dauid comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in vnto her, and lay with her, and she bare a sonne, and he called his name Salomon: also the Lord loued him.

25. അവന് നാഥാന് പ്രവാചകനെ നിയോഗിച്ചു; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ പ്രീതിനിമിത്തം അവന്നു യെദീദ്യാവു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

25. For the Lord had sent by Nathan the Prophet: therefore he called his name Iedidiah, because the Lord loued him.

26. എന്നാല് യോവാബ് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രബ്ബയോടു പൊരുതു രാജനഗരം പിടിച്ചു.

26. Then Ioab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and tooke the citie of the kingdome.

27. യോവാബ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഞാന് രബ്ബയോടു പൊരുതു ജലനഗരം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. Therefore Ioab sent messengers to Dauid, saying, I haue fought against Rabbah, and haue taken the citie of waters.

28. ആകയാല് ഞാന് നഗരം പിടിച്ചിട്ടു കീര്ത്തി എനിക്കാകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ശേഷം ജനത്തെ ഒരുമിച്ചു കൂട്ടി നഗരത്തിന്നു നേരെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി അതിനെ പിടിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

28. Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and besiege the city, that thou mayest take it, lest the victorie be attributed to me.

29. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി രബ്ബയിലേക്കു ചെന്നു പടവെട്ടി അതിനെ പിടിച്ചു.

29. So Dauid gathered al the people together, and went against Rabbah, and besieged it, and tooke it.

30. അവന് അവരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ കിരീടം അവന്റെ തലയില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു; അതിന്റെ തൂക്കം ഒരു താലന്തു പൊന്നു; അതിന്മേല് രത്നം പതിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവര് അതു ദാവീദിന്റെ തലയില് വെച്ചു; അവന് നഗരത്തില്നിന്നു അനവധി കൊള്ളയും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.

30. And he tooke their Kings crowne from his head, (which weighed a talent of golde, with precious stones) and it was set on Dauids head: and he brought away the spoyle of the citie in exceeding great abundance.

31. അവിടത്തെ ജനത്തെയും അവന് പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അവരെ ഈര്ച്ചവാളിന്നും മെതിവണ്ടിക്കും കോടാലിക്കും ആക്കി; അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഇഷ്ടികച്ചൂളയിലും വേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു; അമ്മോന്യരുടെ എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളോടും അവന് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദും സകല ജനവും യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

31. And he carryed away the people that was therein, and put them vnder sawes, and vnder yron harowes, and vnder axes of yron, and cast them into the tyle kylne: euen thus did he with all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then Dauid and all the people returned vnto Ierusalem.
