1. അനന്തരം യഹോവ നാഥാനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു. അവന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് രണ്ടു പുരുഷന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന് ധനവാന് , മറ്റവന് ദരിദ്രന് .

1. And the Lord sent Nathan vnto Dauid, and he came vnto him, and tolde him: There were two men in one citie, the one rich, & the other poore.

2. ധനവാന്നു ആടുമാടുകള് അനവധി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2. The rich man had exceeding many sheepe and oxen:

3. ദരിദ്രന്നോ താന് വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി വളര്ത്തിയ ഒരു പെണ്കുഞ്ഞാടല്ലാതെ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; അതു അവന്റെ അടുക്കലും അവന്റെ മക്കളുടെ അടുക്കലും വളര്ന്നുവന്നു; അതു അവന് തിന്നുന്നതില് ഔഹരി തിന്നുകയും അവന് കുടിക്കുന്നതില് ഔഹരി കുടിക്കയും അവന്റെ മടിയില് കിടക്കയും ചെയ്തു; അവന്നു ഒരു മകളെപ്പോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

3. But the poore had nothing saue one litle sheepe, which he had bought and nouryshed vp: And it grew vp with him and with his children also, and did eate of his owne meate, and drancke of his owne cuppe, & slept in his bosome, and was vnto him as his daughter.

4. ധനവാന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരു വഴിയാത്രക്കാരന് വന്നു; തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന വഴിപോക്കന്നുവേണ്ടി പാകംചെയ്വാന് സ്വന്ത ആടുമാടുകളില് ഒന്നിനെ എടുപ്പാന് മനസ്സാകാതെ, അവന് ആ ദരിദ്രന്റെ കുഞ്ഞാടിനെ പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള്ക്കുവേണ്ടി പാകം ചെയ്തു.

4. And there came a straunger vnto the rich man, and he spared to take of his owne sheepe and of his owne oxen to dresse for ye straunger that was come vnto him: But toke the poore mans sheepe, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

5. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദിന്റെ കോപം ആ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ ഏറ്റവും ജ്വലിച്ചു; അവന് നാഥാനോടുയഹോവയാണ, ഇതു ചെയ്തവന് മരണയോഗ്യന് .

5. And Dauid was exceeding wroth with the man, and saide to Nathan: As the Lorde lyueth, the man that hath done this thing is the childe of death.

6. അവന് കനിവില്ലാതെ ഈ കാര്യം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ആ ആടിന്നുവേണ്ടി നാലിരട്ടി പകരം കൊടുക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. He shal restore the lambe foure folde, because he did this thyng and had no pitie.

7. നാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുആ മനുഷ്യന് നീ തന്നേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു, നിന്നെ ശൌലിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു.

7. And Nathan saide to Dauid, Thou art the man: Thus saith the Lord God of Israel , I annoynted thee king ouer Israel, and ryd thee out of the hand of Saul.

8. ഞാന് നിനക്കു നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തെയും നിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തിലേക്കു നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരെയും തന്നു; യിസ്രായേല് ഗൃഹത്തെയും യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തെയും നിനക്കു തന്നു; പോരായെങ്കില് ഇന്നിന്നതും കൂടെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു തരുമായിരുന്നു.

8. I gaue thee thy maisters house, and thy maisters wyues into thy bosome, and gaue thee the house of Israel and of Iuda, and might (if that had ben to litle) haue geuen thee so muche more.

9. നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന നിരസിച്ചു അവന്നു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തതു എന്തിന്നു? ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു വെട്ടി അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുത്തു. അവനെ അമ്മോന്യരുടെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊല്ലിച്ചു.

9. Wherefore then hast thou despised the commaundement of the Lorde to do euill in his sight? Thou hast kild Urias the Hethite with the sword, & hast taken his wyfe to thy wyfe, and hast slaine him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

10. നീ എന്നെ നിരസിച്ചു ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവിന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുത്തതുകൊണ്ടു വാള് നിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തെ ഒരിക്കലും വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

10. Now therefore, the sword shall neuer depart from thyne house, because thou hast despised me, and taken the wyfe of Urias the Hethite to be thy wyfe.

11. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിന്റെ സ്വന്തഗൃഹത്തില്നിന്നു ഞാന് നിനക്കു അനര്ത്ഥം വരുത്തും; നീ കാണ്കെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരെ എടുത്തു നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു കൊടുക്കും; അവന് ഈ സൂര്യന്റെ വെട്ടത്തു തന്നേ നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്കും.

11. Wherefore thus saith the Lorde: Beholde, I will stirre vp euil against thee, euen out of thyne owne house, and wyll take thy wyues before thyne eyes, and geue them vnto thy neyghbour, and he shall lye with thy wyues in the sight of this sunne.

12. നീ അതു രഹസ്യത്തില് ചെയ്തു; ഞാനോ ഈ കാര്യം യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും കാണ്കെ സൂര്യന്റെ വെട്ടത്തു തന്നേ നടത്തും.

12. For thou diddest it secretly: but I wil do this thing before al Israel, and in the open sunne lyght.

13. ദാവീദ് നാഥാനോടുഞാന് യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു നാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുയഹോവ നിന്റെ പാപം മോചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ മരിക്കയില്ല.

13. And Dauid saide vnto Nathan: I haue sinned against the Lord. And Nathan saide vnto Dauid: The Lord also hath put away thy sinne, thou shalt not dye.

14. എങ്കിലും നീ ഈ പ്രവൃത്തിയില് യഹോവയുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് ദൂഷണം പറവാന് ഹേതു ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതു കൊണ്ടു നിനക്കു ജനിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചു പോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നാഥാന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി.

14. Howbeit, because in doing this deede thou hast geuen ye enemies of the Lord a cause to blaspheme, the childe that is borne vnto thee shall surely dye.

15. ഊരീയാവിന്റെ ഭാര്യ ദാവീദിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച കുഞ്ഞിനെ യഹോവ ബാധിച്ചു, അതിന്നു കഠിനരോഗം പിടിച്ചു.

15. And Nathan departed vnto his house: And the Lorde strake the childe that Urias wyfe bare vnto Dauid, and it sickened sore.

16. ദാവീദ് കുഞ്ഞിന്നുവേണ്ടി ദൈവത്തോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; ദാവീദ് ഉപവസിക്കയും അകത്തു കടന്നു രാത്രി മുഴുവനും നിലത്തു കിടക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

16. Dauid therefore besought God for the childe, and fasted, and went in, & laye all night vpon the earth.

17. അവന്റെ ഗൃഹപ്രമാണികള് അവനെ നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേല്പിപ്പാന് ഉത്സാഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അരികെ നിന്നു; എന്നാല് അവന്നു മനസ്സായില്ല. അവരോടു കൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചതുമില്ല.

17. And the elders of his house arose and went to him, to take him vp from the earth: But he would not, neither did he eate meate with them.

18. എന്നാല് ഏഴാം ദിവസം കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയി. കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചു എന്നു ദാവീദിനെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഭൃത്യന്മാര് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു. കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം നാം സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് നമ്മുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കെ കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു നാം അവനോടു എങ്ങനെ പറയും? അവന് തനിക്കുതന്നേ വല്ല കേടും വരുത്തും എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And the seuenth day the childe dyed, and the seruauntes of Dauid feared to tell him that the childe was dead: For they said, beholde, while the childe was yet alyue we spake vnto hym, and he would not hearke vnto our voyce: how will he then vexe him selfe, if we tell him that the childe is dead?

19. ഭൃത്യന്മാര് തമ്മില് മന്ത്രിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോള് കുഞ്ഞുമരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു ദാവീദ് ഗ്രഹിച്ചു, തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുകുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

19. But Dauid seing his seruautes whispering, perceaued that the childe was dead: & Dauid said vnto his seruauntes, Is the childe dead? They saide: He is dead.

20. ഉടനെ ദാവീദ് നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു കുളിച്ചു തൈലം പൂശി വസ്ത്രം മാറി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ചെന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; അരമനയില് വന്നു; അവന്റെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം അവര് ഭക്ഷണം അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു അവന് ഭക്ഷിച്ചു.

20. And Dauid arose from the earth, and washed and annoynted him selfe, and chaunged his apparell, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: and afterward came to his owne house, & bad that they should set bread before him, and he dyd eate.

21. അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുനീ ഈ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം നീ അവന്നു വേണ്ടി ഉപവസിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു; കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചശേഷം നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

21. Then said his seruauntes vnto him: What thing is this that thou hast done? Thou diddest fast & weepe for the childe while it was alyue, & assoone as it was dead, thou diddest ryse vp & eate meate.

22. അതിന്നു അവന് കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം ഞാന് ഉപവസിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു; കുഞ്ഞു ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം എന്നോടു ദയ ചെയ്യുമോ ഇല്ലയോ? ആര്ക്കും അറിയാം എന്നു ഞാന് വിചാരിച്ചു.

22. He said: While the childe was yet ailue I fasted and wept: for this I thought, Who can tell whether God wyll haue mercy on me, that the childe may lyue?

23. ഇപ്പോഴോ അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി; ഇനി ഞാന് ഉപവസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അവനെ മടക്കി വരുത്തുവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? ഞാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു പോകയല്ലാതെ അവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരികയില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But now seeing it is dead, wherefore should I fast? Can I bring him againe any more? I shall go to him, rather then he shall come againe to me.

24. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ബത്ത്-ശേബയെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിച്ചു അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; അവള് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന് അവന്നു ശലോമോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. യഹോവ അവനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു.

24. And Dauid comforted Bethsabe his wyfe, & went in vnto her and lay with her, and she bare a sonne, and he called his name Solomon, and the Lord loued him,

25. അവന് നാഥാന് പ്രവാചകനെ നിയോഗിച്ചു; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ പ്രീതിനിമിത്തം അവന്നു യെദീദ്യാവു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

25. And had sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet: therefore he called his name Iedidia, of the Lordes behalfe.

26. എന്നാല് യോവാബ് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രബ്ബയോടു പൊരുതു രാജനഗരം പിടിച്ചു.

26. Then Ioab fought against Rabba of the children of Ammon, and toke the citie of the kingdome.

27. യോവാബ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഞാന് രബ്ബയോടു പൊരുതു ജലനഗരം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. And Ioab sent messengers to Dauid, saying: I haue fought against Rabba, and haue taken the citie of waters.

28. ആകയാല് ഞാന് നഗരം പിടിച്ചിട്ടു കീര്ത്തി എനിക്കാകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ശേഷം ജനത്തെ ഒരുമിച്ചു കൂട്ടി നഗരത്തിന്നു നേരെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി അതിനെ പിടിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

28. Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and besiege the citie, that thou mayst take it: lest I take it, & it be called after my name.

29. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി രബ്ബയിലേക്കു ചെന്നു പടവെട്ടി അതിനെ പിടിച്ചു.

29. And Dauid gathered al the people together, & went against Rabba, and besieged it, and toke it.

30. അവന് അവരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ കിരീടം അവന്റെ തലയില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു; അതിന്റെ തൂക്കം ഒരു താലന്തു പൊന്നു; അതിന്മേല് രത്നം പതിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവര് അതു ദാവീദിന്റെ തലയില് വെച്ചു; അവന് നഗരത്തില്നിന്നു അനവധി കൊള്ളയും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.

30. And he toke their kinges crowne from of his head (which wayed a talent of golde, & in it were precious stones) and it was set on Dauids head, and he brought away the spoyle of the citie, in exceeding great abundaunce.

31. അവിടത്തെ ജനത്തെയും അവന് പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അവരെ ഈര്ച്ചവാളിന്നും മെതിവണ്ടിക്കും കോടാലിക്കും ആക്കി; അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഇഷ്ടികച്ചൂളയിലും വേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു; അമ്മോന്യരുടെ എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളോടും അവന് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദും സകല ജനവും യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

31. And he caryed away the people that was therein, & put them vnder sawes, and vnder iron harrowes, and vnder axes of iron, & thrust them into the tylekyll: thus dyd he with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And so Dauid and al the people returned vnto Hierusalem.
