1. അനന്തരം ദാവീദ് തന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ജനത്തെ എണ്ണിനോക്കി; അവര്ക്കും സഹസ്രാധിപന്മാരെയും ശതാധിപന്മാരെയും നിയമിച്ചു.

1. And David mustered the people who were with him, and he set over them commanders of hundreds.

2. ദാവീദ് ജനത്തില് മൂന്നില് ഒരു പങ്കു യോവാബിന്റെ കൈക്കീഴും മൂന്നില് ഒരു പങ്കു സെരൂയയുടെ മകനും യോവാബിന്റെ സഹോദരനും ആയ അബീശായിയുടെ കൈക്കീഴും മൂന്നില് ഒരു പങ്കു ഗിത്യനായ ഇത്ഥായിയുടെ കൈക്കീഴും അയച്ചുഞാനും നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരും എന്നു രാജാവു ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And David sent one third of the people by the hand of Joab, and one third by the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and one third by Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people. Going out I will go with you, I also.

3. എന്നാല് ജനംനീ വരേണ്ടാ; ഞങ്ങള് തോറ്റോടി എന്നു വരികില് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കാര്യം ആരും ഗണ്യമാക്കുകയില്ല; ഞങ്ങളില് പാതിപേര് പട്ടുപോയി എന്നുവരികിലും അതാരും ഗണ്യമാക്കുകയില്ല; നീയോ ഞങ്ങളില് പതിനായിരം പേര്ക്കും തുല്യന് . ആകയാല് നീ പട്ടണത്തില് ഇരുന്നുകൊണ്ടു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു സഹായം ചെയ്യുന്നതു നല്ലതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And the people said, You shall not go out, for if we flee they will not set their heart on us even if half of us die; for now you are like ten thousand to us. And now it is good that you be a helper for us from the city.

4. രാജാവു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉത്തമം എന്നു തോന്നുന്നതു ഞാന് ചെയ്യാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ രാജാവു പടിവാതില്ക്കല് നിന്നു; ജനമൊക്കെയും നൂറുനൂറായും ആയിരമായിരമായും പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

4. And the king said to them, I will do that which is good in your eyes. And the king stood at the side of the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.

5. അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരനോടു എന്നെ ഔര്ത്തു കനിവോടെ പെരുമാറുവിന് എന്നു രാജാവു യോവാബിനോടും അബീശായിയോടും ഇത്ഥായിയോടും കല്പിച്ചു. രാജാവു അധിപതിമാരോടൊക്കെയും അബ്ശാലോമിനെക്കുറിച്ചു കല്പിക്കുമ്പോള് ജനമെല്ലാം കേട്ടു.

5. And the king commanded Joab, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, For my sake deal gently with the young man, with Absalom. And all the people heard as the king commanded the commanders concerning Absalom.

6. പിന്നെ ജനം പടനിലത്തേക്കു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; എഫ്രയീംവനത്തില്വെച്ചു പടയുണ്ടായി.

6. And the people went into the field to meet Israel. And the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.

7. യിസ്രായേല് ജനം ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകരോടു തോറ്റു. അന്നു അവിടെ ഒരു മഹാസംഹാരം നടന്നു ഇരുപതിനായിരം പേര് പട്ടുപോയി.

7. And the people of Israel were stricken before David's servants. And there was a great destruction on that day of twenty thousand.

8. പട ആ ദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും പരന്നു; അന്നു വാളിന്നിരയായതിലും അധികം പേര് വനത്തിന്നിരയായ്തീര്ന്നു.

8. And the battle was scattered over the face of all the land, and the forest devoured among the people more than the sword had devoured in that day.

9. അബ്ശാലോം ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകര്ക്കും എതിര്പ്പെട്ടു; അബ്ശാലോം കോവര്കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു ഔടിച്ചുപോകുമ്പോള് കോവര്കഴുത കൊമ്പു തിങ്ങിനിലക്കുന്ന ഒരു വലിയ കരുവേലകത്തിന് കീഴെ എത്തി; അവന്റെ തലമുടി കരുവേലകത്തില് പിടിപെട്ടിട്ടു അവന് ആകാശത്തിന്നും ഭൂമിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ തൂങ്ങി; അവന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു കോവര്കഴുത ഔടിപ്പോയി.

9. And Absalom came before David's servants. And Absalom was riding on a mule, and the mule came in under the thick branches of a great oak. And his head caught hold in the oak, and he was lifted up between the heavens and the earth. And the mule under him passed on.

10. ഒരുത്തന് അതു കണ്ടിട്ടുഅബ്ശാലോം ഒരു കരുവേലകത്തില് തൂങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നതു ഞാന് കണ്ടു എന്നു യോവാബിനോടു അറിയിച്ചു.

10. And a man saw and told Joab, and said, Behold! I saw Absalom hanging in the oak;

11. യോവാബ് തന്നെ അറിയിച്ചവനോടുനീ അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവിടെവെച്ചുതന്നേ വെട്ടിക്കളയാഞ്ഞതു എന്തു? ഞാന് നിനക്കു പത്തു ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളിയും ഒരു അരക്കച്ചയും തരുമായിരുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. and Joab said to the man who told him, And behold, you have seen. And why did you not strike him to the earth there and call on me to give you ten silverlings and a girdle?

12. അവന് യോവാബിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുആയിരം ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളി എനിക്കു തന്നാലും ഞാന് രാജകുമാരന്റെ നേരെ കൈ നീട്ടുകയില്ല; അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരനെ ആരും തൊടാതിരിപ്പാന് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്വിന് എന്നു രാജാവു നിന്നോടും അബീശായിയോടും ഇത്ഥായിയോടും ഞങ്ങള് കേള്ക്കെയല്ലോ കല്പിച്ചതു.

12. And the man said to Joab, Yes, though I weighed a thousand silverlings in my hand, I would not put forth my hand to the king's son. For in our ears the king commanded you, and Abishai, and Ittai saying, Take heed, whoever goes against the young man, against Absalom.

13. അല്ല, ഞാന് അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ ദ്രോഹിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കില്--രാജാവിന്നു ഒന്നും മറവായിരിക്കയില്ലല്ലോ--നീ തന്നേ എന്നോടു അകന്നു നിലക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

13. Or I would have dealt falsely against my soul. For no matter is hidden from the king, and you, you yourself would have set against me.

14. എന്നാല് യോവാബ്ഞാന് ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചു നേരം കളകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു മൂന്നു കുന്തം കയ്യില് എടുത്തു അബ്ശാലോം കരുവേലകത്തില് ജീവനോടു തൂങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ അവയെ അവന്റെ നെഞ്ചിന്നകത്തു കുത്തിക്കടത്തി.

14. And Joab said, I will not wait this wait before you. And he took three darts in his hand and struck them into Absalom's heart while he was alive, in the midst of the oak.

15. യോവാബിന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകന്മാരായ പത്തു ബാല്യക്കാര് വളഞ്ഞു നിന്നു അബ്ശാലോമിനെ അടിച്ചുകൊന്നു.

15. And they went around, ten young men bearing Joab's weapons, and struck Absalom, and killed him.

16. പിന്നെ യോവാബ് കാഹളം ഊതി; യോവാബ് ജനത്തെ വിലക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് യിസ്രായേലിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതു വിട്ടുമടങ്ങി.

16. And Joab blew the ram's horn, and the people returned from pursuing Israel, for Joab had held the people back.

17. അബ്ശാലോമിനെ അവര് എടുത്തു വനത്തില് ഒരു വലിയ കുഴിയില് ഇട്ടു; അവന്റെ മേല് ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു കല്ക്കൂമ്പാരം കൂട്ടി; യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

17. And they took Absalom and threw him into a great pit in the forest, and set up a very great heap of stones over him. And all Israel fled, each one to his tent.

18. അബ്ശാലോം ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയംഎന്റെ പേര് നിലനിര്ത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു മകനില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, രാജാവിന് താഴ്വരയിലെ തൂണ് എടുത്തു നാട്ടി അതിന്നു തന്റെ പേര് വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു; അതിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ ജ്ഞാപക സ്തംഭം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

18. And during his lifetime Absalom had taken and set up for himself a standing-pillar, which is in the King's Valley. For he said, I have no son to cause my name to be remembered. And he called the standing pillar by his name and it is called Absalom's Monument to this day.

19. അനന്തരം സാദോക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമാസ്ഞാന് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു രാജാവിനോടു, യഹോവ അവന്നുവേണ്ടി ശത്രുക്കളോടു പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്ന സദ്വര്ത്തമാനം അറിയിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, Please let me run, and I will bear news to the king. For Jehovah has vindicated him from the hand of his enemies.

20. യോവാബ് അവനോടുനീ ഇന്നു സദ്വര്ത്തമാന ദൂതനാകയില്ല; ഇനി ഒരു ദിവസം സദ്വര്ത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുപോകാം; രാജകുമാരന് മരിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു നീ ഇന്നു സദ്വര്ത്തമാന ദൂതനാകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And Joab said to him, You are not a man of tidings today. But you shall bear tidings another day. And today you shall not bear tidings, because the king's son is dead.

21. പിന്നെ യോവാബ് കൂശ്യനോടുനി കണ്ടതു രാജാവിനെ ചെന്നു അറിയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. കൂശ്യന് യോവാബിനെ വണങ്ങി ഔടി. സാദോക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമാസ് പിന്നെയും യോവാബിനോടുഏതായാലും ഞാനും കൂശ്യന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ഔടട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. And Joab said to Cushi, Go, tell the king that which you have seen. And Cushi bowed to Joab, and ran.

22. അതിന്നു യോവാബ്എന്റെ മകനേ, നീ എന്തിന്നു ഔടുന്നു? നിനക്കു പ്രതിഫലം കിട്ടുകയില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, Yet whatever may be, please let me run after the Cushite, I also. And Joab said, Why is this that you are running, my son? Also for you there are no tidings found.

23. അവന് പിന്നെയുംഏതായാലും ഞാന് ഔടും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎന്നാല് ഔടിക്കൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അഹീമാസ് സമഭൂമിവഴിയായി ഔടി കൂശ്യനെ കടന്നുപോയി.

23. And he said, Yet whatever it may be, let me run. And he said to him, Run. And Ahimaaz ran the way of the circuit and passed by the Cushite.

24. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ് രണ്ടു പടിവാതിലിന്നു മദ്ധ്യേ ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു. കാവല്ക്കാരന് പടിവാതിലിന്നും മീതെ മതിലിന്റെ മുകളില് കയറി തല ഉയര്ത്തിനോക്കി ഒരുത്തന് തനിച്ചു ഔടിവരുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

24. And David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went to the roof of the gate and lifted up his eyes, and looked. And, behold, a man running by himself!

25. കാവല്ക്കാരന് രാജാവിനോടു വിളിച്ചു അറിയിച്ചു. അവന് ഏകന് എങ്കില് സദ്വര്ത്തമാനവും കൊണ്ടാകുന്നു വരുന്നതു എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. And the watchman called and told the king. And the king said, If he is by himself, tidings are in his mouth. And he came, coming on, and drawing near.

26. അവന് നടന്നു അടുത്തു. പിന്നെ കാവല്ക്കാരന് മറ്റൊരുത്തന് ഔടിവരുന്നതു കണ്ടു; കാവല്ക്കാരന് വാതില് കാക്കുന്നവനോടുഇതാ, പിന്നെയും ഒരു ആള് തനിച്ചു ഔടി വരുന്നു എന്നു വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. അവനും സദ്വര്ത്തമാനദൂതനാകുന്നു എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. And the watchman saw another man running. And the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, Behold, a man running by himself! And the king said, Also this one is bearing tidings.

27. ഒന്നാമത്തവന്റെ ഔട്ടം സാദോക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമാസിന്റെ ഔട്ടം പോലെ എനിക്കു തോന്നുന്നു എന്നു കാവല്ക്കാരന് പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു രാജാവുഅവന് നല്ലവന് ; നല്ലവര്ത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And the watchman said, I see the running of the first as the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, This is a good man and he comes with good news.

28. അഹീമാസ് രാജാവിനോടു ശുഭം, ശുഭം എന്നു വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പില് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചുയജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ നേരെ കൈ ഔങ്ങിയവരെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതന്ന നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ സ്തുതിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. And Ahimaaz called and said to the king, Peace! And he bowed on his face to the earth to the king and said, Blessed be Jehovah your God who has shut up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

29. അപ്പോള് രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരന് സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അഹീമാസ്യോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭൃത്യനെയും അടിയനെയും അയക്കുമ്പോള് വലിയോരു കലഹം കണ്ടു; എന്നാല് അതു എന്തെന്നു ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. And the king said, Peace to the young man, to Absalom? And Ahimaaz said, I saw the great tumult, at the sending away of the servant of the king, even your servant sent by Joab, but I do not know what.

30. നീ അവിടെ മാറി നില്ക്ക എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് മാറിനിന്നു.

30. And the king said, Turn aside, stand here. And he turned aside and stood.

31. ഉടനെ കൂശ്യന് വന്നുയജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്നു ഇതാ നല്ല വര്ത്തമാനം; നിന്നോടു എതിര്ത്ത എല്ലാവരോടും യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കൂശ്യന് പറഞ്ഞു.

31. And, behold, the Cushite had come. And the Cushite said, News is borne, my lord, O king! For Jehovah has vindicated you today out of the hand of those rising up against you.

32. അപ്പോള് രാജാവു കൂശ്യനോടുഅബ്ശാലോംകുമാരന് സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു കൂശ്യന് യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളും നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് എഴുന്നേലക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവരും ആ കുമാരനെപ്പോലെ ആകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. And the king said to the Cushite, Peace to the young man, to Absalom? And the Cushite said, Let them be as the young man, the enemies of my lord the king, and all who have risen up against you for evil.

33. ഉടനെ രാജാവു നടുങ്ങി പടിപ്പുരമാളികയില് കയറിഎന്റെ മകനേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, ഞാന് നിനക്കു പകരം മരിച്ചെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു; അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, എന്റെ മകനേ! എന്നിങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു നടന്നു.

33. And the king trembled. And he went up to the upper room of the gate and wept. And he said this as he went, My son! My son Absalom! My son Absalom! Oh that I had died instead of you, my son Absalom, my son!
