1. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ പതിനെട്ടാം ആണ്ടില് ആഹാബിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോരാം ശമര്യ്യയില് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായി; അവന് പന്ത്രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം വാണു.

1. Ahab's son Jehoram became the king of Israel at Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah. He ruled for twelve years.

2. അവന് യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായതു ചെയ്തു; തന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയേയും പോലെ അല്ലതാനും; തന്റെ അപ്പന് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ബാല്വിഗ്രഹം അവന് നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

2. Jehoram did what was bad in the eyes of the Lord, but not like his father and mother. For he put away the object of Baal which his father had made.

3. എന്നാലും യിസ്രായേലിനെക്കൊണ്ടു പാപം ചെയ്യിച്ച നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ അവന് വിട്ടുമാറാതെ മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചു.

3. But he held on to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel sin. He did not leave them.

4. മോവാബ് രാജാവായ മേശെക്കു അനവധി ആടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിന്നു ഒരു ലക്ഷം കുഞ്ഞാടുകളുടെയും ഒരു ലക്ഷം ആട്ടുകൊറ്റന്മാരുടെയും രോമം കൊടുത്തുവന്നു.

4. Now Mesha king of Moab raised sheep. He had to pay the king of Israel 100,000 lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams each year.

5. എന്നാല് ആഹാബ് മരിച്ചശേഷം മോവാബ് രാജാവു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനോടു മത്സരിച്ചു.

5. But when Ahab died, the king of Moab turned against the king of Israel.

6. ആ കാലത്തു യെഹോരാം രാജാവു ശമര്യ്യയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഒക്കെയും എണ്ണിനോക്കി.

6. So King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time and called all Israel together.

7. പിന്നെ അവന് മോവാബ്രാജാവു എന്നോടു മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മോവാബ്യരോടു യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു നീ കൂടെ പോരുമോ എന്നു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടു ആളയച്ചു ചോദിപ്പിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവന് ഞാന് പോരാം; നീയും ഞാനും എന്റെ ജനവും നിന്റെ ജനവും എന്റെ കുതിരകളും നിന്റെ കുതിരകളും ഒരുപോലെയല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. Then he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, 'The king of Moab has turned against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?' And Jehoshaphat said, 'I will go. I am as you are. My people are as your people. My horses are as your horses.'

8. നാം ഏതു വഴിയായി പോകേണം എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഎദോംമരുഭൂമിവഴിയായി തന്നേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then he said, 'Which way should we go?' And he answered, 'By the way of the desert of Edom.'

9. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു യെഹൂദാരാജാവും എദോംരാജാവുമായി പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് ഏഴു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി ചുറ്റിനടന്നശേഷം അവരോടുകൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യത്തിന്നും മൃഗങ്ങള്ക്കും വെള്ളം കിട്ടാതെയായി.

9. So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom. They traveled around for seven days, but there was no water for the army or the cattle that followed them.

10. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവുഅയ്യോ, ഈ മൂന്നു രാജാക്കന്മാരെയും യഹോവ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തിയതു അവരെ മോവാബ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. The king of Israel said, 'It is bad! For the Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.'

11. എന്നാല് യഹോശാഫാത്ത്നാം യഹോവയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ പ്രവാചകന് ആരുമില്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ഏലീയാവിന്റെ കൈകൂ വെള്ളം ഒഴിച്ച ശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകന് എലീശാ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. But Jehoshaphat said, 'Is there not a man who speaks for God here? Is there no one we can ask to learn what the Lord would have us do?' One of the servants of the king of Israel answered, 'Elisha the son of Shaphat is here. He poured water on the hands of Elijah.'

12. അവന്റെ പക്കല് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവും യെഹോശാഫാത്തും എദോംരാജാവും കൂടെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

12. And Jehoshaphat said, 'The word of the Lord is with him.' So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13. എലീശാ യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവിനോടുഎനിക്കും നിനക്കും തമ്മില് എന്തു? നീ നിന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലും നിന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലും ചെല്ലുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു അവനോടുഅങ്ങനെയല്ല; ഈ മൂന്നു രാജാക്കന്മാരെയും മോവാബ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ അവരെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. Elisha said to the king of Israel, 'What have I to do with you? Go to the men who tell what will happen in the future that your father and mother have gone to.' And the king of Israel said to him, 'No. It is the Lord Who has called these three kings together to give them into the hand of Moab.'

14. അതിന്നു എലീശാഞാന് സേവിച്ചുനിലക്കുന്ന സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയാണ, യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മുഖം ഞാന് ആദരിച്ചില്ല എങ്കില് ഞാന് നിന്നെ നോക്കുകയോ കടാക്ഷിക്കയോ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു;

14. Elisha said, 'As the Lord of all lives, before Whom I stand, if I did not care for Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you or see you.

15. എന്നാല് ഇപ്പോള് ഒരു വീണക്കാരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. വീണക്കാരന് വായിക്കുമ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ കൈ അവന്റെമേല് വന്നു.

15. But now bring me a man who plays music.' And when the man played music, the power of the Lord came upon Elisha.

16. അവന് പറഞ്ഞതു എന്തെന്നാല്യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഈ താഴ്വരയില് അനേകം കുഴികള് വെട്ടുവിന് .

16. He said, 'This is what the Lord says, 'Make this valley full of ditches.'

17. നിങ്ങള് കാറ്റു കാണുകയില്ല, മഴയും കാണുകയില്ല; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങളും നിങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകളും നിങ്ങളുടെ മൃഗവാഹനങ്ങളും കുടിക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഈ താഴ്വര വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു നിറയും.

17. For the Lord says, 'You will not see wind or rain. But that valley will be filled with water so that you and your cattle and your animals will drink.'

18. ഇതു പോരാ എന്നു യഹോവേക്കു തോന്നീട്ടു അവന് മോവാബ്യരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുതരും.

18. This is only a small thing in the eyes of the Lord. He will give you the Moabites also.

19. നിങ്ങള് ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളും ശ്രേഷ്ഠനഗരങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം ജയിച്ചടക്കുകയും നല്ലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളെല്ലാം മുറിക്കയും നീരുറവുകളെല്ലാം അടെച്ചുകളകയും നല്ല നിലങ്ങളെല്ലാം കല്ലുവാരിയിട്ടു ചീത്തയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

19. Then you will destroy every strong city and cut down every good tree. You will close all the wells of water, and destroy every good piece of land with stones.'

20. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ ഭോജനയാഗത്തിന്റെ സമയത്തു വെള്ളം എദോംവഴിയായി വരുന്നതുകണ്ടു; ദേശം വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു.

20. The next morning, about the time when the gift is given on the altar, water came by the way of Edom. The country was filled with water.

21. എന്നാല് ഈ രാജാക്കന്മാര് തങ്ങളോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു എന്നു മോവാബ്യരൊക്കെയും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര് ആയുധം ധരിപ്പാന് തക്ക പ്രായത്തിലും മേലോട്ടുമുള്ളവരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അതിരിങ്കല് ചെന്നുനിന്നു.

21. Now all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. All who were able to wear battle-clothes, young and old, were called together. And they stood at the side of the land of Moab.

22. രാവിലെ അവര് എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് സൂര്യന് വെള്ളത്തിന്മേല് ഉദിച്ചിട്ടു മോവാബ്യര്ക്കും തങ്ങളുടെ നേരെയുള്ള വെള്ളം രക്തംപോലെ ചുവപ്പായി തോന്നി

22. They got up early in the morning. The sun was shining on the water. And the Moabites saw that the water beside them was as red as blood.

23. അതു രക്തമാകുന്നു; ആ രാജാക്കന്മാര് തമ്മില് പൊരുതു അന്യോന്യം സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; ആകയാല് മോവാബ്യരേ, കൊള്ളെക്കു വരുവിന് എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

23. They said, 'This is blood. For sure the kings have fought and killed one another. So now, Moab, let us take what is left!'

24. അവര് യിസ്രായേല്പാളയത്തിങ്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്യര് എഴുന്നേറ്റു മോവാബ്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചോടിച്ചു; അവര് ദേശത്തില് കടന്നുചെന്നു മോവാബ്യരെ പിന്നെയും തോല്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

24. But when they came to the tents of Israel, the Israelites came and fought against the Moabites. The Moabites ran from them. And Israel went on into the land, killing the Moabites.

25. പട്ടണങ്ങളെ അവര് ഇടിച്ചു നല്ലനിലമൊക്കെയും ഔരോരുത്തന് ഔരോ കല്ലു ഇട്ടു നികത്തി നീരുറവുകളെല്ലാം അടെച്ചു നല്ലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളെല്ലാം മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; കീര്ഹരേശെത്തില് മാത്രം അവര് അതിന്റെ കല്ലു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ വിട്ടേച്ചു. എന്നാല് കവിണക്കാര് അതിനെ വളഞ്ഞു നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

25. So they destroyed the cities. Each man threw a stone on every piece of good land until it was covered. They closed all the wells of water and cut down all the good trees. Only the stones of Kir-hareseth were left standing. But the stone-throwers went around it and fought against it.

26. മോവാബ്രാജാവു പട തനിക്കു അതിവിഷമമായി എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള് എദോംരാജാവിനെ അണിമുറിച്ചാക്രമിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എഴുനൂറു ആയുധ പാണികളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു; എങ്കിലും സാധിച്ചില്ല.

26. The king of Moab saw that the battle was too hard for him. So he took with him 700 men who used the sword, to break through to the king of Edom. But they could not.

27. ആകയാല് അവന് തന്റെ ശേഷം വാഴുവാനുള്ള ആദ്യജാതനെ പിടിച്ചു മതിലിന്മേല് ദഹനയാഗം കഴിച്ചു. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെമേല് മഹാകോപം വന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവനെ വിട്ടു സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

27. Then he took his oldest son who was to rule in his place, and gave him as a burnt gift on the wall. And many became very angry toward Israel. They left him and returned to their own land.
