1. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ പതിനെട്ടാം ആണ്ടില് ആഹാബിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോരാം ശമര്യ്യയില് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായി; അവന് പന്ത്രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം വാണു.

1. And Jehoram son of Ahab hath reigned over Israel, in Samaria, in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigneth twelve years,

2. അവന് യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായതു ചെയ്തു; തന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയേയും പോലെ അല്ലതാനും; തന്റെ അപ്പന് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ബാല്വിഗ്രഹം അവന് നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

2. and doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, only not like his father, and like his mother, and he turneth aside the standing-pillar of Baal that his father made;

3. എന്നാലും യിസ്രായേലിനെക്കൊണ്ടു പാപം ചെയ്യിച്ച നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ അവന് വിട്ടുമാറാതെ മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചു.

3. only to the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat that he caused Israel to sin he hath cleaved, he hath not turned aside from it.

4. മോവാബ് രാജാവായ മേശെക്കു അനവധി ആടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിന്നു ഒരു ലക്ഷം കുഞ്ഞാടുകളുടെയും ഒരു ലക്ഷം ആട്ടുകൊറ്റന്മാരുടെയും രോമം കൊടുത്തുവന്നു.

4. And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master, and he rendered to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and a hundred thousand rams, [with] wool,

5. എന്നാല് ആഹാബ് മരിച്ചശേഷം മോവാബ് രാജാവു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനോടു മത്സരിച്ചു.

5. and it cometh to pass at the death of Ahab, that the king of Moab transgresseth against the king of Israel.

6. ആ കാലത്തു യെഹോരാം രാജാവു ശമര്യ്യയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഒക്കെയും എണ്ണിനോക്കി.

6. And king Jehoram goeth out in that day from Samaria, and inspecteth all Israel,

7. പിന്നെ അവന് മോവാബ്രാജാവു എന്നോടു മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മോവാബ്യരോടു യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു നീ കൂടെ പോരുമോ എന്നു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടു ആളയച്ചു ചോദിപ്പിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവന് ഞാന് പോരാം; നീയും ഞാനും എന്റെ ജനവും നിന്റെ ജനവും എന്റെ കുതിരകളും നിന്റെ കുതിരകളും ഒരുപോലെയല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. and goeth and sendeth unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, 'The king of Moab hath transgressed against me; dost thou go with me unto Moab for battle?' and he saith, 'I go up, as I, so thou; as my people, so thy people; as my horses, so thy horses.

8. നാം ഏതു വഴിയായി പോകേണം എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഎദോംമരുഭൂമിവഴിയായി തന്നേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And he saith, 'Where [is] this -- the way we go up?' and he saith, 'The way of the wilderness of Edom.'

9. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു യെഹൂദാരാജാവും എദോംരാജാവുമായി പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് ഏഴു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി ചുറ്റിനടന്നശേഷം അവരോടുകൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യത്തിന്നും മൃഗങ്ങള്ക്കും വെള്ളം കിട്ടാതെയായി.

9. And the king of Israel goeth, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom, and they turn round the way seven days, and there hath been no water for the camp, and for the cattle that [are] at their feet,

10. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവുഅയ്യോ, ഈ മൂന്നു രാജാക്കന്മാരെയും യഹോവ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തിയതു അവരെ മോവാബ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. and the king of Israel saith, 'Alas, for Jehovah hath called for these three kings, to give them into the hand of Moab.'

11. എന്നാല് യഹോശാഫാത്ത്നാം യഹോവയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ പ്രവാചകന് ആരുമില്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ഏലീയാവിന്റെ കൈകൂ വെള്ളം ഒഴിച്ച ശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകന് എലീശാ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And Jehoshaphat saith, 'Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah, and we seek Jehovah by him?' And one of the servants of the king of Israel answereth and saith, 'Here [is] Elisha son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.'

12. അവന്റെ പക്കല് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവും യെഹോശാഫാത്തും എദോംരാജാവും കൂടെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

12. And Jehoshaphat saith, 'The word of Jehovah is with him;' and go down unto him do the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom.

13. എലീശാ യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവിനോടുഎനിക്കും നിനക്കും തമ്മില് എന്തു? നീ നിന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലും നിന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലും ചെല്ലുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു അവനോടുഅങ്ങനെയല്ല; ഈ മൂന്നു രാജാക്കന്മാരെയും മോവാബ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ അവരെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. And Elisha saith unto the king of Israel, 'What -- to me and to thee? go unto the prophets of thy father, and unto the prophets of thy mother;' and the king of Israel saith to him, 'Nay, for Jehovah hath called for these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.'

14. അതിന്നു എലീശാഞാന് സേവിച്ചുനിലക്കുന്ന സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയാണ, യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മുഖം ഞാന് ആദരിച്ചില്ല എങ്കില് ഞാന് നിന്നെ നോക്കുകയോ കടാക്ഷിക്കയോ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു;

14. And Elisha saith, 'Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood; for unless the face of Jehoshaphat king of Judah I am lifting up, I do not look unto thee, nor see thee;

15. എന്നാല് ഇപ്പോള് ഒരു വീണക്കാരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. വീണക്കാരന് വായിക്കുമ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ കൈ അവന്റെമേല് വന്നു.

15. and now, bring to me a minstrel; and it hath been, at the playing of the minstrel, that the hand of Jehovah is on him,

16. അവന് പറഞ്ഞതു എന്തെന്നാല്യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഈ താഴ്വരയില് അനേകം കുഴികള് വെട്ടുവിന് .

16. and he saith, 'Thus said Jehovah, Make this valley ditches -- ditches;

17. നിങ്ങള് കാറ്റു കാണുകയില്ല, മഴയും കാണുകയില്ല; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങളും നിങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകളും നിങ്ങളുടെ മൃഗവാഹനങ്ങളും കുടിക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഈ താഴ്വര വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു നിറയും.

17. for thus said Jehovah, Ye do not see wind, nor do ye see rain, and that valley is full of water, and ye have drunk -- ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

18. ഇതു പോരാ എന്നു യഹോവേക്കു തോന്നീട്ടു അവന് മോവാബ്യരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുതരും.

18. 'And this hath been light in the eyes of Jehovah, and he hath given Moab into your hand,

19. നിങ്ങള് ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളും ശ്രേഷ്ഠനഗരങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം ജയിച്ചടക്കുകയും നല്ലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളെല്ലാം മുറിക്കയും നീരുറവുകളെല്ലാം അടെച്ചുകളകയും നല്ല നിലങ്ങളെല്ലാം കല്ലുവാരിയിട്ടു ചീത്തയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

19. and ye have smitten every fenced city, and every choice city, and every good tree ye cause to fall, and all fountains of waters ye stop, and every good portion ye mar with stones.'

20. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ ഭോജനയാഗത്തിന്റെ സമയത്തു വെള്ളം എദോംവഴിയായി വരുന്നതുകണ്ടു; ദേശം വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു.

20. And it cometh to pass in the morning, at the ascending of the [morning] -present, that lo, waters are coming in from the way of Edom, and the land is filled with the waters,

21. എന്നാല് ഈ രാജാക്കന്മാര് തങ്ങളോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു എന്നു മോവാബ്യരൊക്കെയും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര് ആയുധം ധരിപ്പാന് തക്ക പ്രായത്തിലും മേലോട്ടുമുള്ളവരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അതിരിങ്കല് ചെന്നുനിന്നു.

21. and all Moab have heard that the kings have come up to fight against them, and they are called together, from every one girding on a girdle and upward, and they stand by the border.

22. രാവിലെ അവര് എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് സൂര്യന് വെള്ളത്തിന്മേല് ഉദിച്ചിട്ടു മോവാബ്യര്ക്കും തങ്ങളുടെ നേരെയുള്ള വെള്ളം രക്തംപോലെ ചുവപ്പായി തോന്നി

22. And they rise early in the morning, and the sun hath shone on the waters, and the Moabites see, from over-against, the waters red as blood,

23. അതു രക്തമാകുന്നു; ആ രാജാക്കന്മാര് തമ്മില് പൊരുതു അന്യോന്യം സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; ആകയാല് മോവാബ്യരേ, കൊള്ളെക്കു വരുവിന് എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

23. and say, 'Blood this [is]; the kings have been surely destroyed, and they smite each his neighbour; and now for spoil, Moab!'

24. അവര് യിസ്രായേല്പാളയത്തിങ്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്യര് എഴുന്നേറ്റു മോവാബ്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചോടിച്ചു; അവര് ദേശത്തില് കടന്നുചെന്നു മോവാബ്യരെ പിന്നെയും തോല്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

24. And they come in unto the camp of Israel, and the Israelites rise, and smite the Moabites, and they flee from their face; and they enter into Moab, so as to smite Moab,

25. പട്ടണങ്ങളെ അവര് ഇടിച്ചു നല്ലനിലമൊക്കെയും ഔരോരുത്തന് ഔരോ കല്ലു ഇട്ടു നികത്തി നീരുറവുകളെല്ലാം അടെച്ചു നല്ലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളെല്ലാം മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; കീര്ഹരേശെത്തില് മാത്രം അവര് അതിന്റെ കല്ലു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ വിട്ടേച്ചു. എന്നാല് കവിണക്കാര് അതിനെ വളഞ്ഞു നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

25. and the cities they break down, and [on] every good portion they cast each his stone, and have filled it, and every fountain of water they stop, and every good tree they cause to fall -- till one had left its stones in Kir-Haraseth, and the slingers go round and smite it.

26. മോവാബ്രാജാവു പട തനിക്കു അതിവിഷമമായി എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള് എദോംരാജാവിനെ അണിമുറിച്ചാക്രമിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എഴുനൂറു ആയുധ പാണികളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു; എങ്കിലും സാധിച്ചില്ല.

26. And the king of Moab seeth that the battle has been too strong for him, and he taketh with him seven hundred men, drawing sword, to cleave through unto the king of Edom, and they have not been able,

27. ആകയാല് അവന് തന്റെ ശേഷം വാഴുവാനുള്ള ആദ്യജാതനെ പിടിച്ചു മതിലിന്മേല് ദഹനയാഗം കഴിച്ചു. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെമേല് മഹാകോപം വന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവനെ വിട്ടു സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

27. and he taketh his son, the first-born who reigneth in his stead, and causeth him to ascend -- a burnt-offering on the wall, and there is great wrath against Israel, and they journey from off him, and turn back to the land.
