1. അബീയാവു തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ മകനായ ആസാ അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി. അവന്റെ കാലത്തു ദേശത്തിന്നു പത്തു സംവത്സരം സ്വസ്ഥത ഉണ്ടായി.

1. Abijah died and was buried in Jerusalem. His son Asa became king in his place, and there was peace in the country for ten years during Asa's time.

2. ആസാ തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദവും ഹിതവും ആയുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു.

2. Asa did what the Lord his God said was good and right.

3. അവന് അന്യദേവന്മാരുടെ ബലിപീഠങ്ങളും പൂജാഗിരികളും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു, സ്തംഭവിഗ്രഹങ്ങള് ഉടെച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു,

3. He removed the foreign altars and the places where gods were worshiped. He smashed the stone pillars that honored other gods, and he tore down the Asherah idols.

4. യെഹൂദയോടു അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ന്യായപ്രാമണവും കല്പനയും ആചരിച്ചു നടപ്പാനും കല്പിച്ചു.

4. Asa commanded the people of Judah to follow the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his teachings and commandments.

5. അവന് എല്ലായെഹൂദാപട്ടണങ്ങളില്നിന്നും പൂജാഗിരികളും സൂര്യവിഗ്രഹങ്ങളും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; രാജ്യം അവന്റെ കീഴിയില് സ്വസ്ഥമായിരുന്നു.

5. He also removed the places where gods were worshiped and the incense altars from every town in Judah. So the kingdom had peace while Asa was king.

6. യഹോവ അവന്നു വിശ്രമം നല്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു ദേശത്തിന്നു സ്വസ്ഥത ഉണ്ടാകയാലും ആ സംവത്സരങ്ങളില് അവന്നു യുദ്ധം ഇല്ലായ്കയാലും അവന് യെഹൂദയില് ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളെ പണിതു.

6. Asa built strong, walled cities in Judah during the time of peace. He had no war in these years, because the Lord gave him peace.

7. അവന് യെഹൂദ്യരോടുനാം ഈ പട്ടണങ്ങളെ പണിതു അവേക്കു ചുറ്റും മതിലുകളും ഗോപുരങ്ങളും വാതിലുകളും ഔടാമ്പലുകളും ഉണ്ടാക്കുക; നാം നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ദേശം നമുക്കു സ്വാധീനമായിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; നാം അവനെ അന്വേഷിക്കയും അവന് ചുറ്റും നമുക്കു വിശ്രമം നല്കയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് വെടിപ്പായി പണിതു തീര്ത്തു.

7. Asa said to the people of Judah, 'Let's build up these towns and put walls around them. Let's make towers, gates, and bars in the gates. This country is ours, because we have obeyed the Lord our God. We have followed him, and he has given us peace all around.' So they built and had success.

8. ആസെക്കു വന് പരിചയും കുന്തവും എടുത്തവരായി മൂന്നുലക്ഷം യെഹൂദ്യരും ചെറുപരിച എടുപ്പാനും വില്ലു കുലെപ്പാനും പ്രാപ്തരായി രണ്ടുലക്ഷത്തെണ്പതിനായിരം ബെന്യാമീന്യരും ഉള്ളോരു സൈന്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവരെല്ലാവരും പരാക്രമശാലികള് ആയിരുന്നു.

8. Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah and two hundred eighty thousand men from Benjamin. The men from Judah carried large shields and spears. The men from Benjamin carried small shields and bows and arrows. All of them were brave fighting men.

9. അനന്തരം കൂശ്യനായ സേരഹ് പത്തുലക്ഷം ആളും മുന്നൂറു രഥവും ഉള്ള സൈന്യത്തോടുകൂടെ അവരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു മാരേശാവരെ വന്നു.

9. Then Zerah from Cush came out to fight them with an enormous army and three hundred chariots. They came as far as the town of Mareshah.

10. ആസാ അവന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് മാരേശെക്കു സമീപം സെഫാഥാതാഴ്വരയില് പടെക്കു അണിനിരത്തി.

10. So Asa went out to fight Zerah and prepared for battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11. ആസാ തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ വിളിച്ചപേക്ഷിച്ചുയഹോവേ, ബലവാന്നും ബലഹീനന്നും തമ്മില് കാര്യം ഉണ്ടായാല് സഹായിപ്പാന് നീയല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരുമില്ല; ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ഞങ്ങളെ, സഹായിക്കേണമേ; നിന്നില് ഞങ്ങള് ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ നാമത്തില് ഞങ്ങള് ഈ പുരുഷാരത്തിന്നു നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവേ, നീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവം; മര്ത്യന് നിന്റെ നേരെ പ്രബലനാകരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Asa called out to the Lord his God, saying, 'Lord, only you can help weak people against the strong. Help us, Lord our God, because we depend on you. We fight against this enormous army in your name. Lord, you are our God. Don't let anyone win against you.'

12. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ ആസയുടെയും യെഹൂദ്യരുടെയും മുമ്പില് കൂശ്യരെ തോലക്കുമാറാക്കി; കൂശ്യര് ഔടിപ്പോയി.

12. So the Lord defeated the Cushites when Asa's army from Judah attacked them, and the Cushites ran away.

13. ആസയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പടജ്ജനവും അവരെ ഗെരാര്വരേ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; കൂശ്യര് ആരും ജീവനോടെ ശേഷിക്കാതെ പട്ടുപോയി; അവര് യഹോവയുടെയും അവന്റെ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ നശിച്ചുപോയി; അവര് വളരെ കവര്ച്ചയും എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു പോന്നു.

13. Asa's army chased them as far as the town of Gerar. So many Cushites were killed that the army could not fight again; they were crushed by the Lord and his army. Asa and his army carried many valuable things away from the enemy.

14. അവര് ഗെരാറിന്നു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം നശിപ്പിച്ചു; യഹോവയിങ്കല് നിന്നു ഒരു ഭീതി അവയുടെമേല് വീണിരുന്നു; അവര് എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളെയും കൊള്ളയിട്ടു; അവയില് കൊള്ള വളരെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

14. They destroyed all the towns near Gerar, because the people living in these towns were afraid of the Lord. Since these towns had many valuable things, Asa's army took them away.

15. അവര് നാല്ക്കാലികളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളെയും ആക്രമിച്ചു, അനവധി ആടുകളെയും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെയും അപഹരിച്ചു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

15. Asa's army also attacked the camps where the shepherds lived and took many sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
