1. എന്റെ ജീവന് എനിക്കു വെറുപ്പായ്തോന്നുന്നു; ഞാന് എന്റെ സങ്കടം തുറന്നുപറയും; എന്റെ മനോവ്യസനത്തില് ഞാന് സംസാരിക്കും.

1. 'I loathe my very life; therefore I will give free rein to my complaint and speak out in the bitterness of my soul.

2. ഞാന് ദൈവത്തോടു പറയുംഎന്നെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കരുതേ; എന്നോടു വ്യവഹരിപ്പാന് സംഗതി എന്തു? എന്നെ അറിയിക്കേണമേ.

2. I will say to God: Do not condemn me, but tell me what charges you have against me.

3. പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ കൈപ്പണിയെ തുച്ഛീകരിക്കുന്നതും ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ ആലോചനയില് പ്രസാദിക്കുന്നതും നിനക്കു യോഗ്യമോ?

3. Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while you smile on the schemes of the wicked?

4. മാംസനേത്രങ്ങളോ നിനക്കുള്ളതു? മനുഷ്യന് കാണുന്നതുപോലെയോ നീ കാണുന്നതു?

4. Do you have eyes of flesh? Do you see as a mortal sees?

5. നീ എന്റെ അകൃത്യം അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും എന്റെ പാപത്തെ ശോധന ചെയ്വാനും

5. Are your days like those of a mortal or your years like those of a man,

6. നിന്റെ നാളുകള് മനുഷ്യന്റെ നാളുകള് പോലെയോ? നിന്നാണ്ടുകള് മര്ത്യന്റെ ജീവകാലം പോലെയോ?

6. that you must search out my faults and probe after my sin--

7. ഞാന് കുറ്റക്കാരനല്ല എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നു; നിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കുന്നവന് ആരുമില്ല.

7. though you know that I am not guilty and that no-one can rescue me from your hand?

8. നിന്റെ കൈ എന്നെ ഉരുവാക്കി എന്നെ മുഴുവനും ചമെച്ചു; എന്നിട്ടും നീ എന്നെ നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

8. 'Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me?

9. നീ എന്നെ കളിമണ്ണുകൊണ്ടെന്നപോലെ മനഞ്ഞു എന്നോര്ക്കേണമേ; നീ എന്നെ വീണ്ടും പൊടിയാക്കിക്കളയുമോ?

9. Remember that you moulded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again?

10. നീ എന്നെ പാലുപോലെ പകര്ന്നു തൈര്പോലെ ഉറകൂടുമാറാക്കിയല്ലോ.

10. Did you not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese,

11. ത്വക്കും മാംസവും നീ എന്നെ ധരിപ്പിച്ചു; അസ്ഥിയും ഞരമ്പുംകൊണ്ടു എന്നെ മടഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. clothe me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews?

12. ജീവനും കൃപയും നീ എനിക്കു നല്കി; നിന്റെ കടാക്ഷം എന്റെ ശ്വാസത്തെ പരിപാലിക്കുന്നു.

12. You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit.

13. എന്നാല് നീ ഇതു നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് ഒളിച്ചുവെച്ചു; ഇതായിരുന്നു നിന്റെ താല്പര്യം എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു.

13. 'But this is what you concealed in your heart, and I know that this was in your mind:

14. ഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്താല് നീ കണ്ടു വെക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ അകൃത്യം നീ ശിക്ഷിക്കാതെ വിടുന്നതുമില്ല.

14. If I sinned, you would be watching me and would not let my offence go unpunished.

15. ഞാന് ദുഷ്ടനെങ്കില് എനിക്കു അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം; നീതിമാനായിരുന്നാലും ഞാന് തല ഉയര്ത്തേണ്ടതല്ല; ലജ്ജാപൂര്ണ്ണനായി ഞാന് എന്റെ കഷ്ടത കാണുന്നു.

15. If I am guilty--woe to me! Even if I am innocent, I cannot lift my head, for I am full of shame and drowned in my affliction.

16. തല ഉയര്ത്തിയാല് നീ ഒരു സിംഹംപോലെ എന്നെ നായാടും. പിന്നെയും എങ്കല് നിന്റെ അത്ഭുതശക്തി കാണിക്കുന്നു.

16. If I hold my head high, you stalk me like a lion and again display your awesome power against me.

17. നിന്റെ സാക്ഷികളെ നീ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും എന്റെ നേരെ നിര്ത്തുന്നു; നിന്റെ ക്രോധം എന്റെമേല് വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; അവ ഗണംഗണമായി വന്നു പൊരുതുന്നു.

17. You bring new witnesses against me and increase your anger towards me; your forces come against me wave upon wave.

18. നീ എന്നെ ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചതെന്തിന്നു? ഒരു കണ്ണും എന്നെ കാണാതെ എന്റെ പ്രാണന് പോകുമായിരുന്നു.

18. 'Why then did you bring me out of the womb? I wish I had died before any eye saw me.

19. ഞാന് ജനിക്കാത്തതുപോലെ ഇരിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്നിന്നു എന്നെ ശവകൂഴിയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുമായിരുന്നു;

19. If only I had never come into being, or had been carried straight from the womb to the grave!

20. എന്റെ ജീവകാലം ചുരുക്കമല്ലയോ? ഇരുളും അന്ധതമസ്സും ഉള്ള ദേശത്തേക്കു അര്ദ്ധരാത്രിപോലെ കൂരിരുളും ക്രമമില്ലാതെ അന്ധതമസ്സും

20. Are not my few days almost over? Turn away from me so that I can have a moment's joy

21. വെളിച്ചം അര്ദ്ധരാത്രിപോലെയും ഉള്ള ദേശത്തേക്കു തന്നേ, മടങ്ങിവരാതവണ്ണം പോകുന്നതിന്നുമുമ്പെ

21. before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and deep shadow,

22. ഞാന് അല്പം ആശ്വസിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ മതിയാക്കി എന്നെ വിട്ടുമാറേണമേ.

22. to the land of deepest night, of deep shadow and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.'
