1. അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

1. And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:

2. മനുഷ്യന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഉപകാരമായിവരുമോ? ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് തനിക്കു തന്നേ ഉപകരിക്കേയുള്ളു.

2. Can a man be useful to God? For can a wise man be useful to himself?

3. നീ നീതിമാനായാല് സര്വ്വശക്തന്നു പ്രയോജനമുണ്ടോ? നീ നിഷ്കളങ്കനായി നടക്കുന്നതിനാല് അവന്നു ലാഭമുണ്ടോ?

3. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways perfect?

4. നിന്റെ ഭക്തിനിമിത്തമോ അവന് നിന്നെ ശാസിക്കയും നിന്നെ ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് വരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു?

4. Will He reprove you because of your reverence, or enter into judgment with you?

5. നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത വലിയതല്ലയോ? നിന്റെ അകൃത്യങ്ങള്ക്കു അന്തവുമില്ല.

5. Is not your wickedness great, and is there no end to your iniquities?

6. നിന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു നീ വെറുതെ പണയം വാങ്ങി, നഗ്നന്മാരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and you have stripped the naked of their clothing.

7. ക്ഷീണിച്ചവന്നു നീ വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തില്ല; വിശന്നവന്നു നീ ആഹാരം മുടക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

7. You have not given water to the faint to drink, and you withheld food from the hungry.

8. കയ്യൂറ്റക്കാരന്നോ ദേശം കൈവശമായി, മാന്യനായവന് അതില് പാര്ത്തു.

8. And the earth is to him, to the armed man; and the honored one lives in it.

9. വിധവമാരെ നീ വെറുങ്കയ്യായി അയച്ചു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ ഭുജങ്ങളെ നീ ഒടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

9. You have sent widows away empty, and have crushed the arms of orphans.

10. അതുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ ചുറ്റും കണികള് ഇരിക്കുന്നു. പെട്ടെന്നു ഭയം നിന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

10. On account of this snares are all around you, and suddenly dread troubles you;

11. അല്ല, നീ അന്ധകാരത്തെയും നിന്നെ മൂടുന്ന പെരുവെള്ളത്തെയും കണുന്നില്ലയോ?

11. or darkness, so that you cannot see, and a flood of waters covers you.

12. ദൈവം സ്വര്ഗ്ഗോന്നതത്തില് ഇല്ലയോ? നക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് എത്ര ഉയര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു നോക്കുക.

12. Is not God high in Heaven? Also behold the leading stars, for they are high.

13. എന്നാല് നീദൈവം എന്തറിയുന്നു? കൂരിരുട്ടില് അവന് ന്യായം വിധിക്കുമോ?

13. And you say, What does God know? Can He judge through the dark cloud?

14. കാണാതവണ്ണം മേഘങ്ങള് അവന്നു മറ ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകാശമണ്ഡലത്തില് അവന് ഉലാവുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

14. Clouds are a covering for Him, and He does not see; and He walks the circuit of the heavens.

15. ദുഷ്ടമനുഷ്യര് നടന്നിരിക്കുന്ന പുരാതനമാര്ഗ്ഗം നീ പ്രമാണിക്കുമോ?

15. Do you keep to the old way which evil men have trod?

16. കാലം തികയും മുമ്പെ അവര് പിടിപെട്ടുപോയി; അവരുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനം നദിപോലെ ഒഴുകിപ്പോയി.

16. They were taken, but there was not time; their foundation was poured out by a flood;

17. അവര് ദൈവത്തോടുഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടുപോക; സര്വ്വശക്തന് ഞങ്ങളോടു എന്തു ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. who said to God, Depart from us; and, What can the Almighty do to them?

18. അവനോ അവരുടെ വീടുകളെ നന്മകൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ ആലോചന എന്നോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Yet He filled their houses with substance; and the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19. നീതിമാന്മാര് കണ്ടു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു; കുറ്റമില്ലാത്തവന് അവരെ പരിഹസിച്ചു

19. The righteous see it and are glad; and the innocent scornfully laugh;

20. ഞങ്ങളുടെ എതിരാളികള് മുടിഞ്ഞുപോയി; അവരുടെ ശേഷിപ്പു തീക്കിരയായി എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

20. truly our adversary is not cut down, and fire has eaten their wealth.

21. നീ അവനോടിണങ്ങി സമാധാനമായിരിക്ക; അതിനാല് നിനക്കു നന്മ വരും.

21. Now be of service with Him, and be at peace; good shall come to you by them.

22. അവന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു ഉപദേശം കൈക്കൊള്ക; അവന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിക്ക.

22. Now receive the Law from His mouth and put His words in your heart.

23. സര്വ്വശക്തങ്കലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞാല് നീ അഭിവൃദ്ധിപ്രാപിക്കും; നീതികേടു നിന്റെ കൂടാരങ്ങളില്നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.

23. If you return to the Almighty you shall be built up; you shall put injustice far from your tents.

24. നിന്റെ പൊന്നു പൊടിയിലും ഔഫീര്തങ്കം തോട്ടിലെ കല്ലിന് ഇടയിലും ഇട്ടുകളക.

24. Then you shall lay gold on the dust, even among the rocks of the torrents of Ophir.

25. അപ്പോള് സര്വ്വശക്തന് നിന്റെ പൊന്നും നിനക്കു വെള്ളിവാളവും ആയിരിക്കും.

25. Yea, the Almighty shall be your gold and silver, a tower to you,

26. അന്നു നീ സര്വ്വശക്തനില് പ്രമോദിക്കും; ദൈവത്തിങ്കലേക്കു നിന്റെ മുഖം ഉയര്ത്തും.

26. for then you will delight over the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God.

27. നീ അവനോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും; അവന് നിന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേള്ക്കും; നീ നിന്റെ നേര്ച്ചകളെ കഴിക്കും.

27. You shall make your prayer to Him, and He will hear you; and you shall pay your vows.

28. നീ ഒരു കാര്യം നിരൂപിക്കും; അതു നിനക്കു സാധിക്കും; നിന്റെ വഴികളില് വെളിച്ചം പ്രകാശിക്കും.

28. You shall also decide a thing, and it will stand for you; and light shall shine on your ways.

29. നിന്നെ താഴ്ത്തുമ്പോള് ഉയര്ച്ച എന്നു നീ പറയും; താഴ്മയുള്ളവനെ അവന് രക്ഷിക്കും.

29. For they have humiliated you; and you shall say, Pride! And He shall save the lowly of eyes.

30. നിര്ദ്ദോഷിയല്ലാത്തവനെപ്പോലും അവന് വിടുവിക്കും; നിന്റെ കൈകളുടെ വെടിപ്പിനാല് അവന് വിടുവിക്കപ്പെടും.

30. He shall deliver one not innocent and will deliver by the cleanness of your hands.
