1. അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

1. And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2. മനുഷ്യന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഉപകാരമായിവരുമോ? ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് തനിക്കു തന്നേ ഉപകരിക്കേയുള്ളു.

2. Can a man be profitable to *God? surely it is unto himself that the wise man is profitable.

3. നീ നീതിമാനായാല് സര്വ്വശക്തന്നു പ്രയോജനമുണ്ടോ? നീ നിഷ്കളങ്കനായി നടക്കുന്നതിനാല് അവന്നു ലാഭമുണ്ടോ?

3. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if thou art righteous? And is it gain [to him] that thou makest thy ways perfect?

4. നിന്റെ ഭക്തിനിമിത്തമോ അവന് നിന്നെ ശാസിക്കയും നിന്നെ ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് വരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു?

4. Will he reason with thee for fear of thee? Will he enter with thee into judgment?

5. നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത വലിയതല്ലയോ? നിന്റെ അകൃത്യങ്ങള്ക്കു അന്തവുമില്ല.

5. Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities without end?

6. നിന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു നീ വെറുതെ പണയം വാങ്ങി, നഗ്നന്മാരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. For thou hast taken a pledge of thy brother for nought, and stripped off the clothing of the naked.

7. ക്ഷീണിച്ചവന്നു നീ വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തില്ല; വിശന്നവന്നു നീ ആഹാരം മുടക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

7. Thou hast not given water to the fainting to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

8. കയ്യൂറ്റക്കാരന്നോ ദേശം കൈവശമായി, മാന്യനായവന് അതില് പാര്ത്തു.

8. But the powerful man, he had the land; and the man of high rank dwelt in it.

9. വിധവമാരെ നീ വെറുങ്കയ്യായി അയച്ചു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ ഭുജങ്ങളെ നീ ഒടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

9. Widows hast thou sent empty away, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

10. അതുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ ചുറ്റും കണികള് ഇരിക്കുന്നു. പെട്ടെന്നു ഭയം നിന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

10. Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

11. അല്ല, നീ അന്ധകാരത്തെയും നിന്നെ മൂടുന്ന പെരുവെള്ളത്തെയും കണുന്നില്ലയോ?

11. Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and floods of waters cover thee.

12. ദൈവം സ്വര്ഗ്ഗോന്നതത്തില് ഇല്ലയോ? നക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് എത്ര ഉയര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു നോക്കുക.

12. Is not +God in the height of the heavens? And behold the summit of the stars: how exalted are they!

13. എന്നാല് നീദൈവം എന്തറിയുന്നു? കൂരിരുട്ടില് അവന് ന്യായം വിധിക്കുമോ?

13. And thou sayest, What doth *God know? will he judge through the dark cloud?

14. കാണാതവണ്ണം മേഘങ്ങള് അവന്നു മറ ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകാശമണ്ഡലത്തില് അവന് ഉലാവുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

14. Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh on the vault of the heavens.

15. ദുഷ്ടമനുഷ്യര് നടന്നിരിക്കുന്ന പുരാതനമാര്ഗ്ഗം നീ പ്രമാണിക്കുമോ?

15. Dost thou mark the ancient path which wicked men have trodden?

16. കാലം തികയും മുമ്പെ അവര് പിടിപെട്ടുപോയി; അവരുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനം നദിപോലെ ഒഴുകിപ്പോയി.

16. Who were carried off before the time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood;

17. അവര് ദൈവത്തോടുഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടുപോക; സര്വ്വശക്തന് ഞങ്ങളോടു എന്തു ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. Who said unto *God, Depart from us! and what could the Almighty do to them?

18. അവനോ അവരുടെ വീടുകളെ നന്മകൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ ആലോചന എന്നോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Yet he filled their houses with good. But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19. നീതിമാന്മാര് കണ്ടു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു; കുറ്റമില്ലാത്തവന് അവരെ പരിഹസിച്ചു

19. The righteous see it, and are glad; and the innocent laugh them to scorn:

20. ഞങ്ങളുടെ എതിരാളികള് മുടിഞ്ഞുപോയി; അവരുടെ ശേഷിപ്പു തീക്കിരയായി എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

20. Is not he who rose against us destroyed, and doth not the fire consume his residue?

21. നീ അവനോടിണങ്ങി സമാധാനമായിരിക്ക; അതിനാല് നിനക്കു നന്മ വരും.

21. Reconcile thyself now with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

22. അവന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു ഉപദേശം കൈക്കൊള്ക; അവന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിക്ക.

22. Receive, I pray thee, instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart.

23. സര്വ്വശക്തങ്കലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞാല് നീ അഭിവൃദ്ധിപ്രാപിക്കും; നീതികേടു നിന്റെ കൂടാരങ്ങളില്നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.

23. If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up. If thou remove unrighteousness far from thy tents,

24. നിന്റെ പൊന്നു പൊടിയിലും ഔഫീര്തങ്കം തോട്ടിലെ കല്ലിന് ഇടയിലും ഇട്ടുകളക.

24. And put the precious ore with the dust, and [the gold of] Ophir among the stones of the torrents,

25. അപ്പോള് സര്വ്വശക്തന് നിന്റെ പൊന്നും നിനക്കു വെള്ളിവാളവും ആയിരിക്കും.

25. Then the Almighty will be thy precious ore, and silver heaped up unto thee;

26. അന്നു നീ സര്വ്വശക്തനില് പ്രമോദിക്കും; ദൈവത്തിങ്കലേക്കു നിന്റെ മുഖം ഉയര്ത്തും.

26. Yea, then shalt thou delight thyself in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto +God:

27. നീ അവനോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും; അവന് നിന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേള്ക്കും; നീ നിന്റെ നേര്ച്ചകളെ കഴിക്കും.

27. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he will hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows;

28. നീ ഒരു കാര്യം നിരൂപിക്കും; അതു നിനക്കു സാധിക്കും; നിന്റെ വഴികളില് വെളിച്ചം പ്രകാശിക്കും.

28. And thou shalt decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and light shall shine upon thy ways.

29. നിന്നെ താഴ്ത്തുമ്പോള് ഉയര്ച്ച എന്നു നീ പറയും; താഴ്മയുള്ളവനെ അവന് രക്ഷിക്കും.

29. When they are made low, then thou shalt say, Rise up! and he shall save him that is of downcast eyes.

30. നിര്ദ്ദോഷിയല്ലാത്തവനെപ്പോലും അവന് വിടുവിക്കും; നിന്റെ കൈകളുടെ വെടിപ്പിനാല് അവന് വിടുവിക്കപ്പെടും.

30. [Even] him that is not innocent shall he deliver; yea, he shall be delivered by the pureness of thy hands.
