1. അനന്തരം ഇയ്യോബ് വായി തുറന്നു തന്റെ ജന്മദിവസത്തെ ശപിച്ചു.

1. After this hath Job opened his mouth, and revileth his day.

2. ഇയ്യോബ് പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. And Job answereth and saith: --

3. ഞാന് ജനിച്ച ദിവസവും ഒരു ആണ് ഉല്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ രാത്രിയും നശിച്ചുപോകട്ടെ.

3. Let the day perish in which I am born, And the night that hath said: 'A man-child hath been conceived.'

4. ആ നാള് ഇരുണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ; മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം അതിനെ കടാക്ഷിക്കരുതേ; പ്രകാശം അതിന്മേല് ശോഭിക്കയുമരുതേ.

4. That day -- let it be darkness, Let not God require it from above, Nor let light shine upon it.

5. ഇരുളും അന്ധതമസ്സും അതിനെ സ്വാധീനമാക്കട്ടെ; ഒരു മേഘം അതിന്മേല് അമരട്ടെ; പകലിനെ ഇരുട്ടുന്നതൊക്കെയും അതിനെ പേടിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ.

5. Let darkness and death-shade redeem it, Let a cloud tabernacle upon it, Let them terrify it as the most bitter of days.

6. ആ രാത്രിയെ കൂരിരുള് പിടിക്കട്ടെ; അതു ആണ്ടിന്റെ നാളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; മാസങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില് വരികയും അരുതു.

6. That night -- let thick darkness take it, Let it not be united to days of the year, Into the number of months let it not come.

7. അതേ, ആ രാത്രി മച്ചിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ; ഉല്ലാസഘോഷം അതിലുണ്ടാകരുതു.

7. Lo! that night -- let it be gloomy, Let no singing come into it.

8. മഹാസര്പ്പത്തെ ഇളക്കുവാന് സമര്ത്ഥരായി ദിവസത്തെ ശപിക്കുന്നവര് അതിനെ ശപിക്കട്ടെ.

8. Let the cursers of day mark it, Who are ready to wake up Leviathan.

9. അതിന്റെ സന്ധ്യാനക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് ഇരുണ്ടു പോകട്ടെ. അതു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്നു കാത്തിരുന്നു കിട്ടാതെ പോകട്ടെ; അതു ഉഷസ്സിന്റെ കണ്ണിമ ഒരിക്കലും കാണരുതു.

9. Let the stars of its twilight be dark, Let it wait for light, and there is none, And let it not look on the eyelids of the dawn.

10. അതു എനിക്കു ഗര്ഭദ്വാരം അടെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ; എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു കഷ്ടം മറെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.

10. Because it hath not shut the doors Of the womb that was mine! And hide misery from mine eyes.

11. ഞാന് ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്വെച്ചു മരിക്കാഞ്ഞതെന്തു? ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് തന്നേ പ്രാണന് പോകാതിരുന്നതെന്തു?

11. Why from the womb do I not die? From the belly I have come forth and gasp!

12. മുഴങ്കാല് എന്നെ ഏറ്റുകൊണ്ടതു എന്തിനു? എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് മുല ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു?

12. Wherefore have knees been before me? And what [are] breasts, that I suck?

13. ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് കിടന്നു വിശ്രമിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് ഉറങ്ങി വിശ്രാന്തി പ്രാപിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

13. For now, I have lain down, and am quiet, I have slept -- then there is rest to me,

14. തങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏകാന്തനിവാസങ്ങള് പണിത ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരോടും മന്ത്രിമാരോടും അഥവാ,

14. With kings and counsellors of earth, These building wastes for themselves.

15. കനകസമ്പന്നരായി സ്വഭവനങ്ങള് വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചുവെച്ച പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും കൂടെ തന്നേ.

15. Or with princes -- they have gold, They are filling their houses [with] silver.

16. അല്ലെങ്കില്, ഗര്ഭം അലസിപ്പോയിട്ടു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പിണ്ഡംപോലെയും വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത പിള്ളകളെപ്പോലെയും ഞാന് ഇല്ലാതെ പോകുമായിരുന്നു.

16. (Or as a hidden abortion I am not, As infants -- they have not seen light.)

17. അവിടെ ദുര്ജ്ജനം ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവിടെ ക്ഷീണിച്ചു പോയവര് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

17. There the wicked have ceased troubling, And there rest do the wearied in power.

18. അവിടെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് ഒരുപോലെ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു; പീഡകന്റെ ശബ്ദം അവര് കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Together prisoners have been at ease, They have not heard the voice of an exactor,

19. ചെറിയവനും വലിയവനും അവിടെ ഒരുപോലെ; ദാസന്നു യജമാനന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു വിടുതല് കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Small and great [are] there the same. And a servant [is] free from his lord.

20. അരിഷ്ടനു പ്രകാശവും ദുഃഖിതന്മാര്ക്കും ജീവനും കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

20. Why giveth He to the miserable light, and life to the bitter soul?

21. അവര് മരണത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അതു വരുന്നില്ലതാനും; നിധിക്കായി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലുമധികം അവര് അതിന്നായി കുഴിക്കുന്നു.

21. Who are waiting for death, and it is not, And they seek it above hid treasures.

22. അവര് ശവകൂഴി കണ്ടാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ഘോഷിച്ചുല്ലസിക്കും

22. Who are glad -- unto joy, They rejoice when they find a grave.

23. വഴി മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന്നും ദൈവം നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന്നും ജീവനെ കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

23. To a man whose way hath been hidden, And whom God doth shut up?

24. ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ എനിക്കു നെടുവീര്പ്പു വരുന്നു; എന്റെ ഞരക്കം വെള്ളംപോലെ ഒഴുകുന്നു.

24. For before my food, my sighing cometh, And poured out as waters [are] my roarings.

25. ഞാന് പേടിച്ചതു തന്നേ എനിക്കു നേരിട്ടു; ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതു എനിക്കു ഭവിച്ചു.

25. For a fear I feared and it meeteth me, And what I was afraid of doth come to me.

26. ഞാന് സ്വസ്ഥനായില്ല, വിശ്രമിച്ചില്ല, ആശ്വസിച്ചതുമില്ല; പിന്നെയും അതിവേദന എടുക്കുന്നു.

26. I was not safe -- nor was I quiet -- Nor was I at rest -- and trouble cometh!
