1. ഇപ്പോഴോ എന്നിലും പ്രായം കുറഞ്ഞവര് എന്നെ നോക്കി ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാരെ എന്റെ ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തിന്റെ നായ്ക്കളോടുകൂടെ ആക്കുവാന് പോലും ഞാന് നിരസിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

1. 'But now those who are younger than I, have me in derision, Whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheep dogs.

2. അവരുടെ കയ്യൂറ്റംകൊണ്ടു എനിക്കെന്തു പ്രയോജനം? അവരുടെ യൌവനശക്തി നശിച്ചുപോയല്ലോ.

2. Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, Men in whom ripe age has perished?

3. ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടും വിശപ്പുംകൊണ്ടു അവര് മെലിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; ശൂന്യത്തിന്റെയും നിര്ജ്ജനദേശത്തിന്റെയും ഇരുട്ടില് അവര് വരണ്ട നിലം കടിച്ചുകാരുന്നു.

3. They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.

4. അവര് കുറുങ്കാട്ടില് മണല്ചീര പറിക്കുന്നു; കാട്ടുകിഴങ്ങു അവര്ക്കും ആഹാരമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. They pluck mallukh by the bushes. The roots of the broom are their food.

5. ജനമദ്ധ്യേനിന്നു അവരെ ഔടിച്ചുകളയുന്നു; കള്ളനെപ്പോലെ അവരെ ആട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു.

5. They are driven forth from the midst of men; They cry after them as after a thief;

6. താഴ്വരപ്പിളര്പ്പുകളില് അവര് പാര്ക്കേണ്ടിവരുന്നു; മണ്കുഴികളിലും പാറയുടെ ഗഹ്വരങ്ങളിലും തന്നേ.

6. So that they dwell in frightful valleys, And in holes of the eretz and of the rocks.

7. കുറുങ്കാട്ടില് അവര് കതറുന്നു; തൂവയുടെ കീഴെ അവര് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടുന്നു.

7. Among the bushes they bray; And under the nettles they are gathered together.

8. അവര് ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ മക്കള്, നീചന്മാരുടെ മക്കള്; അവരെ ദേശത്തുനിന്നു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചോടിക്കുന്നു.

8. They are children of fools, yes, children of base men. They were flogged out of the land.

9. ഇപ്പോഴോ ഞാന് അവരുടെ പാട്ടായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര്ക്കും പഴഞ്ചൊല്ലായിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

9. 'Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them.

10. അവര് എന്നെ അറെച്ചു അകന്നുനിലക്കുന്നു; എന്നെ കണ്ടു തുപ്പുവാന് ശങ്കിക്കുന്നില്ല.

10. They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And don't hesitate to spit in my face.

11. അവന് തന്റെ കയറു അഴിച്ചു എന്നെ ക്ളേശിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് എന്റെ മുമ്പില് കടിഞ്ഞാണ് അയച്ചു വിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; And they have thrown off restraint before me.

12. വലത്തുഭാഗത്തു നീചപരിഷ എഴുന്നേറ്റു എന്റെ കാല് ഉന്തുന്നു; അവര് നാശമാര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളെ എന്റെ നേരെ നിരത്തുന്നു.

12. On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet, They cast up against me their ways of destruction.

13. അവര് എന്റെ പാതയെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; അവര് തന്നേ തുണയറ്റവര് ആയിരിക്കെ എന്റെ അപായത്തിന്നായി ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

13. They mar my path, They set forward my calamity, Without anyone's help.

14. വിസ്താരമുള്ള തുറവില്കൂടി എന്നപോലെ അവര് ആക്രമിച്ചുവരുന്നു; ഇടിവിന്റെ നടുവില് അവര് എന്റെ മേല് ഉരുണ്ടുകയറുന്നു.

14. As through a wide breach they come, In the midst of the ruin they roll themselves in.

15. ഘോരത്വങ്ങള് എന്റെ നേരെ തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; കാറ്റുപോലെ എന്റെ മഹത്വത്തെ പാറ്റിക്കളയുന്നു; എന്റെ ക്ഷേമവും മേഘംപോലെ കടന്നു പോകുന്നു.

15. Terrors are turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud.

16. ഇപ്പോള് എന്റെ പ്രാണന് എന്റെ ഉള്ളില് തൂകിപ്പോകുന്നു; കഷ്ടകാലം എന്നെ പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. 'Now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold on me.

17. രാത്രി എന്റെ അസ്ഥികളെ തുളച്ചെടുത്തുകളയുന്നു; എന്നെ കടിച്ചുകാരുന്നവര് ഉറങ്ങുന്നതുമില്ല.

17. In the night season my bones are pierced in me, And the pains that gnaw me take no rest.

18. ഉഗ്രബലത്താല് എന്റെ വസ്ത്രം വിരൂപമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അങ്കിയുടെ കഴുത്തുപോലെ എന്നോടു പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. By great force is my garment disfigured. It binds me about as the collar of my coat.

19. അവന് എന്നെ ചെളിയില് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് പൊടിക്കും ചാരത്തിന്നും തുല്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. He has cast me into the mire. I have become like dust and ashes.

20. ഞാന് നിന്നോടു നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു; നീ ഉത്തരം അരുളുന്നില്ല; ഞാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിലക്കുന്നു; നീ എന്നെ തുറിച്ചുനോക്കുന്നതേയുള്ളു.

20. I cry to you, and you do not answer me. Istand up, and you gaze at me.

21. നീ എന്റെ നേരെ ക്രൂരനായിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ കയ്യുടെ ശക്തിയാല് നീ എന്നെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

21. You have turned to be cruel to me. With the might of your hand you persecute me.

22. നീ എന്നെ കാറ്റിന് പുറത്തു കയറ്റി ഔടിക്കുന്നു; കൊടുങ്കാറ്റില് നീ എന്നെ ലയിപ്പിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

22. You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it. You dissolve me in the storm.

23. മരണത്തിലേക്കും സകലജീവികളും ചെന്നു ചേരുന്ന വീട്ടിലേക്കും നീ എന്നെ കൊണ്ടുപോകുമെന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു.

23. For I know that you will bring me to death, To the house appointed for all living.

24. എങ്കിലും വീഴുമ്പോള് കൈ നീട്ടുകയില്ലയോ? അപായത്തില് അതു നിമിത്തം നിലവിളിക്കയില്ലയോ?

24. 'However doesn't one stretch out a hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help?

25. കഷ്ടകാലം വന്നവന്നു വേണ്ടി ഞാന് കരഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലയോ? എളിയവന്നു വേണ്ടി എന്റെ മനസ്സു വ്യസനിച്ചിട്ടില്ലയോ?

25. Didn't I weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn't my soul grieved for the needy?

26. ഞാന് നന്മെക്കു നോക്കിയിരുന്നപ്പോള് തിന്മവന്നു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരുന്നപ്പോള് ഇരുട്ടുവന്നു.

26. When I looked for good, then evil came; When I waited for light, there came darkness.

27. എന്റെ കുടല് അമരാതെ തിളെക്കുന്നു; കഷ്ടകാലം എനിക്കു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. My heart is troubled, and doesn't rest. Days of affliction have come on me.

28. ഞാന് കറുത്തവനായി നടക്കുന്നു; വെയില് കൊണ്ടല്ലതാനും. ഞാന് സഭയില് എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു.

28. I go mourning without the sun. Istand up in the assembly, and cry for help.

29. ഞാന് കുറുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും സഹോദരനും ഒട്ടകപ്പക്ഷികള്ക്കു കൂട്ടാളിയും ആയിരിക്കുന്നു.

29. I am a brother to jackals, And a companion to ostriches.

30. എന്റെ ത്വക് കറുത്തു പൊളിഞ്ഞുവീഴുന്നു; എന്റെ അസ്ഥി ഉഷ്ണംകൊണ്ടു കരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

30. My skin grows black and peels from me. My bones are burned with heat.

31. എന്റെ കിന്നരനാദം വിലാപമായും എന്റെ കുഴലൂത്തു കരച്ചലായും തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

31. Therefore is my harp turned to mourning, And my pipe into the voice of those who weep.
