1. ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇരിപ്പാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

1. Don't be envious against evil men; Neither desire to be with them:

2. അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം സാഹസം ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ അധരം വേണ്ടാതനം പറയുന്നു.

2. For their heart studies oppression, And their lips talk of mischief.

3. ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു ഭവനം പണിയുന്നു; വിവേകംകൊണ്ടു അതു സ്ഥിരമായിവരുന്നു.

3. Through wisdom is a house built; And by understanding it is established;

4. പരിജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ മുറികളില് വലിയേറിയതും മനോഹരവുമായ സകല സമ്പത്തും നിറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

4. And by knowledge are the chambers filled With all precious and pleasant riches.

5. ജ്ഞാനിയായ പുരുഷന് ബലവാനാകുന്നു; പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ബലം വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

5. A wise [noble] man is strong; Yes, a man of knowledge increases might

6. ഭരണസാമര്ത്ഥ്യത്തോടെ നീ യുദ്ധം നടത്തി ജയിക്കും; മന്ത്രിമാരുടെ ബഹുത്വത്തില് രക്ഷയുണ്ടു.

6. For by wise guidance you will make your war; And in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

7. ജ്ഞാനം ഭോഷന്നു അത്യുന്നതമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് വായ് തുറക്കുന്നില്ല.

7. Wisdom is too high for a fool: He does not open his mouth in the gate.

8. ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് നിരൂപിക്കുന്നവനെ ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു;

8. He who devises to do evil, Men will call him a mischief-maker.

9. ഭോഷന്റെ നിരൂപണം പാപം തന്നേ; പരിഹാസി മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വെറുപ്പാകുന്നു.

9. The thought of foolishness is sin; And the scoffer is disgusting to man.

10. കഷ്ടകാലത്തു നീ കുഴഞ്ഞുപോയാല് നിന്റെ ബലം നഷ്ടം തന്നേ.

10. If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.

11. മരണത്തിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നവരെ വിടുവിക്ക; കുലെക്കായി വിറെച്ചു ചെല്ലുന്നവരെ രക്ഷിപ്പാന് നോക്കുക.

11. Deliver those who are carried away to death, And see that you hold back those who are ready to be slain.

12. ഞങ്ങള് അറിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞാല് ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുന്നവന് ഗ്രഹിക്കയില്ലയോ? നിന്റെ പ്രാണനെ കാക്കുന്നവന് അറികയില്ലയോ? അവന് മനുഷ്യന്നു പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം പകരം കൊടുക്കയില്ലയോ?

12. If you say, Look, we did not know this; Does not he who weighs the hearts consider it? And he who keeps your soul, does he not know it? And will he not render to man according to his work?

13. മകനേ, തേന് തിന്നുക; അതു നല്ലതല്ലോ; തേങ്കട്ട നിന്റെ അണ്ണാക്കിന്നു മധുരമത്രേ.

13. My son, eat honey, for it is good; And the drippings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:

14. ജ്ഞാനവും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എന്നറിക; നീ അതു പ്രാപിച്ചാല് പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

14. So you will know wisdom to be to your soul; If you have found it, then there will be a reward, And your hope will not be cut off.

15. ദുഷ്ടാ, നീ നീതിമാന്റെ പാര്പ്പിടത്തിന്നു പതിയിരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കയുമരുതു.

15. Don't lay in wait, O wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous; Don't destroy his resting-place:

16. നീതിമാന് ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം വീണാലും എഴുന്നേലക്കും; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോ അനര്ത്ഥത്തില് നശിച്ചുപോകും.

16. For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

17. നിന്റെ ശത്രു വീഴുമ്പോള് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; അവന് ഇടറുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആനന്ദിക്കരുതു.

17. Don't rejoice when your enemy falls, And don't let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;

18. യഹോവ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടക്കേടാകുവാനും തന്റെ കോപം അവങ്കല്നിന്നു മാറ്റിക്കളവാനും മതി.

18. Or else Yahweh will see it, and it will be evil in his eyes, And he will turn away his wrath from him.

19. ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര് നിമിത്തം മുഷിയരുതു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടുകയും അരുതു.

19. Don't fret yourself because of evildoers; Neither be envious at the wicked:

20. ദോഷിക്കു പ്രതിഫലമുണ്ടാകയില്ല; ദുഷ്ടന്റെ വിളകൂ കെട്ടുപോകും.

20. For there will be no reward to the evil man; The lamp of the wicked will be put out.

21. മകനേ, യഹോവയെയും രാജാവിനെയും ഭയപ്പെടുക; മത്സരികളോടു ഇടപെടരുതു.

21. My son, fear Yahweh and the king; [And] don't company with those who are given to change:

22. അവരുടെ ആപത്തു പെട്ടെന്നു വരും; രണ്ടു കൂട്ടര്ക്കും വരുന്ന നാശം ആരറിയുന്നു?

22. For their calamity will rise suddenly; And the destruction from them both, who knows it?

23. ഇവയും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വാക്യങ്ങള്. ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് മുഖദാക്ഷിണ്യം നന്നല്ല.

23. These also are [words] of the wise. To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.

24. ദുഷ്ടനോടു നീ നീതിമാന് എന്നു പറയുന്നവനെ ജാതികള് ശപിക്കയും വംശങ്ങള് വെറുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

24. He who says to the wicked, You are righteous; Peoples will curse him, nations will abhor him:

25. അവനെ ശാസിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കോ നന്മ ഉണ്ടാകും; നല്ലോരനുഗ്രഹം അവരുടെ മേല് വരും.

25. But to those who rebuke [him] will be delight, And a good blessing will come upon them.

26. നേരുള്ള ഉത്തരം പറയുന്നവന് അധരങ്ങളെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

26. He kisses the lips Who gives a right answer.

27. വെളിയില് നിന്റെ വേല ചെയ്ക; വയലില് എല്ലാം തീര്ക്കുംക; പിന്നെത്തേതില് നിന്റെ വീടു പണിയുക.

27. Prepare your work outside, And make it ready for yourself in the field; And afterward build your house.

28. കാരണം കൂടാതെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വിരോധമായി സാക്ഷിനില്ക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ അധരംകൊണ്ടു ചതിക്കയും അരുതു.

28. Don't be a witness against your fellow man without cause; And do not deceive with your lips.

29. അവന് എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു ചെയ്യുമെന്നും ഞാന് അവന്നു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു പകരം കൊടുക്കും എന്നും നീ പറയരുതു.

29. Don't say, I will do so to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.

30. ഞാന് മടിയന്റെ കണ്ടത്തിന്നരികെയും ബുദ്ധിഹീനന്റെ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തിന്നു സമീപെയും കൂടി പോയി.

30. I went by the field of the sluggard, And by the vineyard of [the] man void of understanding;

31. അവിടെ മുള്ളു പടര്ന്നുപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും തൂവ നിറഞ്ഞു നിലം മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നതും അതിന്റെ കന്മതില് ഇടിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

31. And, look, it was all grown over with thorns, The face of it was covered with nettles, And the stone wall of it was broken down.

32. ഞാന് അതു നോക്കി വിചാരിക്കയും അതു കണ്ടു ഉപദേശം പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

32. Then I looked, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction:

33. കുറെക്കൂടെ ഉറക്കം, കുറെക്കൂടെ നിദ്ര, കുറെക്കൂടെ കൈ കെട്ടി കിടക്ക.

33. [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep;

34. അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ ദാരിദ്ര്യം വഴിപോക്കനെപ്പോലെയും നിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു ആയുധപാണിയെപ്പോലെയും വരും.

34. So will your poverty come as a robber, And your want as an armed man.
