2. കാര്യം മറെച്ചുവെക്കുന്നതു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മഹത്വം; കാര്യം ആരായുന്നതോ രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ മഹത്വം.

2. The glory of God is to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

3. ആകാശത്തിന്റെ ഉയരവും ഭൂമിയുടെ ആഴവും രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയവും അഗോചരം.

3. The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, but the heart of kings is unsearchable.

4. വെള്ളിയില്നിന്നു കീടം നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞാല് തട്ടാന്നു ഒരു ഉരുപ്പടി കിട്ടും.

4. Take away the dross from the silver, and a vessel of the refiner's shall appear.

5. രാജസന്നിധിയില്നിന്നു ദുഷ്ടനെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞാല് അവന്റെ സിംഹാസനം നീതിയാല് സ്ഥിരപ്പെടും.

5. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne is established in righteousness.

6. രാജസന്നിധിയില് വമ്പു കാണിക്കരുതു; മഹാന്മാരുടെ സ്ഥാനത്തു നില്ക്കയും അരുതു.

6. Do not honor yourself before a king, and do not stand in the place of the great.

7. നീ കണ്ടിരുന്ന പ്രഭുവിന്റെ മുമ്പില് നിനക്കു താഴ്ച ഭവിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ഇവിടെ കയറിവരിക എന്നു നിന്നോടു പറയുന്നതു നല്ലതു.

7. For it is better that he shall say to you, Come up here! than that you should be put lower before a noble whom your eyes have seen.

8. ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു വ്യവഹാരത്തിന്നു പുറപ്പെടരുതു; അല്ലെങ്കില് ഒടുക്കം കൂട്ടുകാരന് നിന്നെ ലജ്ജിപ്പിച്ചാല് നീ എന്തു ചെയ്യും?

8. Do not go out to fight hastily, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

9. Contend for your cause with your neighbor, and do not uncover the secret of another,

10. കേള്ക്കുന്നവന് നിന്നെ നിന്ദിപ്പാനും നിനക്കു തീരാത്ത അപമാനം വരുവാനും ഇടവരരുതു.

10. lest he who hears put you to shame, and your evil report not turn back.

11. തക്കസമയത്തു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു വെള്ളിത്താലത്തില് പൊന് നാരങ്ങാപോലെ.

11. A word rightly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

12. കേട്ടനുസരിക്കുന്ന കാതിന്നു ജ്ഞാനിയായോരു ശാസകന് പൊന് കടുക്കനും തങ്കം കൊണ്ടുള്ള ആഭരണവും ആകുന്നു.

12. As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover on a hearing ear.

13. വിശ്വസ്തനായ ദൂതന് തന്നെ അയക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും കൊയ്ത്തു കാലത്തു ഹിമത്തിന്റെ തണുപ്പുപോലെ; അവന് യജമാനന്മാരുടെ ഉള്ളം തണുപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

13. Like the cold of snow in harvest time, so is a faithful messenger to those sending him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

14. ദാനങ്ങളെച്ചൊല്ലി വെറുതെ പ്രശംസിക്കുന്നവന് മഴയില്ലാത്ത മേഘവും കാറ്റും പോലെയാകുന്നു.

14. A man boasting himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind, but with no rain.

15. ദീര്ഘക്ഷാന്തികൊണ്ടു ന്യായാധിപന്നു സമ്മതം വരുന്നു; മൃദുവായുള്ള നാവു അസ്ഥിയെ നുറുക്കുന്നു.

15. In being slow to anger, a ruler is persuaded; and a soft tongue shatters the bone.

16. നിനക്കു തേന് കിട്ടിയാല് വേണ്ടുന്നതേ ഭുജിക്കാവു; അധികം നിറഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഛര്ദ്ദിപ്പാന് ഇടവരരുതു.

16. Have you found honey? Eat only your fill lest you be satiated and vomit it out.

17. കൂട്ടുകാരന് നിന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു മടുത്തു നിന്നെ വെറുക്കാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന്റെ വീട്ടില് കൂടക്കൂടെ ചെല്ലരുതു.

17. Make your foot rare from your neighbor's house, lest he be full of you and hate you.

18. കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വിരോധമായി കള്ളസ്സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുന്ന മനുഷ്യന് മുട്ടികയും വാളും കൂര്ത്ത അമ്പും ആകുന്നു.

18. A man who gives false witness against his neighbor is a maul, and a sword and a sharp arrow.

19. കഷ്ടകാലത്തു വിശ്വാസപാതകനെ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നതു മുറിഞ്ഞ പല്ലും ഉളുക്കിയ കാലുംപോലെ ആകുന്നു.

19. Confidence in a treacherous man in time of distress is like a bad tooth and a slipping foot.

20. വിഷാദമുള്ള ഹൃദയത്തിന്നു പാട്ടു പാടുന്നവന് ശീതകാലത്തു വസ്ത്രം കളയുന്നതുപോലെയും യവക്ഷാരത്തിന്മേല് ചൊറുക്ക പകരുന്നതു പോലെയും ആകുന്നു.

20. As he who takes away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar on soda, so is he who sings songs on a heart in misery.

21. ശത്രുവിന്നു വിശക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന്നു തിന്മാന് കൊടുക്ക; ദാഹിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് കുടിപ്പാന് കൊടുക്ക.

24. It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than to share a house with a contentious woman.

25. ദാഹമുള്ളവന്നു തണ്ണീര് കിട്ടുന്നതും ദൂരദേശത്തുനിന്നു നല്ല വര്ത്തമാനം വരുന്നതും ഒരുപോലെ.

25. Like cold waters to a weary soul, so is a good report from a far country.

26. ദുഷ്ടന്റെ മുമ്പില് കുലുങ്ങിപ്പോയ നീതിമാന് കലങ്ങിയ കിണറ്റിന്നും മലിനമായ ഉറവിന്നും സമം.

26. The righteous falling down before the wicked is like a fouled fountain and a ruined spring.

27. തേന് ഏറെ കുടിക്കുന്നതു നന്നല്ല; പ്രയാസമുള്ളതു ആരായുന്നതോ മഹത്വം.

27. It is not good to eat much honey, and to search out their honor is not honor.

28. ആത്മസംയമം ഇല്ലാത്ത പുരുഷന് മതില് ഇല്ലാതെ ഇടിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്ന പട്ടണം പോലെയാകുന്നു.

28. A man to whom there is no control to his spirit is like a broken down city without a wall.
