1. ഞാന് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ചികിത്സ ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്, എഫ്രയീമിന്റെ അകൃത്യവും ശമര്യ്യയുടെ ദുഷ്ടതയും വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരുന്നു; അവര് വ്യാജം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നു; അകത്തു കള്ളന് കടക്കുന്നു; പുറത്തു കവര്ച്ചക്കാരുടെ കൂട്ടം കൊള്ളയിടുന്നു.

1. 'Whenever I want to heal my people Israel and make them prosperous again, all I can see is their wickedness and the evil they do. They cheat one another; they break into houses and steal; they rob people in the streets.

2. അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടതയൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ഔര്ക്കുംന്നു എന്നു അവര് മനസ്സില് വിചാരിക്കുന്നില്ല, ഇപ്പോള് അവരുടെ സ്വന്തപ്രവര്ത്തികള് അവരെ ചുറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവ എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

2. It never enters their heads that I will remember all this evil; but their sins surround them, and I cannot avoid seeing them.'

3. അവര് ദുഷ്ടതകൊണ്ടു രാജാവിനെയും ഭോഷകുകൊണ്ടു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

3. The LORD says, 'People deceive the king and his officers by their evil plots.

4. അവര് എല്ലാവരും വ്യഭിചാരികള് ആകുന്നു; അപ്പക്കാരന് ചൂടുപിടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അപ്പക്കൂടുപോലെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മാവു കുഴെച്ചതുമുതല് അതു പുളിക്കുവോളം തീയെരിക്കാതിരിക്കും.

4. They are all treacherous and disloyal. Their hatred smolders like the fire in an oven, which is not stirred by the baker until the dough is ready to bake.

5. നമ്മുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ ദിവസത്തില് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും വീഞ്ഞിന്റെ ഉഷ്ണത്താല് ദീനം പിടിക്കുന്നു; അവന് പരിഹാസികളോടുകൂടെ കൈ നീട്ടുന്നു.

5. On the day of the king's celebration they made the king and his officials drunk and foolish with wine.

6. അവര് പതിയിരിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തു തങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ അപ്പക്കൂടുപോലെ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ അപ്പക്കാരന് രാത്രി മുഴുവനും ഉറങ്ങുന്നു; രാവിലെ അതു ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന തീപോലെ കത്തുന്നു.

6. Yes, they burned like an oven with their plotting. All night their anger smoldered, and in the morning it burst into flames.

7. അവരൊക്കെയും അപ്പക്കൂടുപോലെ ചൂടുപിടിച്ചു, തങ്ങളുടെ ന്യായാധിപതിമാരെ തിന്നുകളയുന്നു; അവരുടെ രാജാക്കന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും വീണിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഇടയില് എന്നോടു അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് ആരുമില്ല.

7. 'In the heat of their anger they murdered their rulers. Their kings have been assassinated one after another, but no one prays to me for help.'

8. എഫ്രയീം ജാതികളോടു ഇടകലര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; എഫ്രയീം മറിച്ചിടാത്ത ദോശ ആകുന്നു.

8. The LORD says, 'The people of Israel are like a half-baked loaf of bread. They rely on the nations around them

9. അന്യജാതികള് അവന്റെ ബലം തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞു എങ്കിലും അവന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; അവന്നു അവിടവിടെ നരെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലും അവന് അറിയുന്നില്ല.

9. and do not realize that this reliance on foreigners has robbed them of their strength. Their days are numbered, but they don't even know it.

10. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ അഹംഭാവം അവന്റെ മുഖത്തു സാക്ഷീകരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിവന്നിട്ടില്ല; ഇതില് ഒക്കെയും അവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചിട്ടും ഇല്ല.

10. The arrogance of the people of Israel cries out against them. In spite of everything that has happened, they have not returned to me, the LORD their God.

11. എഫ്രയീം ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാത്ത പൊട്ടപ്രാവുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അവര് മിസ്രയീമിനെ വിളിക്കയും അശ്ശൂരിലേക്കു പോകയും ചെയ്യന്നു.

11. Israel flits around like a silly pigeon; first her people call on Egypt for help, and then they run to Assyria!

12. അവര് പോകുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്റെ വല അവരുടെ മേല് വീശും; ഞാന് അവരെ ആകാശത്തിലെ പറവകളെപ്പോലെ താഴെ വരുത്തും; അവരുടെ സഭയെ കേള്പ്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവരെ ശിക്ഷിക്കും.

12. But I will spread out a net and catch them like birds as they go by. I will punish them for the evil they have done.

13. അവര് എന്നെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയതുകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം; അവര് എന്നോടു അതിക്രമം ചെയ്കകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും നാശം; ഞാന് അവരെ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പാന് വിചാരിച്ചിട്ടും അവര് എന്നോടു ഭോഷകു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.

13. 'They are doomed! They have left me and rebelled against me. They will be destroyed. I wanted to save them, but their worship of me was false.

14. അവര് ഹൃദയപൂര്വ്വം എന്നോടു നിലവിളിക്കാതെ കിടക്കയില്വെച്ചു മുറയിടുന്നു; അവര് ധാന്യവും വീഞ്ഞും നിമിത്തം ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടുന്നു; അവര് എന്നോടു മത്സരിക്കുന്നു.

14. They have not prayed to me sincerely, but instead they throw themselves down and wail as the heathen do. When they pray for grain and wine, they gash themselves like pagans. What rebels they are!

15. ഞാന് അവരുടെ ഭുജങ്ങളെ അഭ്യസിപ്പിച്ചു ബലപ്പെടുത്തീട്ടും അവര് എന്റെ നേരെ ദോഷം നിരൂപിക്കുന്നു.

15. Even though I was the one who brought them up and made them strong, they plotted against me.

16. അവര് തിരിയുന്നു, മേലോട്ടു അല്ലതാനും; അവര് വഞ്ചനയുള്ള വില്ലുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അവരുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് നാവിന്റെ ക്രോധംനിമിത്തം വാളുകൊണ്ടു വീഴും; അതു മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തു അവര്ക്കും പരിഹാസഹേതുവായ്തീരും.

16. They keep on turning away from me to a god that is powerless. They are as unreliable as a crooked bow. Because their leaders talk arrogantly, they will die a violent death, and the Egyptians will laugh.'
