1. And traveling through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

2. പൌലൊസ് പതിവു പോലെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു മൂന്നു ശബ്ബത്തില് തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ ആധാരമാക്കി അവരോടു വാദിച്ചു.

2. And according to Paul's custom, he went in to them and reasoned with them from the Scriptures on three sabbaths,

3. ക്രിസ്തു കഷ്ടം അനുഭവിക്കയും മരിച്ചവരില് നിന്നു ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേലക്കുയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്നും ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു അറിയിക്കുന്ന ഈ യേശുതന്നേ ക്രിസ്തു എന്നു തെളിയിച്ചു വിവരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

3. opening and setting forth that the Christ must have suffered, and to have risen from the dead, and that this is the Christ, Jesus, whom I announce to you.

4. അവരില് ചിലരും ഭക്തിയുള്ള യവനന്മാരില് ഒരു വലിയ കൂട്ടവും മാന്യസ്ത്രീകളില് അനേകരും വിശ്വസിച്ചു പൌലൊസിനോടും ശീലാസിനോടും ചേര്ന്നു.

4. And some of them were persuaded and joined themselves to Paul and Silas, both a great multitude of the worshiping Greeks, and not a few of the leading women.

5. യെഹൂദന്മാരോ അസൂയപൂണ്ടു, മിനക്കെട്ടുനടക്കുന്ന ചില ദുഷ്ടന്മാരെ ചേര്ത്തു പുരുഷാരത്തെ ഇളക്കി പട്ടണത്തില് കലഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യാസോന്റെ വീടു വളഞ്ഞു അവരെ ജനസമൂഹത്തില് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് ശ്രമിച്ചു.

5. But becoming jealous, and having taken aside some wicked men of the market loafers, and gathering a crowd, the disobeying Jews set the city into turmoil. And coming on the house of Jason, they sought to bring them on to the mob.

6. അവരെ കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു യാസോനെയും ചില സഹോദരന്മാരെയും നഗരാധിപന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു ഇഴെച്ചുകൊണ്ടുഭൂലോകത്തെ കലഹിപ്പിച്ചവര് ഇവിടെയും എത്തി;

6. But not finding them, they dragged Jason and some brothers before the city judges, crying, Those turning the habitable world upside down have come here, too;

7. whom Jason has received. And these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king, Jesus.

8. And hearing these things, they troubled the crowd and the city judges.

9. And taking security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

10. സഹോദരന്മാര് ഉടനെ, രാത്രിയില് തന്നേ, പൌലൊസിനെയും ശീലാസിനെയും ബെരോവേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു. അവിടെ എത്തിയാറെ അവര് യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ പള്ളിയില് പോയി.

10. But the brothers at once sent both Paul and Silas to Berea during the night; who having arrived went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11. അവര് തെസ്സലോനീക്കയിലുള്ളവരെക്കാള് ഉത്തമന്മാരായിരുന്നു. അവര് വചനം പൂര്ണ്ണജാഗ്രതയോടെ കൈക്കൊണ്ടതല്ലാതെ അതു അങ്ങനെ തന്നെയോ എന്നു ദിനംപ്രതി തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ പരിശോധിച്ചു പോന്നു.

11. And these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the Word with all readiness, daily examining the Scriptures if these things are so.

12. അവരില് പലരും മാന്യരായ യവനസ്ത്രീകളിലും പുരുഷന്മാരിലും അനേകരും വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

12. Then indeed many from among them believed, and not a few of the honorable Greek women and men.

13. പൌലൊസ് ബെരോവയിലും ദൈവവചനം അറിയച്ചതു തെസ്സലൊനീക്കയിലെ യെഹൂദന്മാര് അറിഞ്ഞു അവിടെയും വന്നു പുരുഷാരത്തെ ഇളക്കി ഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചു.

13. But when the Jews from Thessalonica knew that the Word of God was also announced in Berea by Paul, they came there also, shaking up the crowd.

14. ഉടനെ സഹോദരന്മാര് പൌലൊസിനെ സമുദ്രതീരത്തേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു; ശീലാസും തിമൊഥെയോസും അവിടെത്തന്നേ പാര്ത്തു.

14. And immediately, then, the brothers sent away Paul, to go as toward the sea. But both Silas and Timothy remained there.

15. പൌലൊസിനോടുകൂടെ വഴിത്തുണ പോയവര് അവനെ അഥേനയോളം കൊണ്ടുപോയി; ശീലാസും തിമൊഥെയോസും കഴിയുന്ന വേഗത്തില് തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരേണം എന്നുള്ള കല്പന വാങ്ങി മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

15. But those conducting Paul brought him as far as Athens. And receiving a command to Silas and Timothy that they come to him quickly, they departed.

16. അഥേനയില് പൌലൊസ് അവര്ക്കായി കാത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോള് നഗരത്തില് ബിംബങ്ങള് നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു മനസ്സിന്നു ചൂടുപിടിച്ചു.

16. But awaiting them in Athens, Paul's spirit was pained within him, seeing the city full of images.

17. അവന് പള്ളിയില്വെച്ചു യെഹൂദന്മാരോടും ദൈവഭക്തന്മാരോടും ചന്ത സ്ഥലത്തു ദിവസേന കണ്ടവരോടും സംഭാഷിച്ചുപോന്നു.

17. Then, indeed, he addressed the Jews in the synagogue, and those worshiping, also in the market every day, to those happening to be there.

18. എപ്പിക്കൂര്യ്യരും സ്തോയിക്കരും ആയ തത്വജ്ഞാനികളില് ചിലര് അവനോടു വാദിച്ചുഈ വിടുവായന് എന്തു പറവാന് പോകുന്നു എന്നു ചിലരും അവന് യേശുവിനെയും പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തെയും പ്രസംഗിക്ക കൊണ്ടുഇവന് അന്യദേവതകളെ ഘോഷിക്കുന്നവന് എന്നു തോന്നുന്നു മറ്റു ചിലരും പറഞ്ഞു

18. And some of the Epicureans and of the Stoics, philosophers, fell in with him. And some said, What may this seed-picker wish to say? And these others, He seems to be an announcer of foreign demons (because he announced Jesus and the resurrection to them).

19. പിന്നെ അവനെ പിടിച്ചു അരയോപഗക്കുന്നിന്മേല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുനീ പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്ന ഈ നവീനോപദേശം ഇന്നതു എന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അറിയാമോ?

19. And taking hold of him, they led him to the Areopagus, saying, Are we able to know what is this new doctrine being spoken by you?

20. നീ ചില അപൂര്വങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചെവിയില് കടത്തുന്നുവല്ലോ; അതു എന്തു എന്നു അറിവാന് ഞങ്ങള് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. For you bring startling things to our ears. We are minded, then, to know what these things wish to be.

21. എന്നാല് അഥേനര് ഒക്കെയും അവിടെ വന്നു പാര്ക്കുംന്ന പരദേശികളും വല്ല പുതുമയും പറകയോ കേള്ക്കയോ ചെയ്വാനല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നിന്നും അവസരമുള്ളവരല്ല.

21. And all Athenians and the strangers living there have leisure for nothing else than to say and to hear newer things.

22. പൌലൊസ് അരയോപഗമദ്ധ്യേ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു പറഞ്ഞതു. അഥേനപുരുഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാറ്റിലും അതിഭക്തന്മാര് എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

22. And standing in the middle of the Areopagus, Paul said, Men, Athenians, I see in everything how god-fearing you are;

23. ഞാന് ചുറ്റിനടന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ പൂജാസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ നോക്കുമ്പോള് “അജ്ഞാത ദേവന്നു” എന്നു എഴുത്തുള്ള ഒരു വേദിക്കല്ലു കണ്ടു; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് അറിയാതെ പൂജിക്കുന്നതു തന്നേ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു അറിയിക്കുന്നു.

23. for passing through and looking up at the objects of your worship, I also found an altar on which had been written, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Not knowing, then, whom you worship, I make Him known to you.

24. The God who made the world and all things in it, this One being Lord of Heaven and of earth, does not dwell in handmade temples,

25. കൈപ്പണിയായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില് വാസം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല. താന് എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ജീവനും ശ്വാസവും സകലവും കൊടുക്കുന്നവന് ആകയാല് വല്ലതിന്നും മുട്ടുള്ളവന് എന്നപോലെ മാനുഷ്യകൈകളാല് ശുശ്രൂഷ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നില്ല.

25. nor is served by hands of men, as having need of anything. For He is giving life and breath and all things to all.

27. to seek the Lord, if perhaps they might feel after Him and might find Him, though indeed He not being far from each one of us.

28. അവനിലല്ലോ നാം ജീവിക്കയും ചരിക്കയും ഇരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ കവിവരന്മാരിലും ചിലര് “നാം അവന്റെ സന്താനമല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. For in Him we live and move and exist, as also some of the poets among you have said, For we are also His offspring.

29. Then being offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that the Godhead is like gold or silver or stone, engraved by art and the imagination of man.

30. Truly, then, God overlooking the times of ignorance, now strictly commands all men everywhere to repent,

32. And hearing of a resurrection of the dead, some indeed ridiculed, but said, We will hear you again concerning this.

33. And so Paul went out from their midst.

34. ചില പുരുഷന്മാര് അവനോടു ചേര്ന്നു വിശ്വസിച്ചു; അവരില് അരയോപഗസ്ഥാനിയായ ദിയൊനുസ്യോസും ദമരീസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു സ്ത്രീയും മറ്റു ചിലരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

34. But some men believed, joining themselves to him, among whom also were both Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
