1. നിങ്ങളില് ശണ്ഠയും കലഹവും എവിടെ നിന്നു? നിങ്ങളുടെ അവയവങ്ങളില് പോരാടുന്ന ഭോഗേച്ഛകളില് നിന്നല്ലയോ?

1. From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2. നിങ്ങള് മോഹിച്ചിട്ടും പ്രാപിക്കുന്നില്ല; നിങ്ങള് കൊല്ലുകയും അസൂയപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടും ഒന്നും സാധിക്കുന്നില്ല; നിങ്ങള് കലഹിക്കയും ശണ്ഠയിടുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടും യാചിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു കിട്ടുന്നില്ല.

2. Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3. നിങ്ങള് യാചിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭോഗങ്ങളില് ചെലവിടേണ്ടതിന്നു വല്ലാതെ യാചിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഒന്നും ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല.

3. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4. വ്യഭിചാരിണികളായുള്ളോരേ, ലോകസ്നേഹം ദൈവത്തോടു ശത്രുത്വം ആകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ? ആകയാല് ലോകത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന് ആകുവാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നവനെല്ലാം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശത്രുവായിത്തീരുന്നു.

4. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5. അല്ലെങ്കില് തിരുവെഴുത്തു വെറുതെ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു തോന്നുന്നുവോ? അവന് നമ്മില് വസിക്കുമാറാക്കിയ ആത്മാവു അസൂയെക്കായി കാംക്ഷിക്കുന്നുവോ?

5. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

8. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10. കര്ത്താവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് താഴുവിന് ; എന്നാല് അവന് നിങ്ങളെ ഉയര്ത്തും.

10. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, അന്യോന്യം ദുഷിക്കരുതു; തന്റെ സഹോദരനെ ദുഷിക്കയും വിധിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവന് ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ ദുഷിക്കയും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ വിധിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ വിധിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് നീ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നവനല്ല, വിധിക്കുന്നവനത്രേ.

11. Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12. ന്യായപ്രമാണകര്ത്താവും ന്യായാധിപതിയും ഒരുവനേയുള്ളുരക്ഷിപ്പാനും നശിപ്പിപ്പാനും ശക്തനായവന് തന്നേ; കൂട്ടുകാരനെ വിധിപ്പാന് നീ ആര്?

12. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

13. ഇന്നോ നാളെയോ ഞങ്ങള് ഇന്ന പട്ടണത്തില് പോയി അവിടെ ഒരാണ്ടു കഴിച്ചു വ്യാപാരം ചെയ്തു ലാഭം ഉണ്ടാക്കും എന്നു പറയുന്നവരേ, കേള്പ്പിന്

13. Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14. നാളെത്തേതു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; നിങ്ങളുടെ ജീവന് എങ്ങനെയുള്ളതു? അല്പനേരത്തേക്കു കാണുന്നതും പിന്നെ മറഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നതുമായ ആവിയല്ലോ.

14. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15. കര്ത്താവിന്നു ഇഷ്ടമുണ്ടെങ്കില് ഞങ്ങള് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു ഇന്നിന്നതു ചെയ്യും എന്നല്ലയോ പറയേണ്ടതു.

15. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16. നിങ്ങളോ വമ്പു പറഞ്ഞു പ്രശംസിക്കുന്നു; ഈവക പ്രശംസ എല്ലാം ദോഷം ആകുന്നു.

16. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17. നന്മ ചെയ്വാനറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും ചെയ്യാത്തവന്നു അതു പാപം തന്നേ.

17. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
