1. അനന്തരം ദാവീദ്ഞാന് ഒരു ദിവസം ശൌലിന്റെ കയ്യാല് നശിക്കേയുള്ളു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോകയല്ലാതെ എനിക്കു വേറെ നിവൃത്തിയില്ല; ശൌല് അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്ദേശത്തൊക്കെയും എന്നെ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതു മതിയാക്കും; ഞാന് അവന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോകും എന്നു മനസ്സില് നിശ്ചയിച്ചു.

1. And David said in his heart, 'I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.'

2. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു; താനും കൂടെയുള്ള അറുനൂറുപേരും ഗത്ത്രാജാവായ മാവോക്കിന്റെ മകന് ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

2. So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

3. യിസ്രെയേല്ക്കാരത്തിയായ അഹീനോവം, നാബാലിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായിരുന്ന അബീഗയില് എന്ന രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരുമായി ദാവീദും കുടുംബസഹിതം അവന്റെ എല്ലാ ആളുകളും ഗത്തില് ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പാര്ത്തു.

3. And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal's widow.

4. ദാവീദ് ഗത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി എന്നു ശൌലിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി; അവന് പിന്നെ അവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചതുമില്ല.

4. And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he sought for him no more.

5. ദാവീദ് ആഖീശിനോടുനിനക്കു എന്നോടു കൃപയുണ്ടെങ്കില് നാട്ടുപുറത്തു ഒരു ഊരില് എനിക്കു ഒരു സ്ഥലം കല്പിച്ചുതരുവിക്കേണം; അവിടെ ഞാന് പാര്ത്തുകൊള്ളാം. രാജനഗരത്തില് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അടയിന് പാര്ക്കുംന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then David said to Achish, 'If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there; for why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?'

6. ആഖീശ് അന്നുതന്നെ അവന്നു സിക്ളാഗ് കല്പിച്ചു കൊടുത്തു; അതുകൊണ്ടു സിക്ളാഗ് ഇന്നുവരെയും യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കുംള്ളതായിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. So that day Achish gave him Ziklag; therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.

7. ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തകാലം ഒരു ആണ്ടും നാലു മാസവും ആയിരുന്നു.

7. And the number of the days that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.

8. ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും ഗെശൂര്യ്യരെയും ഗെസ്രിയരെയും അമാലേക്യരെയും ചെന്നു ആക്രമിച്ചു. ഇവര് ശൂര്വരെയും മിസ്രയീംദേശംവരെയുമുള്ള നാട്ടിലെ പൂര്വ്വ നിവാസികളായിരുന്നു.

8. Now David and his men went up, and made raids upon the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for these were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as far as Shur, to the land of Egypt.

9. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ് ആ ദേശത്തെ ആക്രമിച്ചു; പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും ജീവനോടെ വെച്ചേച്ചില്ല; ആടുമാടുകള്, കഴുതകള്, ഒട്ടകങ്ങള്, വസ്ത്രങ്ങള് എന്നിവയൊക്കെയും അപഹരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിവന്നു.

9. And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the asses, the camels, and the garments, and came back to Achish.

10. നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നു എവിടെയായിരുന്നു പോയി ആക്രമിച്ചതു എന്നു ആഖീശ് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയെഹൂദെക്കു തെക്കും യെരപ്മേല്യര്ക്കും തെക്കും കേന്യര്ക്കും തെക്കും എന്നു ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

10. When Achish asked, 'Against whom have you made a raid today?' David would say, 'Against the Negeb of Judah,' or 'Against the Negeb of the Jerahmeelites,' or, 'Against the Negeb of the Kenites.'

11. ദാവീദ് ഇങ്ങനെയൊക്കെയും ചെയ്തു, അവന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്ത കാലമൊക്കെയും അവന്റെ പതിവു ഇതായിരുന്നു എന്നു അവര് നമ്മെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയരുതു എന്നുവെച്ചു ഗത്തില് വിവരം അറിയിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ദാവീദ് പുരുഷനെയാകട്ടെ സ്ത്രീയെയാകട്ടെ ജീവനോടെ വെച്ചേച്ചില്ല.

11. And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, thinking, 'Lest they should tell about us, and say, `So David has done.'' Such was his custom all the while he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.

12. ദാവീദ് സ്വജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു തന്നെത്താന് നാറ്റിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് എന്നും എന്റെ ദാസനായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ആഖീശ് അവനില് വിശ്വാസംവെച്ചു.

12. And Achish trusted David, thinking, 'He has made himself utterly abhorred by his people Israel; therefore he shall be my servant always.'
