1. ഇങ്ങനെ അബ്രാമും ഭാര്യയും അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ലോത്തും മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു തെക്കെ ദേശത്തു വന്നു.

1. So Abram left Egypt and went back to the Negev, he and his wife and everything he owned, and Lot still with him.

2. കന്നുകാലി, വെള്ളി, പൊന്നു ഈ വകയില് അബ്രാം ബഹുസമ്പന്നനായിരുന്നു.

2. By now Abram was very rich, loaded with cattle and silver and gold.

3. അവന് തന്റെ യാത്രയില് തെക്കുനിന്നു ബേഥേല്വരെയും ബേഥേലിന്നും ഹായിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ തനിക്കു ആദിയില് കൂടാരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതും താന് ആദിയില് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ യാഗപീഠമിരുന്നതുമായ സ്ഥലംവരെയും ചെന്നു.

3. He moved on from the Negev, camping along the way, to Bethel, the place he had first set up his tent between Bethel and Ai

4. അവിടെ അബ്രാം യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് ആരാധിച്ചു.

4. and built his first altar. Abram prayed there to GOD.

5. അബ്രാമിനോടുകൂടെവന്ന ലോത്തിന്നും ആടുമാടുകളും കൂടാരങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

5. Lot, who was traveling with Abram, was also rich in sheep and cattle and tents.

6. അവര് ഒന്നിച്ചുപാര്പ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ദേശത്തിന്നു അവരെ വഹിച്ചു കൂടാഞ്ഞു; സമ്പത്തു വളരെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും ഒന്നിച്ചുപാര്പ്പാന് കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

6. But the land couldn't support both of them; they had too many possessions. They couldn't both live there--

7. അബ്രാമിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളുടെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും ലോത്തിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളുടെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും തമ്മില് പിണക്കമുണ്ടായി; കനാന്യരും പെരിസ്യരും അന്നു ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

7. quarrels broke out between Abram's shepherds and Lot's shepherds. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living on the land at the time.

8. അതു കൊണ്ടു അബ്രാം ലോത്തിനോടുഎനിക്കും നിനക്കും എന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും നിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും തമ്മില് പിണക്കം ഉണ്ടാകരുതേ; നാം സഹോദരന്മാരല്ലോ.

8. Abram said to Lot, 'Let's not have fighting between us, between your shepherds and my shepherds. After all, we're family.

9. ദേശമെല്ലാം നിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഇല്ലയോ? എന്നെ വിട്ടുപിരിഞ്ഞാലും. നീ ഇടത്തോട്ടെങ്കില് ഞാന് വലത്തോട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം; നീ വലത്തോട്ടെങ്കില് ഞാന് ഇടത്തോട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Look around. Isn't there plenty of land out there? Let's separate. If you go left, I'll go right; if you go right, I'll go left.'

10. അപ്പോള് ലോത്ത് നോക്കി, യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള പ്രദേശം ഒക്കെയും നീരോട്ടമുള്ളതെന്നു കണ്ടു; യഹോവ സൊദോമിനെയും ഗൊമോരയെയും നശിപ്പിച്ചതിന്നു മുമ്പെ അതു യഹോവയുടെ തോട്ടംപോലെയും സോവര്വരെ മിസ്രയീംദേശംപോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

10. Lot looked. He saw the whole plain of the Jordan spread out, well watered (this was before GOD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah), like GOD's garden, like Egypt, and stretching all the way to Zoar.

11. ലോത്ത് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള പ്രദേശം ഒക്കെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു; ഇങ്ങനെ ലോത്ത് കിഴക്കോട്ടു യാത്രയായി; അവര് തമ്മില് പരിഞ്ഞു.

11. Lot took the whole plain of the Jordan. Lot set out to the east. That's how they came to part company, uncle and nephew.

12. അബ്രാം കനാന് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തു; ലോത്ത് ആ പ്രദേശത്തിലെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില് പാര്ത്തു സൊദോംവരെ കൂടാരം നീക്കി നീക്കി അടിച്ചു.

12. Abram settled in Canaan; Lot settled in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent near Sodom.

13. സൊദോംനിവാസികള് ദുഷ്ടന്മാരും യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ മഹാപാപികളും ആയിരുന്നു.

13. The people of Sodom were evil--flagrant sinners against GOD.

14. ലോത്ത് അബ്രാമിനെ വിട്ടു പിരിഞ്ഞശേഷം യഹോവ അബ്രാമിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുതലപൊക്കി, നീ ഇരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്നു വടക്കോട്ടും തെക്കോട്ടും കിഴക്കോട്ടും പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടും നോക്കുക.

14. After Lot separated from him, GOD said to Abram, 'Open your eyes, look around. Look north, south, east, and west.

15. നീ കാണുന്ന ഭൂമി ഒക്കെയും ഞാന് നിനക്കും നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ശാശ്വതമായി തരും.

15. Everything you see, the whole land spread out before you, I will give to you and your children forever.

16. ഞാന് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ ഭൂമിയിലെ പൊടിപോലെ ആക്കുംഭൂമിയിലെ പൊടിയെ എണ്ണുവാന് കഴിയുമെങ്കില് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെയും എണ്ണാം.

16. I'll make your descendants like dust--counting your descendants will be as impossible as counting the dust of the Earth.

17. നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ദേശത്തു നെടുകെയും കുറുകെയും സഞ്ചരിക്ക; ഞാന് അതു നിനക്കു തരും.

17. So--on your feet, get moving! Walk through the country, its length and breadth; I'm giving it all to you.'

18. അപ്പോള് അബ്രാം കൂടാരം നീക്കി ഹെബ്രോനില് മമ്രേയുടെ തോപ്പില് വന്നു പാര്ത്തു; അവിടെ യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു.

18. Abram moved his tent. He went and settled by the Oaks of Mamre in Hebron. There he built an altar to GOD.
