1. When the two angels came to Sodom that evening, Lot was sitting at the city gate. As soon as he saw them, he got up and went to meet them. He bowed down before them

2. and said, 'Sirs, I am here to serve you. Please come to my house. You can wash your feet and spend the night. In the morning you can get up early and go on your way.' But they answered, 'No, we will spend the night here in the city square.'

3. He kept on urging them, and finally they went with him to his house. Lot ordered his servants to bake some bread and prepare a fine meal for the guests. When it was ready, they ate it.

4. Before the guests went to bed, the men of Sodom surrounded the house. All the men of the city, both young and old, were there.

5. They called out to Lot and asked, 'Where are the men who came to stay with you tonight? Bring them out to us!' The men of Sodom wanted to have sex with them.

6. Lot went outside and closed the door behind him.

7. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ഇങ്ങനെ ദോഷം ചെയ്യരുതേ.

7. He said to them, 'Friends, I beg you, don't do such a wicked thing!

8. പുരുഷന് തൊടാത്ത രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാര് എനിക്കുണ്ടു; അവരെ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരാം; നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ അവരോടു ചെയ്തുകൊള്വിന് ; ഈ പുരുഷന്മാരോടു മാത്രം ഒന്നും ചെയ്യരുതേ; ഇതിന്നായിട്ടല്ലോ അവര് എന്റെ വീട്ടിന്റെ നിഴലില് വന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Look, I have two daughters who are still virgins. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do whatever you want with them. But don't do anything to these men; they are guests in my house, and I must protect them.'

9. മാറിനില്ക്ക എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു. ഇവനൊരുത്തന് പരദേശിയായി വന്നു പാര്ക്കുംന്നു; ന്യായംവിധിപ്പാനും ഭാവിക്കുന്നു. ഇപ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് അവരോടു ഭാവിച്ചതിലധികം നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്യും എന്നും അവര് പറഞ്ഞു ലോത്തിനെ ഏറ്റവും തിക്കി വാതില് പൊളിപ്പാന് അടുത്തു.

9. But they said, 'Get out of our way, you foreigner! Who are you to tell us what to do? Out of our way, or we will treat you worse than them.' They pushed Lot back and moved up to break down the door.

10. അപ്പോള് ആ പുരുാഷന്മാര് കൈ പുറത്തോട്ടു നീട്ടി ലോത്തിനെ തങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് അകത്തു കയറ്റി വാതില്അടെച്ചു,

10. But the two men inside reached out, pulled Lot back into the house, and shut the door.

11. വാതില്ക്കല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പുരുഷന്മാര്ക്കും അബാലവൃദ്ധം അന്ധത പിടിപ്പിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് വാതില് തപ്പി നടന്നു വിഷമിച്ചു.

11. Then they struck all the men outside with blindness, so that they couldn't find the door.

12. ആ പുരുഷന്മാര് ലോത്തിനോടുഇവിടെ നിനക്കു മറ്റു വല്ലവരുമുണ്ടോ? മരുമക്കളോ പുത്രന്മാരോ പുത്രിമാരോ ഇങ്ങനെ പട്ടണത്തില് നിനക്കുള്ളവരെയൊക്കെയും ഈ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപൊയ്ക്കെള്ക;

12. The two men said to Lot, 'If you have anyone else here---sons, daughters, sons-in-law, or any other relatives living in the city---get them out of here,

13. ഇവരെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ആവലാധി യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ വലുതായിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഞങ്ങള് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കും. അതിനെ നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. because we are going to destroy this place. The LORD has heard the terrible accusations against these people and has sent us to destroy Sodom.'

14. Then Lot went to the men that his daughters were going to marry, and said, 'Hurry up and get out of here; the LORD is going to destroy this place.' But they thought he was joking.

15. At dawn the angels tried to make Lot hurry. 'Quick!' they said. 'Take your wife and your two daughters and get out, so that you will not lose your lives when the city is destroyed.'

16. അവന് താമസിച്ചപ്പോള്, യഹോവ അവനോടു കരുണ ചെയ്കയാല്, ആ പുരുഷന്മാര് അവനെയും ഭാര്യയെയും രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാരെയും കൈകൂ പിടിച്ചു പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോയിആക്കി.

16. Lot hesitated. The LORD, however, had pity on him; so the men took him, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and led them out of the city.

17. അവരെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ശേഷം അവന് ജീവരക്ഷെക്കായി ഔടിപ്പോകപുറകോട്ടു നോക്കരുതു; ഈ പ്രദേശത്തെങ്ങും നില്ക്കയുമരുതു; നിനക്കു നാശം ഭവിക്കാതിരിപ്പാന് പര്വ്വതത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോക എന്നുപറഞ്ഞു.

17. Then one of the angels said, 'Run for your lives! Don't look back and don't stop in the valley. Run to the hills, so that you won't be killed.'

18. ലോത്ത് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഅങ്ങനെയല്ല കര്ത്താവേ;

18. But Lot answered, 'No, please don't make us do that, sir.

19. നിനക്കു അടിയനോടു കൃപ തോന്നിയല്ലോ; എന്റെ ജീവനെ രക്ഷിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു വലിയ കൃപ നീ കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; പര്വ്വതത്തില് ഔടി എത്തുവാന് എനിക്കു കഴികയില്ല; പക്ഷേ എനിക്കു ദോഷം തട്ടി മരണം ഭവിക്കും.

19. You have done me a great favor and saved my life. But the hills are too far away; the disaster will overtake me, and I will die before I get there.

20. ഇതാ, ഈ പട്ടണം സമീപമാകുന്നു; അവിടേക്കു എനിക്കു ഔടാം; അതു ചെറിയതുമാകുന്നു; ഞാന് അവിടേക്കു ഔടിപ്പേകട്ടെ. അതു ചെറിയതല്ലോ; എന്നാല് എനിക്കു ജീവരക്ഷ ഉണ്ടാകും.

20. Do you see that little town? It is near enough. Let me go over there---you can see it is just a small place---and I will be safe.'

21. അവന് അവനോടുഇക്കാര്യത്തിലും ഞാന് നിന്നെ കടാക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ പറഞ്ഞ പട്ടണം ഞാന് മറിച്ചുകളകയില്ല.

21. He answered, 'All right, I agree. I won't destroy that town.

22. ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു അവിടേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോക; നീ അവിടെ എത്തുവോളം എനിക്കു ഒന്നും ചെയ്വാന് കഴികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതു കൊണ്ടു ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു സോവര് എന്നു പേരായി.

22. Hurry! Run! I can't do anything until you get there.' Because Lot called it small, the town was named Zoar.

23. ലോത്ത് സോവരില് കടന്നപ്പോള് സൂര്യന് ഉദിച്ചിരുന്നു.

23. The sun was rising when Lot reached Zoar.

24. യഹോവ സൊദോമിന്റെയും ഗൊമോരയുടെയും മേല് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്നിന്നു, ആകാശത്തു നിന്നു തന്നെ, ഗന്ധകവും തീയും വര്ഷിപ്പിച്ചു.

24. Suddenly the LORD rained burning sulfur on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah

25. ആ പട്ടണങ്ങള്ക്കും പ്രദേശത്തിന്നും മുഴുവനും ആ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലെ സകലനിവാസികള്ക്കും നിലത്തെ സസ്യങ്ങള്ക്കും ഉന്മൂലനാശം വരുത്തി.

25. and destroyed them and the whole valley, along with all the people there and everything that grew on the land.

26. ലോത്തിന്റെ ഭാര്യ അവന്റെ പിന്നില്നിന്നു തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കി ഉപ്പുതൂണായി ഭവിച്ചു.

26. But Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.

27. അബ്രാഹാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു താന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു ചെന്നു,

27. Early the next morning Abraham hurried to the place where he had stood in the presence of the LORD.

28. സൊദോമിന്നും ഗൊമോരെക്കും ആ പ്രദേശത്തിലെ സകലദിക്കിന്നും നേരെ നോക്കി, ദേശത്തിലെ പുക തീച്ചൂളയിലെ പുകപോലെ പൊങ്ങുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

28. He looked down at Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole valley and saw smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a huge furnace.

29. എന്നാല് ആ പ്രദേശത്തിലെപട്ടണങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോള് ദൈവം അബ്രാഹാമിനെ ഔര്ത്തു ലോത്ത് പാര്ത്ത പട്ടണങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉന്മൂലനാശം വരുത്തുകയില് ലോത്തിനെ ആ ഉന്മൂലനാശത്തില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു.

29. But when God destroyed the cities of the valley where Lot was living, he kept Abraham in mind and allowed Lot to escape to safety.

30. അനന്തരം ലോത്ത് സോവര് വിട്ടുപോയി; അവനും അവന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാരും പര്വ്വതത്തില് ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു; സോവരില് പാര്പ്പാന് അവന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു; അവനും അവന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാരും ഒരു ഗുഹയില് പാര്ത്തു.

30. Because Lot was afraid to stay in Zoar, he and his two daughters moved up into the hills and lived in a cave.

31. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് മൂത്തവള് ഇളയവളോടുനമ്മുടെ അപ്പന് വൃദ്ധനായിരിക്കുന്നു; ഭൂമിയില് എല്ലാടവും ഉള്ള നടപ്പുപോലെ നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കല് വരുവാന് ഭൂമിയില് ഒരു പുരുഷനും ഇല്ല.

31. The older daughter said to her sister, 'Our father is getting old, and there are no men in the whole world to marry us so that we can have children.

32. വരിക; അപ്പനാല് സന്തതി ലഭിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ വീഞ്ഞുകുടിപ്പിച്ചു അവനോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. Come on, let's get our father drunk, so that we can sleep with him and have children by him.'

33. അങ്ങനെ അന്നു രാത്രി അവര് അപ്പനെ വീഞ്ഞുകുടിപ്പിച്ചു; മൂത്തവള് അകത്തു ചെന്നു അപ്പനോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; അവള് ശയിച്ചതും എഴുന്നേറ്റതും അവന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

33. That night they gave him wine to drink, and the older daughter had intercourse with him. But he was so drunk that he didn't know it.

34. പിറ്റെന്നാള് മൂത്തവള് ഇളയവളോടുഇന്നലെ രാത്രി ഞാന് അപ്പനോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; നാം അവനെ ഇന്നു രാത്രിയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിപ്പിക്ക; അപ്പനാല് സന്തതി ലഭിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീയും അകത്തുചെന്നു അവനോടു കൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34. The next day the older daughter said to her sister, 'I slept with him last night; now let's get him drunk again tonight, and you sleep with him. Then each of us will have a child by our father.'

35. അങ്ങനെ അന്നു രാത്രിയും അവര് അപ്പനെ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിപ്പിച്ചു; ഇളയവള് ചെന്നു അവനോടു കൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; അവള് ശയിച്ചതും എഴുന്നേറ്റതും അവന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

35. So that night they got him drunk, and the younger daughter had intercourse with him. Again he was so drunk that he didn't know it.

36. ഇങ്ങനെ ലോത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാരും അപ്പനാല് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു.

36. In this way both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their own father.

37. മൂത്തവള് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു അവന്നു മോവാബ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; അവന് ഇന്നുള്ള മോവാബ്യര്ക്കും പിതാവു.

37. The older daughter had a son, whom she named Moab. He was the ancestor of the present-day Moabites.

38. ഇളയവളും ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന്നു ബെന് -അമ്മീ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; അവന് ഇന്നുള്ള അമ്മോന്യര്ക്കും പിതാവു.

38. The younger daughter also had a son, whom she named Benammi. He was the ancestor of the present-day Ammonites.
