1. ദാവീദിന്റെ കാലത്തു മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം തുടരെത്തുടരെ ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായി; ദാവീദ് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചപ്പോള് ശൌല് ഗിബെയോന്യരെ കൊല്ലുകകൊണ്ടു അതു അവന് നിമിത്തവും രാക്തപാതകമുള്ള അവന്റെ ഗൃഹം നിമിത്തവും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

1. While David was king there was a time without food for three years. David went to the Lord. The Lord said, 'It is because of Saul and his house of blood, for he put the Gibeonites to death.'

2. രാജാവു ഗിബെയോന്യരെ വിളിച്ചു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു:--ഗിബെയോന്യര് യിസ്രായേല്യരല്ല അമോര്യ്യരില് ശേഷിച്ചവരത്രേ; അവരോടു യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള് സത്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ശൌല് യിസ്രായേല്യര്ക്കും യെഹൂദ്യര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി തനിക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എരിവില് അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചുകളവാന് ശ്രമിച്ചു--

2. So the king called the Gibeonites. (Now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the people who were left of the Amorites. The sons of Israel had made an agreement with them. But Saul had wanted to kill them because he thought so much of the sons of Israel and Judah.)

3. ദാവീദ് ഗിബെയോന്യരോടുഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എന്തു ചെയ്തുതരേണം; നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയുടെ അവകാശത്തെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് എന്തു പ്രതിശാന്തി ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

3. David said to the Gibeonites, 'What should I do for you? How can I pay for the sin, so you may bring good to the land of the Lord?'

4. ഗിബെയോന്യര് അവനോടുശൌലിനോടും അവന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തോടും ഞങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ള കാര്യം പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയുംകൊണ്ടു തീരുന്നതല്ല; യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുത്തനെ കൊല്ലുന്നതും ഞങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളതല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നതു ഞാന് ചെയ്തുതരാം എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

4. The Gibeonites said to him, 'We will take no silver or gold from Saul or his family. And it is not for us to put any man to death in Israel.' David said, 'I will do for you whatever you say.'

5. അവര് രാജാവിനോടുഞങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിക്കയും യിസ്രായേല് ദേശത്തെങ്ങും ഞങ്ങള് ശേഷിക്കാതെ മുടിഞ്ഞുപോകത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഉപായം ചിന്തിക്കയും ചെയ്തവന്റെ മക്കളില് ഏഴുപേരെ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏല്പിച്ചുതരേണം.

5. So they said to the king, 'Saul destroyed us and planned to keep us from staying in any land of Israel.

6. ഞങ്ങള് അവരെ യഹോവയുടെ വൃതനായ ശൌലിന്റെ ഗിബെയയില് യഹോവേക്കു തൂക്കിക്കളയും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന് അവരെ തരാമെന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. Let seven men from his sons be given to us. We will hang them before the Lord at Gibeon on the Lord's mountain.' And the king said, 'I will give them.'

7. എന്നാല് ദാവീദും ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനും തമ്മില് യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് ചെയ്ത സത്യംനിമിത്തം രാജാവു ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്റെ മകന് മെഫീബോശെത്തിനെ ഒഴിച്ചു.

7. But the king kept alive Mephibosheth, the son of Saul's son Jonathan, because David had made a promise to Saul's son Jonathan before the Lord.

8. അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകള് രിസ്പാ ശൌലിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായ അര്മ്മോനിയെയും മെഫീബോശെത്തിനെയും ശൌലിന്റെ മകളായ മീഖള് മെഹോലാത്യന് ബര്സില്ലായിയുടെ മകനായ അദ്രീയേലിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച അഞ്ചു പുത്രന്മാരെയും രാജാവു പിടിച്ചു ഗിബെയോന്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

8. The king took the two sons of Aiah's daughter Rizpah, Armoni and Mephibosheth, whom she had born to Saul. And he took the five sons of Saul's daughter Merab, whom she had born to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.

9. അവര് അവരെ മലയില് യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ തൂക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഏഴുപേരും ഒരുമിച്ചു മരിച്ചു; കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യദിവസങ്ങളായ യവക്കൊയ്ത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തിലായിരുന്നു അവരെ കൊന്നതു.

9. He gave them to the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the mountain before the Lord. The seven of them died together. They were put to death in the first days of gathering time, when the barley was ready to gather.

10. അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകളായ രിസ്പാ ചാകൂശീല എടുത്തു പാറമേല് വിരിച്ചു കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മുതല് ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു അവരുടെ മേല് മഴപെയ്തതുവരെ പകല് ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികളോ രാത്രി കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളോ അവരെ തൊടുവാന് സമ്മതിക്കാതിരുന്നു.

10. Aiah's daughter Rizpah spread cloth made from hair on the rock for herself to lie upon, from the beginning of gathering time until the rain fell from the sky upon the bodies. She would not let the birds of the sky rest on them during the day, or the animals of the field during the night.

11. ശൌലിന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയായി അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകളായ രിസ്പാ ചെയ്തതു ദാവീദ് കേട്ടിട്ടു

11. David was told what Aiah's daughter Rizpah, Saul's woman, had done.

12. ദാവീദ് ചെന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ഗില്ബോവയില്വെച്ചു ശൌലിനെ കൊന്ന നാളില് ബേത്ത്-ശാന് നഗരവീഥിയില് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് തൂക്കിക്കളകയും ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് പൌരന്മാര് അവിടെനിന്നു മോഷ്ടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവരികയും ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ശൌലിന്റെയും അവന്റെ മകന് യോനാഥാന്റെയും അസ്ഥികളെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തു.

12. Then he went and took the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the men of Jabesh-gilead. They had stolen them from the open space in the center of Bethshan. That was where the Philistines had hanged them on the day they killed Saul in Gilboa.

13. അങ്ങനെ അവന് ശൌലിന്റെയും അവന്റെ മകന് യോനാഥാന്റെയും അസ്ഥികളെ അവിടെനിന്നു വരുത്തി; തൂക്കിക്കൊന്നവരുടെ അസ്ഥികളെയും അവര് പെറുക്കിയെടുത്തു.

13. David brought the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan. They gathered the bones of those who had been hanged.

14. ശൌലിന്റെയും അവന്റെ മകന് യോനാഥാന്റെയും അസ്ഥികളെ അവര് ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തു സേലയില് അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ കീശിന്റെ കല്ലറയില് അടക്കംചെയ്തു; രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും അവര് ചെയ്തു. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം ദൈവം ദേശത്തിന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥനയെ കേട്ടരുളി.

14. And they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the grave of Kish his father. They did all that the king told them to do. After that, God heard and answered when they prayed for the land.

15. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്ക്കും യിസ്രായേലിനോടു വീണ്ടും യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായി; ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരുമായി ചെന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പടയേറ്റു; ദാവീദ്, തളര്ന്നുപോയി.

15. The Philistines were at war again with Israel. David went down with his servants and they fought the Philistines. And David became tired.

16. അപ്പോള് മുന്നൂറു ശേക്കെല് തൂക്കമുള്ള താമ്രശൂലം ധരിച്ചവനും പുതിയ വാള് അരെക്കു കെട്ടിയവനുമായി രാഫാമക്കളില് യിശ്ബിബെനോബ് എന്നൊരുവന് ദാവീദിനെ കൊല്ലുവാന് ഭാവിച്ചു.

16. Then Ishbi-benob wanted to kill David. He was one of the sons of the very tall and strong people. His spear weighed as much as 300 pieces of brass, and he had a new sword.

17. എന്നാല് സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ അബീശായി അവന്നു തുണയായ്വന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു; അപ്പോള് ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുനീ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദീപം കെടുക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു മേലാല് ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പറപ്പെടരുതു എന്നു സത്യംചെയ്തു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. But Zeruiah's son Abishai helped David and killed the Philistine. Then David's men promised him, 'You will not go out again with us to battle. You might put out the lamp of Israel.'

18. അതിന്റെശേഷം ഗോബില്വെച്ചു വീണ്ടും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു യുദ്ധംഉണ്ടായി; അപ്പോള് ഹൂശാത്യനായ സിബ്ബെഖായി മല്ലന്മാരുടെ മക്കളില് ഒരുത്തനായ സഫിനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു.

18. After this there was war again with the Philistines at Gob. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was one of the sons of the very tall and strong people.

19. ഗോബില്വെച്ചു പിന്നെയും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായി; അവിടെവെച്ചു ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യാരെ-ഔരെഗീമിന്റെ മകന് എല്ഹാനാന് ഗിത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്തിനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു; അവന്റെ കുന്തത്തണ്ടു നെയ്ത്തുകാരുടെ പടപ്പുതടിപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു.

19. There was war with the Philistines again at Gob. And Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite. Goliath's spear was like the heavy piece of wood used by a clothmaker.

20. പിന്നെയും ഗത്തില് വെച്ചു യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായി; അവിടെ ഒരു ദീര്ഘകായന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ഔരോ കൈകൂ ആറാറുവിരലും ഔരോ കാലിന്നു ആറാറുവിരലും ആകെ ഇരുപത്തുനാലു വിരല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഇവനും രാഫെക്കു ജനിച്ചവനായിരുന്നു.

20. There was war at Gath again. There was a very tall man there who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number. He was one of the sons of the very tall and strong people also.

21. അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ ധിക്കരിച്ചപ്പോള് ദാവീദിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയയുടെ മകന് യോനാഥാന് അവനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

21. When he spoke against Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David's brother, killed him.

22. ഈ നാലു പേരും ഗത്തില് രാഫെക്കു ജനിച്ചവരായിരുന്നു. അവര് ദാവീദിന്റെയും അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരുടെയും കയ്യാല് പട്ടുപോയി.

22. These four were sons of the very tall and strong people in Gath. They were killed by David and his servants.
