1. അനന്തരം അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവു ആഗാഗ്യനായ ഹമ്മെദാഥയുടെ മകന് ഹാമാന്നു കയറ്റവും ഉന്നതപദവിയും കൊടുത്തു അവന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടം തന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെയും ഇരിപ്പിടങ്ങള്ക്കു മേലായി വെച്ചു.

1. Some time later King Xerxes promoted a man named Haman to the position of prime minister. Haman was the son of Hammedatha, a descendant of Agag.

2. രാജാവിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കലെ രാജഭൃത്യന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും ഹാമാനെ കുമ്പിട്ടു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; രാജാവു അവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു അങ്ങനെ കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എങ്കിലും മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി അവനെ കുമ്പിട്ടില്ല, നമസ്ക്കുരിച്ചതുമില്ല.

2. The king ordered all the officials in his service to show their respect for Haman by kneeling and bowing to him. They all did so, except for Mordecai, who refused to do it.

3. അപ്പോള് രാജാവിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കലെ രാജഭൃത്യന്മാര് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയോടുനീ രാജകല്പന ലംഘിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

3. The other officials in the royal service asked him why he was disobeying the king's command;

4. അവര് ഇങ്ങനെ ദിവസംപ്രതി അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവന് അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കാതിരുന്നതിനാല് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ പെരുമാറ്റം നിലനിലക്കുമോ എന്നു കാണേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് അതു ഹാമാനോടു അറിയിച്ചു; താന് യെഹൂദന് എന്നു അവന് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

4. day after day they urged him to give in, but he would not listen to them. 'I am a Jew,' he explained, 'and I cannot bow to Haman.' So they told Haman about this, wondering if he would tolerate Mordecai's conduct.

5. മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി തന്നെ കുമ്പിട്ടു നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു ഹാമാന് കോപംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു.

5. Haman was furious when he realized that Mordecai was not going to kneel and bow to him,

6. എന്നാല് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയെ മാത്രം കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്യുന്നതു അവന്നു പുച്ഛകാര്യമായി തോന്നി; മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ ജാതി ഇന്നതെന്നു അവന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടീട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അഹശ്വേരോശിന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെല്ലാടവും ഉള്ള മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ ജാതിക്കാരായ യെഹൂദന്മാരെയൊക്കെയും നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഹാമാന് തരം അന്വേഷിച്ചു.

6. and when he learned that Mordecai was a Jew, he decided to do more than punish Mordecai alone. He made plans to kill every Jew in the whole Persian Empire.

7. അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിന്റെ പന്ത്രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടില് നീസാന് മാസമായ ഒന്നാം മാസത്തില് അവര് ആദാര് എന്ന പന്ത്രണ്ടാം മാസംവരെയുള്ള ഔരോ ദിവസത്തെയും ഔരോ മാസത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു ഹാമാന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു പൂര് എന്ന ചീട്ടിട്ടു നോക്കി.

7. In the twelfth year of King Xerxes' rule, in the first month, the month of Nisan, Haman ordered the lots to be cast ('purim,' they were called) to find out the right day and month to carry out his plot. The thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, was decided on.

8. പിന്നെ ഹാമാന് അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിനോടുനിന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിലെ സകല സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലുമുള്ള ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില് ഒരു ജാതി ചിന്നിച്ചിതറിക്കിടക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണങ്ങള് മറ്റുള്ള സകലജാതികളുടേതിനോടും വ്യത്യാസപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രമാണങ്ങളെ അനുസരിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ അങ്ങനെ വിടുന്നതു രാജാവിന്നു യോഗ്യമല്ല.

8. So Haman told the king, 'There is a certain race of people scattered all over your empire and found in every province. They observe customs that are not like those of any other people. Moreover, they do not obey the laws of the empire, so it is not in your best interests to tolerate them.

9. രാജാവിന്നു സമ്മതമുണ്ടെങ്കില് അവരെ നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു സന്ദേശം എഴുതി അയക്കേണം; എന്നാല് ഞാന് കാര്യവിചാരകന്മാരുടെ കയ്യില് പതിനായിരം താലന്ത് വെള്ളി രാജാവിന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരത്തിലേക്കു കൊടുത്തയക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. If it please Your Majesty, issue a decree that they are to be put to death. If you do, I guarantee that I will be able to put 375 tons of silver into the royal treasury for the administration of the empire.'

10. അപ്പോള് രാജാവു തന്റെ മോതിരം കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഊരി ആഗാഗ്യനായ ഹമ്മെദാഥയുടെ മകനായി യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ശത്രുവായ ഹാമാന്നു കൊടുത്തു.

10. The king took off his ring, which was used to stamp proclamations and make them official, and gave it to the enemy of the Jewish people, Haman son of Hammedatha, the descendant of Agag.

11. രാജാവു ഹാമാനോടുഞാന് ആ വെള്ളിയെയും ആ ജാതിയെയും നിനക്കു ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. The king told him, 'The people and their money are yours; do as you like with them.'

12. അങ്ങനെ ഒന്നാം മാസം പതിമ്മൂന്നാം തിയ്യതി രാജാവിന്റെ രായസക്കാരെ വിളിച്ചു; ഹാമാന് കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും അവര് രാജപ്രതിനിധികള്ക്കും ഔരോ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലെ ദേശാധിപധികള്ക്കും അതതു ജനത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും അതതു സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലേക്കു അവിടത്തെ അക്ഷരത്തിലും അതതു ജനത്തിന്നും അവരുടെ ഭാഷയിലും എഴുതി; അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിന്റെ നാമത്തില് അതെഴുതി രാജമോതിരംകൊണ്ടു മുദ്ര ഇട്ടു.

12. So on the thirteenth day of the first month Haman called the king's secretaries and dictated a proclamation to be translated into every language and system of writing used in the empire and to be sent to all the rulers, governors, and officials. It was issued in the name of King Xerxes and stamped with his ring.

13. ആദാര്മാസമായ പന്ത്രണ്ടാം മാസം പതിമ്മൂന്നാം തിയ്യതി തന്നേ സകലയെഹൂദന്മാരെയും ആബാലവൃദ്ധം കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും കൂടെ നശിപ്പിച്ചു കൊന്നുമുടിക്കയും അവരുടെ വസ്തുവക കൊള്ളയിടുകയും ചെയ്യേണമെന്നു രാജാവിന്റെ സകലസംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലേക്കും അഞ്ചല്ക്കാര്വശം എഴുത്തു അയച്ചു.

13. Runners took this proclamation to every province of the empire. It contained the instructions that on a single day, the thirteenth day of Adar, all Jews---young and old, women and children---were to be killed. They were to be slaughtered without mercy and their belongings were to be taken.

14. അന്നത്തേക്കു ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിക്കേണമെന്നു സകലജാതികള്ക്കും പരസ്യം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു കൊടുത്ത തീര്പ്പിന്റെ പകര്പ്പു ഔരോ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലും പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കി.

14. The contents of the proclamation were to be made public in every province, so that everyone would be prepared when that day came.

15. അഞ്ചല്ക്കാര് രാജ കല്പന പ്രമാണിച്ചു ക്ഷണത്തില് പുറപ്പെട്ടു പോയി; ശൂശന് രാജധാനിയിലും ആ തീര്പ്പു പരസ്യം ചെയ്തു; രാജാവും ഹാമാനും കുടിപ്പാന് ഇരുന്നു; ശൂശമ്പട്ടണമോ കലങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

15. At the king's command the decree was made public in the capital city of Susa, and runners carried the news to the provinces. The king and Haman sat down and had a drink while the city of Susa was being thrown into confusion.
