1. ഊസ് ദേശത്തു ഇയ്യോബ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു.

1. There was a man named Job who lived in the country of Uz. He was a good, honest man. He respected God and refused to do evil.

2. അവന്നു ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരും മൂന്നു പുത്രിമാരും ജനിച്ചു.

2. Job had seven sons and three daughters.

3. അവന്നു ഏഴായിരം ആടും മൂവായിരം ഒട്ടകവും അഞ്ഞൂറു ഏര് കാളയും അഞ്ഞൂറു പെണ് കഴുതയുമായ മൃഗസമ്പത്തും ഏറ്റവും വളരെ ദാസജനവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് സകലപൂര്വ്വദിഗ്വാസികളിലും മഹാനായിരുന്നു.

3. He owned 7000 sheep, 3000 camels, 1000 oxen, and 500 female donkeys. He had many servants. He was the richest man in the east.

4. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ദിവസത്തില് താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടില് വിരുന്നു കഴിക്കയും തങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷിച്ചു പാനം ചെയ്വാന് തങ്ങളുടെ മൂന്നു സഹോദരിമാരെയും ആളയച്ചു വിളിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു.

4. Job's sons took turns having dinner parties in their homes, and they invited their sisters.

5. എന്നാല് വിരുന്നുനാളുകള് വട്ടംതികയുമ്പോള് ഇയ്യോബ് പക്ഷെ എന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് പാപം ചെയ്തു ദൈവത്തെ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു ത്യജിച്ചുപോയിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ആളയച്ചു അവരെ വരുത്തി ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കയും നന്നാ രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവരുടെ സംഖ്യകൂ ഒത്തവണ്ണം ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളെ കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ ഇയ്യോബ് എല്ലായ്പോഴും ചെയ്തുപോന്നു.

5. The day after each of these parties, Job got up early in the morning, sent for his children, and offered a burnt offering for each of them. He thought, 'Maybe my children were careless and sinned against God at their party.' Job always did this so that his children would be forgiven of their sins.

6. ഒരു ദിവസം ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പാന് ചെന്നു; അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സാത്താനും ചെന്നു.

6. Then the day came for the angels to meet with the Lord. Even Satan was there with them.

7. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുനീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് ഭൂമിയില് ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടു വരുന്നു എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

7. The Lord said to Satan, 'Where have you been?' Satan answered the Lord, 'I have been roaming around the earth, going from place to place.'

8. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഎന്റെ ദാസനായ ഇയ്യോബിന്മേല് നീ ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചുവോ? അവനെപ്പോലെ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ഭൂമിയില് ആരും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

8. Then the Lord said to Satan, 'Have you noticed my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him. He is a good, faithful man. He respects God and refuses to do evil.'

9. അതിന്നു സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുവെറുതെയോ ഇയ്യോബ് ദൈവഭക്തനായിരിക്കുന്നതു?
വെളിപ്പാടു വെളിപാട് 12:10

9. Satan answered, 'But Job has a good reason to respect you.

10. നീ അവന്നും അവന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും ചുറ്റും വേലികെട്ടീട്ടില്ലയോ? നീ അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മൃഗസമ്പത്തു ദേശത്തു പെരുകിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. You always protect him, his family, and everything he has. You have blessed him and made him successful in everything he does. He is so wealthy that his herds and flocks are all over the country.

11. തൃക്കൈ നീട്ടി അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും ഒന്നു തൊടുക; അവന് നിന്നെ മുഖത്തു നോക്കി ത്യജിച്ചുപറയും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

11. But if you were to destroy everything he has, I promise you that he would curse you to your face.'

12. ദൈവം സാത്താനോടുഇതാ, അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മേല് മാത്രം കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ സാത്താന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.

12. The Lord said to Satan, 'All right, do whatever you want with anything that he has, but don't hurt Job himself.' Then Satan left the meeting.

13. ഒരു ദിവസം ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ വീട്ടില് തിന്നുകയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

13. One day Job's sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house.

14. ഒരു ദൂതന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്വന്നുകാളകളെ പൂട്ടുകയും പെണ്കഴുതകള് അരികെ മേഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കയും ആയിരുന്നു;

14. A messenger came to Job and said, 'We were plowing the fields with the oxen and the donkeys were eating grass nearby,

15. പെട്ടെന്നു ശെബായര് വന്നു അവയെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോകയും വേലക്കാരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടിക്കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. when some Sabeans attacked us and took your animals! They killed the other servants. I am the only one who escaped to come and tell you the news!'

16. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ വേറൊരുത്തന് വന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ തീ ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു വീണു കത്തി, ആടുകളും വേലക്കാരും അതിന്നു ഇരയായ്പോയി; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. That messenger was still speaking when another one came in and said, 'A bolt of lightning struck your sheep and servants and burned them up. I am the only one who escaped to come and tell you the news!'

17. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ മറ്റൊരുത്തന് വന്നുപെട്ടെന്നു കല്ദയര് മൂന്നു കൂട്ടമായി വന്നു ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പോകയും വേലക്കാരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടിക്കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. That messenger was still speaking when another one came in and said, 'The Chaldeans sent out three raiding parties that attacked us and took the camels! They killed the other servants. I am the only one who escaped to come and tell you the news!'

18. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് മറ്റൊരുത്തന് വന്നു; നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ വീട്ടില് തിന്നുകയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

18. That messenger was still speaking when another one came in and said, 'Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house.

19. പെട്ടെന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ഒരു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റു വന്നു വീട്ടിന്റെ നാലു മൂലെക്കും അടിച്ചുഅതു യൌവനക്കാരുടെമേല് വീണു; അവര് മരിച്ചുപോയി; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാനൊരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. A strong wind suddenly came in from across the desert and blew the house down. It fell on your sons and daughters, and they are all dead. I am the only one who escaped to come and tell you the news!'

20. അപ്പോള് ഇയ്യോബ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു വസ്ത്രം കീറി തല ചിരെച്ചു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു
മത്തായി 26:65

20. When Job heard this, he got up, tore his clothes, and shaved his head to show his sadness. Then he fell to the ground to bow down before God

21. നഗ്നനായി ഞാന് എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ ഗര്ഭത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു, നഗ്നനായി തന്നേ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകും, യഹോവ തന്നു, യഹോവ എടുത്തു, യഹോവയുടെ നാമം വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെടുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
1 തിമൊഥെയൊസ് 6:7

21. and said, 'When I was born into this world, I was naked and had nothing. When I die and leave this world, I will be naked and have nothing. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Praise the name of the Lord!'

22. ഇതിലൊന്നിലും ഇയ്യോബ് പാപം ചെയ്കയോ ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഭോഷത്വം ആരോപിക്കയോ ചെയ്തില്ല.

22. Even after all this, Job did not sin. He did not accuse God of doing anything wrong.
