1. ഊസ് ദേശത്തു ഇയ്യോബ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു.

1. There was a man in the land of 'Utz whose name was Iyov. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.

2. അവന്നു ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരും മൂന്നു പുത്രിമാരും ജനിച്ചു.

2. Seven sons and three daughters were born to him.

3. അവന്നു ഏഴായിരം ആടും മൂവായിരം ഒട്ടകവും അഞ്ഞൂറു ഏര് കാളയും അഞ്ഞൂറു പെണ് കഴുതയുമായ മൃഗസമ്പത്തും ഏറ്റവും വളരെ ദാസജനവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് സകലപൂര്വ്വദിഗ്വാസികളിലും മഹാനായിരുന്നു.

3. He owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 pairs of oxen and 500 female donkeys, as well as a great number of servants; so that he was the wealthiest man in the east.

4. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ദിവസത്തില് താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടില് വിരുന്നു കഴിക്കയും തങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷിച്ചു പാനം ചെയ്വാന് തങ്ങളുടെ മൂന്നു സഹോദരിമാരെയും ആളയച്ചു വിളിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു.

4. It was the custom of his sons to give banquets, each on his set day in his own house; and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

5. എന്നാല് വിരുന്നുനാളുകള് വട്ടംതികയുമ്പോള് ഇയ്യോബ് പക്ഷെ എന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് പാപം ചെയ്തു ദൈവത്തെ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു ത്യജിച്ചുപോയിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ആളയച്ചു അവരെ വരുത്തി ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കയും നന്നാ രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവരുടെ സംഖ്യകൂ ഒത്തവണ്ണം ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളെ കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ ഇയ്യോബ് എല്ലായ്പോഴും ചെയ്തുപോന്നു.

5. After a cycle of banquets, Iyov would send for them to come and be consecrated; then he would get up early in the morning and offer burnt offerings for each of them, because Iyov said, 'My sons might have sinned and blasphemed God in their thoughts.' This is what Iyov did every time.

6. ഒരു ദിവസം ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പാന് ചെന്നു; അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സാത്താനും ചെന്നു.

6. It happened one day that the sons of God came to serve ADONAI, and among them came the Adversary .

7. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുനീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് ഭൂമിയില് ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടു വരുന്നു എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

7. ADONAI asked the Adversary, 'Where are you coming from?' The Adversary answered ADONAI, 'From roaming through the earth, wandering here and there.'

8. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഎന്റെ ദാസനായ ഇയ്യോബിന്മേല് നീ ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചുവോ? അവനെപ്പോലെ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ഭൂമിയില് ആരും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

8. ADONAI asked the Adversary, 'Did you notice my servant Iyov, that there's no one like him on earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and shuns evil?'

9. അതിന്നു സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുവെറുതെയോ ഇയ്യോബ് ദൈവഭക്തനായിരിക്കുന്നതു?

9. The Adversary answered ADONAI, 'Is it for nothing that Iyov fears God?

10. നീ അവന്നും അവന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും ചുറ്റും വേലികെട്ടീട്ടില്ലയോ? നീ അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മൃഗസമ്പത്തു ദേശത്തു പെരുകിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. You've put a protective hedge around him, his house and everything he has. You've prospered his work, and his livestock are spread out all over the land.

11. തൃക്കൈ നീട്ടി അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും ഒന്നു തൊടുക; അവന് നിന്നെ മുഖത്തു നോക്കി ത്യജിച്ചുപറയും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

11. But if you reach out your hand and touch whatever he has, without doubt he'll curse you to your face!'

12. ദൈവം സാത്താനോടുഇതാ, അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മേല് മാത്രം കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ സാത്താന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.

12. ADONAI said to the Adversary, 'Here! Everything he has is in your hands, except that you are not to lay a finger on his person.' Then the Adversary went out from the presence of ADONAI.

13. ഒരു ദിവസം ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ വീട്ടില് തിന്നുകയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

13. One day when Iyov's sons and daughters were eating and drinking in their oldest brother's house,

14. ഒരു ദൂതന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്വന്നുകാളകളെ പൂട്ടുകയും പെണ്കഴുതകള് അരികെ മേഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കയും ആയിരുന്നു;

14. a messenger came to him and said, 'The oxen were plowing, with the donkeys grazing near them,

15. പെട്ടെന്നു ശെബായര് വന്നു അവയെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോകയും വേലക്കാരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടിക്കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. when a raiding party from Sh'va came and carried them off; they put the servants to the sword too, and I'm the only one who escaped to tell you.'

16. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ വേറൊരുത്തന് വന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ തീ ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു വീണു കത്തി, ആടുകളും വേലക്കാരും അതിന്നു ഇരയായ്പോയി; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. While he was still speaking, another one came and said, 'Fire from God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants; it completely destroyed them, and I'm the only one who escaped to tell you.'

17. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ മറ്റൊരുത്തന് വന്നുപെട്ടെന്നു കല്ദയര് മൂന്നു കൂട്ടമായി വന്നു ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പോകയും വേലക്കാരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടിക്കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. While he was still speaking, another one came and said, 'The Kasdim, three bands of them, fell on the camels and carried them off; they put the servants to the sword too, and I'm the only one who escaped to tell you.'

18. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് മറ്റൊരുത്തന് വന്നു; നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ വീട്ടില് തിന്നുകയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

18. While he was still speaking, another one came and said, 'Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,

19. പെട്ടെന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ഒരു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റു വന്നു വീട്ടിന്റെ നാലു മൂലെക്കും അടിച്ചുഅതു യൌവനക്കാരുടെമേല് വീണു; അവര് മരിച്ചുപോയി; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാനൊരുത്തന് മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. when suddenly a strong wind blew in from over the desert. It struck the four corners of the house, so that it fell on the young people; they are dead, and I'm the only one who escaped to tell you.'

20. അപ്പോള് ഇയ്യോബ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു വസ്ത്രം കീറി തല ചിരെച്ചു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു
മത്തായി 26:65

20. Iyov got up, tore his coat, shaved his head, fell down on the ground and worshipped;

21. നഗ്നനായി ഞാന് എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ ഗര്ഭത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു, നഗ്നനായി തന്നേ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകും, യഹോവ തന്നു, യഹോവ എടുത്തു, യഹോവയുടെ നാമം വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെടുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
1 തിമൊഥെയൊസ് 6:7

21. he said, 'Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will return there. ADONAI gave; ADONAI took; blessed be the name of ADONAI.'

22. ഇതിലൊന്നിലും ഇയ്യോബ് പാപം ചെയ്കയോ ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഭോഷത്വം ആരോപിക്കയോ ചെയ്തില്ല.

22. In all this Iyov neither committed a sin nor put blame on God.
