1. അനവധിസമ്പത്തിലും സല്കീര്ത്തിയും വെള്ളിയിലും പൊന്നിലും കൃപയും നല്ലതു.

1. Rather than wealth, choose a good reputation, esteem over silver and gold.

2. ധനവാനും ദരിദ്രനും തമ്മില് കാണുന്നു; അവരെ ഒക്കെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയവന് യഹോവ തന്നേ.

2. Rich and poor have this in common- ADONAI made them both.

3. വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.

3. The clever see trouble coming and hide; the simple go on and pay the penalty.

4. താഴ്മെക്കും യഹോവഭക്തിക്കും ഉള്ള പ്രതിഫലം ധനവും മാനവും ജീവനും ആകുന്നു.

4. The reward for humility is fear of ADONAI, along with wealth, honor and life.

5. വക്രന്റെ വഴിയില് മുള്ളും കുടുക്കും ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ പ്രാണനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് അവയോടു അകന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ.

5. Thorns and snares beset the way of the stubborn; he who values his life keeps his distance from them.

6. ബാലന് നടക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വഴിയില് അവനെ അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്ക; അവന് വൃദ്ധനായാലും അതു വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

6. Train a child in the way he [[should]] go; and, even when old, he will not swerve from it.

7. ധനവാന് ദരിദ്രന്മാരെ ഭരിക്കുന്നു; കടം മേടിക്കുന്നവന് കടം കൊടുക്കുന്നവന്നു ദാസന് .

7. The rich rule the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.

8. നീതികേടു വിതെക്കുന്നവന് ആപത്തു കൊയ്യും; അവന്റെ കോപത്തിന്റെ വടി ഇല്ലാതെയാകും.

8. He who sows injustice reaps trouble, and the rod of his angry outburst will fail.

9. ദയാകടാക്ഷമുള്ളവന് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും; അവന് തന്റെ ആഹാരത്തില്നിന്നു അഗതിക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

9. He who is generous is blessed, because he shares his food with the poor.

10. പരിഹാസിയെ നീക്കിക്കളക; അപ്പോള് പിണക്കം പോയ്ക്കൊള്ളും; കലഹവും നിന്ദയും നിന്നുപോകും.

10. Throw the scoffer out, and quarreling goes too; strife and insults cease.

11. ഹൃദയശുദ്ധി ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവന്നു അധരലാവണ്യം ഉണ്ടു; രാജാവു അവന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന് .

11. He who loves the pure-hearted and is gracious in speech will have the king as his friend.

12. യഹോവയുടെ കണ്ണു പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവനെ കാക്കുന്നു; ദ്രോഹികളുടെ വാക്കോ അവന് മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

12. The eyes of ADONAI protect [[the man with]] knowledge, but he overturns the plans of a traitor.

13. വെളിയില് സിംഹം ഉണ്ടു, വീഥിയില് എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വരും എന്നു മടിയന് പറയുന്നു.

13. A lazy man says, 'There's a lion outside! I'll be killed if I go out in the street!'

14. പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ വായ് ആഴമുള്ള കുഴി ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയാല് ത്യജിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് അതില് വീഴും.

14. The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit; the man with whom ADONAI is angry falls into it.

15. ബാലന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോടു ഭോഷത്വം പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ശിക്ഷെക്കുള്ള വടി അതിനെ അവനില് നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.

15. Doing wrong is firmly tied to the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away from him.

16. ആദായം ഉണ്ടാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എളിയവനെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവനും ധനവാന്നു കൊടുക്കുന്നവനും മുട്ടുള്ളവനായ്തീരും.

16. Both oppressing the poor to enrich oneself and giving to the rich yield only loss.

17. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ ചെവിചായിച്ചു കേള്ക്കുക; എന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്നു മനസ്സുവെക്കുക.

17. Pay attention, and listen to the words of the wise; apply your heart to my knowledge;

18. അവയെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങളില് അവ ഒക്കെയും ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും മനോഹരം.

18. for it is pleasant to keep them deep within you; have all of them ready on your lips.

19. നിന്റെ ആശ്രയം യഹോവയില് ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് ഇന്നു നിന്നോടു, നിന്നോടു തന്നേ, ഉപദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. I want your trust to be in ADONAI; this is why I'm instructing you about them today.

20. നിന്നെ അയച്ചവര്ക്കും നീ നേരുള്ള മറുപടി കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിനക്കു നേരുള്ള മറുപടിയുടെ നിശ്ചയം അറിയിച്ചുതരുവാന്

20. I have written you worthwhile things full of good counsel and knowledge,

21. ആലോചനയും പരിജ്ഞാനവും അടങ്ങിയ സാരസംഗതികളെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു എഴുതീട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.

21. so you will know that these sayings are certainly true and bring back true sayings to him who sent you.

22. എളിയവനോടു അവന് എളിയവനാകകൊണ്ടു കവര്ച്ച ചെയ്യരുതു; അരിഷ്ടനെ പടിവാതില്ക്കല്വെച്ചു പീഡിപ്പിക്കയും അരുതു.

22. Don't exploit the helpless, because they are helpless, and don't crush the poor in court,

23. യഹോവ അവരുടെ വ്യവഹാരം നടത്തും; അവരെ കൊള്ളയിട്ടവരുടെ ജീവനെ കൊള്ളയിടും.

23. for ADONAI will plead their case for them and withhold life from those who defraud them.

24. കോപശീലനോടു സഖിത്വമരുതു; ക്രോധമുള്ള മനുഷ്യനോടുകൂടെ നടക്കയും അരുതു.

24. Don't associate with an angry man; make no hot-tempered man your companion.

25. നീ അവന്റെ വഴികളെ പഠിപ്പാനും നിന്റെ പ്രാണന് കണിയില് അകപ്പെടുവാനും സംഗതി വരരുതു.

25. If you do, you may learn his ways and find yourself caught in a trap.

26. നീ കയ്യടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും കടത്തിന്നു ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും ആയ്പോകരുതു.

26. Don't be one of those who give pledges, guaranteeing loans made to others;

27. വീട്ടുവാന് നിനക്കു വകയില്ലാതെ വന്നിട്ടു നിന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു നിന്റെ മെത്ത എടുത്തുകളവാന് ഇടവരുത്തുന്നതു എന്തിനു?

27. for if you don't have the wherewithal to pay, they will take your bed away from underneath you.

28. നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പണ്ടത്തെ അതിര് നീ മാറ്റരുതു.

28. Don't move the ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors.

29. പ്രവൃത്തിയില് സാമര്ത്ഥ്യമുള്ള പുരുഷനെ നീ കാണുന്നുവോ? അവന് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില് നിലക്കും; നീചന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില് അവന് നില്ക്കയില്ല.

29. Do you see a man skilled at his work? He will serve kings, not obscure people.
