1. നല്ല പേര് സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തെക്കാളും മരണദിവസം ജനനദിവസത്തെക്കാളും ഉത്തമം.

1. Surely there be many things that increase vanitie: and what auaileth it man?

2. വിരുന്നുവീട്ടില് പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാള് വിലാപഭവനത്തില് പോകുന്നതു നല്ലതു; അതല്ലോ സകലമനുഷ്യരുടെയും അവസാനം; ജീവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന് അതു ഹൃദയത്തില് കരുതിക്കൊള്ളും.

2. For who knoweth what is good for man in the life and in the nomber of the dayes of the life of his vanitie, seeing he maketh them as a shadowe? For who can shewe vnto man what shall be after him vnder the sunne?

3. ചിരിയെക്കാള് വ്യസനം നല്ലതു മുഖം വാടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഹൃദയം സുഖമായിരിക്കും.

3. A good name is better then a good oyntment, and the day of death, then the day that one is borne.

4. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ ഹൃദയം വിലാപഭവനത്തില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയമോ സന്തോഷഭവനത്തിലത്രേ.

4. It is better to goe to the house of mourning, then to goe to the house of feasting, because this is the ende of all men: and the liuing shall lay it to his heart.

5. മൂഢന്റെ ഗീതം കേള്ക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന കേള്ക്കുന്നതു മനുഷ്യന്നു നല്ലതു.

5. Anger is better then laughter: for by a sad looke the heart is made better.

6. മൂഢന്റെ ചിരി കലത്തിന്റെ കീഴെ കത്തുന്ന മുള്ളിന്റെ പൊടുപൊടുപ്പുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

6. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning: but the heart of fooles is in the house of mirth.

7. കോഴ ജ്ഞാനിയെ പൊട്ടനാക്കുന്നു; കൈക്കൂലി ഹൃദയത്തെ കെടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

7. Better it is to heare ye rebuke of a wise man, then that a man should heare the song of fooles.

8. ഒരു കാര്യത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തെക്കാള് അതിന്റെ അവസാനം നല്ലതു; ഗര്വ്വമാനസനെക്കാള് ക്ഷമാമാനസന് ശ്രേഷ്ഠന് .

8. For like ye noyse of the thornes vnder the pot, so is the laughter of the foole: this also is vanitie.

9. നിന്റെ മനസ്സില് അത്ര വേഗം നീരസം ഉണ്ടാകരുതു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മാര്വ്വില് അല്ലോ നീരസം വസിക്കുന്നതു.

9. Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad: and the rewarde destroyeth the heart.

10. പണ്ടത്തേ കാലം ഇപ്പോഴത്തേതിനെക്കാള് നന്നായിരുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണം എന്തു എന്നു നീ ചോദിക്കരുതു; നീ അങ്ങനെ ചോദിക്കുന്നതു ജ്ഞാനമല്ലല്ലോ.

10. The ende of a thing is better then the beginning thereof, and the pacient in spirit is better then the proude in spirit.

11. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു അവകാശംപോലെ നല്ലതു; സകലഭൂവാസികള്ക്കും അതു ബഹുവിശേഷം.

11. Be not thou of an hastie spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosome of fooles.

12. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു ശരണം, ദ്രവ്യവും ഒരു ശരണം; ജ്ഞാനമോ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജീവനെ പാലിക്കുന്നു; ഇതത്രേ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വിശേഷത.

12. Say not thou, Why is it that the former dayes were better then these? for thou doest not enquire wisely of this thing.

13. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ നോക്കുക; അവന് വളെച്ചതിനെ നേരെയാക്കുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

13. Wisedome is good with an inheritance, and excellent to them that see the sunne.

14. സുഖകാലത്തു സുഖമായിരിക്ക; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തോ ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊള്ക; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ശേഷം വരുവാനുള്ളതൊന്നും ആരാഞ്ഞറിയാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം രണ്ടിനെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. For man shall rest in the shadowe of wisedome, and in the shadowe of siluer: but the excellencie of the knowledge of wisedome giueth life to the possessers thereof.

15. ഞാന് എന്റെ മായാകാലത്തു ഇതൊക്കെയും കണ്ടുതന്റെ നീതിയില് നശിച്ചുപോകുന്ന നീതിമാന് ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ ദുഷ്ടതയില് ദിര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കുന്ന ദുഷ്ടനും ഉണ്ടു.

15. Beholde the worke of God: for who can make straight that which he hath made crooked?

16. അതിനീതിമാനായിരിക്കരുതു; അതിജ്ഞാനിയായിരിക്കയും അരുതു; നിന്നെ നീ എന്തിന്നു നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു?

16. In the day of wealth be of good comfort, and in the day of affliction consider: God also hath made this contrary to that, to the intent that man shoulde finde nothing after him.

17. അതിദുഷ്ടനായിരിക്കരുതു; മൂഢനായിരിക്കയുമരുതു; കാലത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ നീ എന്തിന്നു മരിക്കുന്നു?

17. I haue seene all things in the dayes of my vanitie: there is a iust man that perisheth in his iustice, and there is a wicked man that continueth long in his malice.

18. നീ ഇതു പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് കൊള്ളാം; അതിങ്കല്നിന്നു നിന്റെ കൈ വലിച്ചുകളയരുതു; ദൈവഭക്തന് ഇവ എല്ലാറ്റില്നിന്നും ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോരും.

18. Be not thou iust ouermuch, neither make thy selfe ouerwise: wherefore shouldest thou be desolate?

19. ഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് പത്തു ബലശാലികള് ഉള്ളതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനം ജ്ഞാനിക്കു അധികം ബലം.

19. Be not thou wicked ouermuch, neither be thou foolish: wherefore shouldest thou perish not in thy time?

20. പാപം ചെയ്യാതെ നന്മ മാത്രം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നീതിമാനും ഭൂമിയില് ഇല്ല.
റോമർ 3:10

20. It is good that thou lay hold on this: but yet withdrawe not thine hand from that: for he that feareth God, shall come forth of them all.

21. പറഞ്ഞുകേള്ക്കുന്ന സകലവാക്കിന്നും നീ ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ ദാസന് നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നതു നീ കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ.

21. Wisedome shall strengthen the wise man more then ten mightie princes that are in ye citie.

22. നീയും പല പ്രാവശ്യ്വം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ശപിച്ചപ്രകാരം നിനക്കു മനോബോധമുണ്ടല്ലോ.

22. Surely there is no man iust in the earth, that doeth good and sinneth not.

23. ഇതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി; ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിക്കുമെന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാല് അതു എനിക്കു ദൂരമായിരുന്നു.

23. Giue not thine heart also to all ye wordes that men speake, lest thou doe heare thy seruant cursing thee.

24. ഉള്ളതു ദൂരവും അത്യഗാധവും ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കണ്ടെത്തുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

24. For often times also thine heart knoweth that thou likewise hast cursed others.

25. ഞാന് തിരിഞ്ഞു, അറിവാനും പരിശോധിപ്പാനും ജ്ഞാനവും യുക്തിയും അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ദുഷ്ടത ഭോഷത്വമെന്നും മൂഢത ഭ്രാന്തു എന്നും ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

25. All this haue I prooued by wisedome: I thought I will be wise, but it went farre from me.

26. മരണത്തെക്കാള് കൈപ്പായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാന് കണ്ടുഹൃദയത്തില് കണികളും വലകളും കയ്യില് പാശങ്ങളും ഉള്ള സ്ത്രീയെ തന്നേ; ദൈവത്തിന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ളവന് അവളെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു രക്ഷപ്പെടും; പാപിയോ അവളാല് പിടിപെടും.

26. It is farre off, what may it be? and it is a profound deepenesse, who can finde it?

27. കാര്യം അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒന്നോടൊന്നു ചേര്ത്തു പരിശോധിച്ചുനോക്കീട്ടു ഞാന് ഇതാകുന്നു കണ്ടതു എന്നു സഭാ പ്രസംഗി പറയുന്നു

27. I haue compassed about, both I and mine heart to knowe and to enquire and to search wisedome, and reason, and to knowe the wickednesse of follie, and the foolishnesse of madnesse,

29. ഒരു കാര്യം മാത്രം ഞാന് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുദൈവം മനുഷ്യനെ നേരുള്ളവനായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു; അവരോ അനേകം സൂത്രങ്ങളെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

29. Beholde, sayth the Preacher, this haue I found, seeking one by one to finde the count:
