1. നല്ല പേര് സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തെക്കാളും മരണദിവസം ജനനദിവസത്തെക്കാളും ഉത്തമം.

1. A GOOD name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

2. വിരുന്നുവീട്ടില് പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാള് വിലാപഭവനത്തില് പോകുന്നതു നല്ലതു; അതല്ലോ സകലമനുഷ്യരുടെയും അവസാനം; ജീവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന് അതു ഹൃദയത്തില് കരുതിക്കൊള്ളും.

2. It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

3. ചിരിയെക്കാള് വ്യസനം നല്ലതു മുഖം വാടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഹൃദയം സുഖമായിരിക്കും.

3. Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made glad.

4. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ ഹൃദയം വിലാപഭവനത്തില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയമോ സന്തോഷഭവനത്തിലത്രേ.

4. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

5. മൂഢന്റെ ഗീതം കേള്ക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന കേള്ക്കുന്നതു മനുഷ്യന്നു നല്ലതു.

5. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

6. മൂഢന്റെ ചിരി കലത്തിന്റെ കീഴെ കത്തുന്ന മുള്ളിന്റെ പൊടുപൊടുപ്പുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

6. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

7. കോഴ ജ്ഞാനിയെ പൊട്ടനാക്കുന്നു; കൈക്കൂലി ഹൃദയത്തെ കെടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

7. Surely extortion maketh a wise man foolish; and a gift destroyeth the understanding.

8. ഒരു കാര്യത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തെക്കാള് അതിന്റെ അവസാനം നല്ലതു; ഗര്വ്വമാനസനെക്കാള് ക്ഷമാമാനസന് ശ്രേഷ്ഠന് .

8. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

9. നിന്റെ മനസ്സില് അത്ര വേഗം നീരസം ഉണ്ടാകരുതു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മാര്വ്വില് അല്ലോ നീരസം വസിക്കുന്നതു.

9. Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

10. പണ്ടത്തേ കാലം ഇപ്പോഴത്തേതിനെക്കാള് നന്നായിരുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണം എന്തു എന്നു നീ ചോദിക്കരുതു; നീ അങ്ങനെ ചോദിക്കുന്നതു ജ്ഞാനമല്ലല്ലോ.

10. Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.

11. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു അവകാശംപോലെ നല്ലതു; സകലഭൂവാസികള്ക്കും അതു ബഹുവിശേഷം.

11. Wisdom is as good as an inheritance: yea, more excellent is it for them that see the sun.

12. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു ശരണം, ദ്രവ്യവും ഒരു ശരണം; ജ്ഞാനമോ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജീവനെ പാലിക്കുന്നു; ഇതത്രേ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വിശേഷത.

12. For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it.

13. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ നോക്കുക; അവന് വളെച്ചതിനെ നേരെയാക്കുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

13. Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?

14. സുഖകാലത്തു സുഖമായിരിക്ക; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തോ ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊള്ക; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ശേഷം വരുവാനുള്ളതൊന്നും ആരാഞ്ഞറിയാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം രണ്ടിനെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God hath even made the one side by side with the other, to the end that man should not find out any thing that shall be after him.

15. ഞാന് എന്റെ മായാകാലത്തു ഇതൊക്കെയും കണ്ടുതന്റെ നീതിയില് നശിച്ചുപോകുന്ന നീതിമാന് ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ ദുഷ്ടതയില് ദിര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കുന്ന ദുഷ്ടനും ഉണ്ടു.

15. All this have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a righteous man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his evil�doing.

16. അതിനീതിമാനായിരിക്കരുതു; അതിജ്ഞാനിയായിരിക്കയും അരുതു; നിന്നെ നീ എന്തിന്നു നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു?

16. Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?

17. അതിദുഷ്ടനായിരിക്കരുതു; മൂഢനായിരിക്കയുമരുതു; കാലത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ നീ എന്തിന്നു മരിക്കുന്നു?

17. Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

18. നീ ഇതു പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് കൊള്ളാം; അതിങ്കല്നിന്നു നിന്റെ കൈ വലിച്ചുകളയരുതു; ദൈവഭക്തന് ഇവ എല്ലാറ്റില്നിന്നും ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോരും.

18. It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from that withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.

19. ഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് പത്തു ബലശാലികള് ഉള്ളതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനം ജ്ഞാനിക്കു അധികം ബലം.

19. Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers which are in a city.

20. പാപം ചെയ്യാതെ നന്മ മാത്രം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നീതിമാനും ഭൂമിയില് ഇല്ല.
റോമർ 3:10

20. Surely there is not a righteous man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

21. പറഞ്ഞുകേള്ക്കുന്ന സകലവാക്കിന്നും നീ ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ ദാസന് നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നതു നീ കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ.

21. Also take not heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:

22. നീയും പല പ്രാവശ്യ്വം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ശപിച്ചപ്രകാരം നിനക്കു മനോബോധമുണ്ടല്ലോ.

22. for oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

23. ഇതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി; ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിക്കുമെന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാല് അതു എനിക്കു ദൂരമായിരുന്നു.

23. All this have I proved in wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.

24. ഉള്ളതു ദൂരവും അത്യഗാധവും ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കണ്ടെത്തുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

24. That which is is far off, and exceeding deep; who can find it out?

25. ഞാന് തിരിഞ്ഞു, അറിവാനും പരിശോധിപ്പാനും ജ്ഞാനവും യുക്തിയും അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ദുഷ്ടത ഭോഷത്വമെന്നും മൂഢത ഭ്രാന്തു എന്നും ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

25. I turned about, and my heart was set to know and to search out, and to seek wisdom and the reason of things, and to know that wickedness is folly, and that foolishness is madness:

26. മരണത്തെക്കാള് കൈപ്പായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാന് കണ്ടുഹൃദയത്തില് കണികളും വലകളും കയ്യില് പാശങ്ങളും ഉള്ള സ്ത്രീയെ തന്നേ; ദൈവത്തിന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ളവന് അവളെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു രക്ഷപ്പെടും; പാപിയോ അവളാല് പിടിപെടും.

26. And I find a thing more bitter than death, even the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

27. കാര്യം അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒന്നോടൊന്നു ചേര്ത്തു പരിശോധിച്ചുനോക്കീട്ടു ഞാന് ഇതാകുന്നു കണ്ടതു എന്നു സഭാ പ്രസംഗി പറയുന്നു

27. Behold, this have I found, saith the Preacher; laying one thing to another, to find out the account:

29. ഒരു കാര്യം മാത്രം ഞാന് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുദൈവം മനുഷ്യനെ നേരുള്ളവനായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു; അവരോ അനേകം സൂത്രങ്ങളെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

29. Behold, this only have I found, that God made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
