1. നല്ല പേര് സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തെക്കാളും മരണദിവസം ജനനദിവസത്തെക്കാളും ഉത്തമം.

1. A good name is more worth than a precious ointment, and the day of death is better than the day of birth.

2. വിരുന്നുവീട്ടില് പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാള് വിലാപഭവനത്തില് പോകുന്നതു നല്ലതു; അതല്ലോ സകലമനുഷ്യരുടെയും അവസാനം; ജീവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന് അതു ഹൃദയത്തില് കരുതിക്കൊള്ളും.

2. It is better to go into an house of mourning, than into a banquet(bancket) house. For there is the end of all men, and he that is living, taketh it to heart.

3. ചിരിയെക്കാള് വ്യസനം നല്ലതു മുഖം വാടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഹൃദയം സുഖമായിരിക്കും.

3. It is better to be sorry than to laugh, for when the countenance is heavy, the heart is joyful.

4. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ ഹൃദയം വിലാപഭവനത്തില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയമോ സന്തോഷഭവനത്തിലത്രേ.

4. The heart of the wise is in the mourning house, but the heart of the foolish is in the house of mirth.

5. മൂഢന്റെ ഗീതം കേള്ക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന കേള്ക്കുന്നതു മനുഷ്യന്നു നല്ലതു.

5. It is better to give ear to the chastening of a wise man, than to hear the song of fools.

6. മൂഢന്റെ ചിരി കലത്തിന്റെ കീഴെ കത്തുന്ന മുള്ളിന്റെ പൊടുപൊടുപ്പുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

6. For the laughting of fools is like the crackling of thorns under a pot. And that is but a vain thing.

7. കോഴ ജ്ഞാനിയെ പൊട്ടനാക്കുന്നു; കൈക്കൂലി ഹൃദയത്തെ കെടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

7. Who so doeth wrong, maketh a wise man to go out of his wit, and destroyeth a gentle heart.

8. ഒരു കാര്യത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തെക്കാള് അതിന്റെ അവസാനം നല്ലതു; ഗര്വ്വമാനസനെക്കാള് ക്ഷമാമാനസന് ശ്രേഷ്ഠന് .

8. The end of a thing is better than the beginning. The patient of spirit is better than the high minded.

9. നിന്റെ മനസ്സില് അത്ര വേഗം നീരസം ഉണ്ടാകരുതു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മാര്വ്വില് അല്ലോ നീരസം വസിക്കുന്നതു.

9. Be not hastily angry in thy mind, for wrath resteth in the bosom of a fool.

10. പണ്ടത്തേ കാലം ഇപ്പോഴത്തേതിനെക്കാള് നന്നായിരുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണം എന്തു എന്നു നീ ചോദിക്കരുതു; നീ അങ്ങനെ ചോദിക്കുന്നതു ജ്ഞാനമല്ലല്ലോ.

10. Say not thou: What is the cause that the days of the old time were better, than they that be now? For that were no wise question.

11. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു അവകാശംപോലെ നല്ലതു; സകലഭൂവാസികള്ക്കും അതു ബഹുവിശേഷം.

11. Wisdom is better than riches, yea much more worth than the eyesight.

12. ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു ശരണം, ദ്രവ്യവും ഒരു ശരണം; ജ്ഞാനമോ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജീവനെ പാലിക്കുന്നു; ഇതത്രേ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വിശേഷത.

12. For wisdom defendeth as well as money, and the excellent knowledge and wisdom giveth life to him that have it in possession.

13. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ നോക്കുക; അവന് വളെച്ചതിനെ നേരെയാക്കുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

13. Consider the work of God, how that no man can make the thing straight, which he maketh crooked.

14. സുഖകാലത്തു സുഖമായിരിക്ക; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തോ ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊള്ക; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ശേഷം വരുവാനുള്ളതൊന്നും ആരാഞ്ഞറിയാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം രണ്ടിനെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. Use well the time of prosperity and remember the time of misfortune: For God maketh one by the other, so that a man can find nothing else.

15. ഞാന് എന്റെ മായാകാലത്തു ഇതൊക്കെയും കണ്ടുതന്റെ നീതിയില് നശിച്ചുപോകുന്ന നീതിമാന് ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ ദുഷ്ടതയില് ദിര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കുന്ന ദുഷ്ടനും ഉണ്ടു.

15. These two things also have I considered in the time of vanity: that the just man perisheth for his righteousness' sake, and the ungodly liveth in his wickedness.

16. അതിനീതിമാനായിരിക്കരുതു; അതിജ്ഞാനിയായിരിക്കയും അരുതു; നിന്നെ നീ എന്തിന്നു നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു?

16. Therefore be thou neither too righteous nor over wise, that thou perish not:

17. അതിദുഷ്ടനായിരിക്കരുതു; മൂഢനായിരിക്കയുമരുതു; കാലത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ നീ എന്തിന്നു മരിക്കുന്നു?

17. be neither too unrighteous also nor too foolish, lest thou die before thy time.

18. നീ ഇതു പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് കൊള്ളാം; അതിങ്കല്നിന്നു നിന്റെ കൈ വലിച്ചുകളയരുതു; ദൈവഭക്തന് ഇവ എല്ലാറ്റില്നിന്നും ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോരും.

18. It is good for thee to take hold of this, and not to let that go out of thy hand. For he that feareth God shall escape them all.

19. ഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് പത്തു ബലശാലികള് ഉള്ളതിനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനം ജ്ഞാനിക്കു അധികം ബലം.

19. Wisdom giveth more courage unto the wise, than ten mighty men of the city.

20. പാപം ചെയ്യാതെ നന്മ മാത്രം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നീതിമാനും ഭൂമിയില് ഇല്ല.
റോമർ 3:10

20. For there is not one just upon earth, that doth good, and sinneth not.

21. പറഞ്ഞുകേള്ക്കുന്ന സകലവാക്കിന്നും നീ ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ ദാസന് നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നതു നീ കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ.

21. Take not heed unto every word that is spoken, lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:

22. നീയും പല പ്രാവശ്യ്വം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ശപിച്ചപ്രകാരം നിനക്കു മനോബോധമുണ്ടല്ലോ.

22. For thine own heart knoweth, that thou thyself also hast oft times spoken evil by other men.

23. ഇതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി; ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിക്കുമെന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാല് അതു എനിക്കു ദൂരമായിരുന്നു.

23. All these things have I proved because of wisdom: For I thought to be wise, but she went farther from me than she was before,

24. ഉള്ളതു ദൂരവും അത്യഗാധവും ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കണ്ടെത്തുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

24. yea and so deep that I might not reach unto her.

25. ഞാന് തിരിഞ്ഞു, അറിവാനും പരിശോധിപ്പാനും ജ്ഞാനവും യുക്തിയും അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ദുഷ്ടത ഭോഷത്വമെന്നും മൂഢത ഭ്രാന്തു എന്നും ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

25. I applied my mind also to knowledge, and to seek out science, wisdom and understanding: to know the foolishness of the ungodly, and the error of doting fools.

26. മരണത്തെക്കാള് കൈപ്പായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാന് കണ്ടുഹൃദയത്തില് കണികളും വലകളും കയ്യില് പാശങ്ങളും ഉള്ള സ്ത്രീയെ തന്നേ; ദൈവത്തിന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ളവന് അവളെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു രക്ഷപ്പെടും; പാപിയോ അവളാല് പിടിപെടും.

26. And I found, that a woman is bitterer than death: for she is a very angle, her heart is a net, and her hands are chains. Who so pleaseth God shall escape from her, but the sinner will be taken with her.

27. കാര്യം അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒന്നോടൊന്നു ചേര്ത്തു പരിശോധിച്ചുനോക്കീട്ടു ഞാന് ഇതാകുന്നു കണ്ടതു എന്നു സഭാ പ്രസംഗി പറയുന്നു

27. Behold (sayeth the preacher) this have I diligently searched out and proved, that I might come by knowledge: which as yet I seek, and find it not.

29. ഒരു കാര്യം മാത്രം ഞാന് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുദൈവം മനുഷ്യനെ നേരുള്ളവനായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു; അവരോ അനേകം സൂത്രങ്ങളെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

29. Lo, this onely have I found, that God made man just and right, but they seek divers sotylties,(subtleties or sodalities)
