1. A message came to the prophet Zechariah from the Lord. It was the eighth month of the second year that Darius was king of Persia. Zechariah was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Iddo. Here is what Zechariah said.

2. യഹോവ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു അത്യന്തം കോപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. The Lord who rules over all was very angry with our people years ago.

3. ആകയാല് നീ അവരോടു പറയേണ്ടതുസൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഎങ്കലേക്കു തിരിവിന് എന്നു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു; എന്നാല് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കും തിരിയും എന്നു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

3. And now he says to us, 'Return to me. Then I will return to you,' announces the Lord.

4. 'Do not be like your people years ago. The earlier prophets gave them my message. I said, 'Stop doing what is evil. Turn away from your sinful practices.' But they would not listen to me. They would not pay any attention,' announces the Lord.

5. 'Where are those people now? And what about my prophets? Do they live forever?

6. I commanded my servants the prophets what to say. I told them what I planned to do. But your people refused to obey me. So I had to punish them. 'Then they had a change of heart. They said, 'The Lord who rules over all has punished us because of how we have lived. He was fair and right to do that. He has done to us just what he decided to do.' '

7. During the second year that Darius was king, a message came to me from the Lord. It was the 24th day of the 11th month. That's the month of Shebat.

8. I had a vision at night. I saw a man riding a red horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in a valley. Behind him were red, brown and white horses.

9. An angel was talking with me. I asked him, 'Sir, what are these?' He answered, 'I will show you what they are.'

10. എന്നാല് കൊഴുന്തുകളുടെ ഇടയില് നിലക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന് ഇവര് ഭൂമിയില് ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവര് തന്നേ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Then the man who was standing among the myrtle trees said, 'They are the messengers the Lord has sent out. He told them to go all through the earth.'

11. അവര് കൊഴുന്തുകളുടെ ഇടയില് നിലക്കുന്ന യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞങ്ങള് ഭൂമിയില് ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു, സര്വ്വഭൂമിയും സ്വസ്ഥമായി വിശ്രമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

11. They brought a report to the angel of the Lord. He was standing among the myrtle trees. They said to him, 'We have gone all through the earth. We've found the whole world enjoying peace and rest.'

12. എന്നാറെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, ഈ എഴുപതു സംവത്സരം നീ ക്രൂദ്ധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന യെരൂശലേമിനോടും യെഹൂദാപട്ടണങ്ങളോടും നീ എത്രത്തോളം കരുണ കാണിക്കാതിരിക്കും എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

12. Then the angel of the Lord spoke up. He said, 'Lord, you rule over all. How long will you keep from showing your tender love to Jerusalem? How long will you keep it from the towns of Judah? You have been angry with them for 70 years.'

13. അതിന്നു യഹോവ എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ദൂതനോടു നല്ല വാക്കും ആശ്വാസകരമായ വാക്കും അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

13. So the Lord replied with kind and comforting words. He spoke them to the angel who talked with me.

14. എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ദൂതന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു പറയേണ്ടതെന്തെന്നാല്സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് യെരൂശലേമിന്നും സീയോന്നും വേണ്ടി മഹാ തീക്ഷണതയോടെ എരിയുന്നു.

14. Then the angel said, 'Announce this message. Say, 'The Lord who rules over all says, 'I am very jealous for my people in Jerusalem and Zion.

15. ഞാന് അല്പം മാത്രം കോപിച്ചിരിക്കെ അവര് അനര്ത്ഥത്തിന്നായി സഹായിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു സ്വൈരമായിരിക്കുന്ന ജാതികളോടു ഞാന് അത്യന്തം കോപിക്കുന്നു.

15. But I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I was only a little angry with my people. But the nations went too far and tried to wipe them out.'

16. അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് കരുണയോടെ യെരൂശലേമിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ ആലയം അതില് പണിയും; യെരൂശലേമിന്മേല് അളവുനൂല് പിടിക്കും എന്നു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

16. 'So the Lord says, 'I will return to Jerusalem. I will show its people my tender love. My temple will be rebuilt there. Workers will use a measuring line when they rebuild Jerusalem,' announces the Lord.

17. നീ ഇനിയും പ്രസംഗിച്ചു പറയേണ്ടതുസൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഎന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങള് ഇനിയും അഭിവൃദ്ധിഹേതുവായി വിശാലത പ്രാപിക്കും; യഹോവ ഇനിയും സീയോനെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കയും ഇനിയും യെരൂശലേമിനെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

17. ' 'He says, 'My towns will be filled with good things once more. I will comfort Zion. And I will choose Jerusalem again.' ' '
